[VIDEO] ETQW VOIP 2: This Gets Fun

ETQW VOIP 2: This Gets Fun

DivX @ Stage6 (higher quality 'recommended')
Youtube part 1 of 2 and Youtube part 2 of 2

This movie tells a fun story of a how a fireteam can help win a round on our TacticalGamer.com server.
As you watch this movie you will see that we are still beginners but we already know how to do VOIP teamwork.
This game is so much fun when you get fireteam VOIP going, its just takes someone with a mic to assume the role of fireteam leader.

I recorded the 1st person footage as I played with Guncam
and then recorded the 3rd person footage again with guncam off a client demo played back through Quake Wars Player
then edited the 1st person and 3rd person footage together in Sony Vegas

It was a fun round, Enjoy the video !

I was the one who went in the wrong APC right off the bat. I had a ton of fun playing this, it was my first time on this map and I would have been really lost without you guys. I think this vid really shows how a fireteam is immensely more useful than a bunch of people running around solo. Since playing more, I have realized how rare it is to have people working together this closely. A normal run of this map would have data carriers randomly going towards the room until chance had it that some other people were there to protect them at the right time. Is it possible to require joining a fireteam? That is probably just the battlefield in me talking, though.

I love the camera work on this Silver, very cinematic. Great job!

Great vid there, nice show of teamwork that I wouldn't mind experiencing once in awhile. I was kind of sceptical if fireteams were really of that much use compared to other squad setups in other games, like the aforementioned squads in bf, but this just goes to that they are indeed very useful and that the squad doesn't necessarily have to stick together the entire length of the map.

Also good to see the use of alternative routes being used. All to often I see teams lose simply due to the fact they keep charging head-on in one direction for the entire length of the map, making it very easy to defend against.

Great video...even better because I actually get to be in one for a change!

I tried FTL last night for the first time and always had to remember that the FT members couldn't spawn in on me so I didn't necessarily have to try so hard to stay alive. lol

The biggest factor in favor FTs I believe is being able to set a rally point and hit an objective together rather than just trickling in. This takes extra discipline from everyone since it seems "normal" for people to spawn in and then immediately want to run off to try to obtain the objective.

I wish they would make the FT members more obvious on the minimap though. Having some kind of small indicator whether those people are above or below you would also be helpful.

I think firetream members appear on mimimap as class icons, rather than generic ones.

As far as I can tell, whoever is shown in your mission list appears as class icons on the minimap. So if you are not in a FT, you see the others working on the same mission as you as class icons. In a FT, the other FT members are shown as class icons.

edit: played a round and realized that is not correct. When not part of a fireteam, people on the same mission show up with a white down arrow in the HUD (same as FT members), but do not appear in any special way on the minimap.

I enjoyed watching the vid, but OMG that was a bad defence on all 3 objectives.

A defence is very hard if you do not organize the team.

A good defence usually requires a lot of people to focus on the chokepoints in a map, but when the attackers keep coming in from a different direction the defensive team usually gets disorganized and chaotic. (with people calling each other names and only aggrivating the disorder)
In these situations we need our regulars and TG members to do the mature thing and help organize the defence, becouse breaking trough a random mob is defenitly not as much fun as breaking trough an organized defence by means of teamwork.

If you where talking about a map like Quarry then I would agree, but on Island a defence is very easy and it sets itself up. 3 objectives, 2 indoor that screams bloodbath, but in the vid they just walk into the 2nd objective and the first one was taken before the explosives on the door even blew ?!?
When something like that happens you have to seriously question the balance of the teams, because that is just lack of ETQW experience or skill (defenders) and this win has absolutly nothing to do with useing voip and/or advanced tactics.

I agree but it goes without saying that the use of VOIP certainly doesn't guarantee a win. I think the video does a fine job showing how coordination and enjoyment of the game can be improved with it as opposed to the usual spawn in and mindlessly rush the objective (sometimes alone) that you see so much of.

Re: [VIDEO] ETQW VOIP 2: This Gets Fun

I wanted to move into firteams in a big way, ie the VOIP way
That evening i had two games where the fireteam thing suddenly clicked
The game before that was slipgate and it was just Bernout and me talking
That second game they were 3 of us talking and in a way it helped me see how good firteams can be by there not being much of a defence because it allowed us to stick together better. On the second objective, i said in the video we moved faster them them, thats what happened. on the 3rd person playback i saw how outside they had put up 3-5 deployables while we were blowing the door. in retospect, i should have edited that into the video. I chose this video on one criteria only - rocking fireteam VOIP. and it does demonstrate that, shame the defence was light. But it shows you how I'm getting into my stride with fireteam leading and movie making. There are plenty more vids to come and over the series there will be something to impress everyone.
