Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

just learned you can go into siege mode in more than just the cyclops. you can do it in the desicrator as well. it will increase your rate of fire at the cost of mobility. you press the crouch key to engage siege mode.

I just read that on volcano and defending as GDF you can goto the central core area and shoot the drones coming in with shotgun or GMPG as they come out of the vents. Worth a try, so far volcano last objective always seems certain win for strogg.

two keys to that map are to kill the infiltrators out in the spawn area and get two gpmg guys with a medic and FO to supply ammo in that cage area just staring at the vents.

Mines around the vents also helps, as does being agressive and killing the infiltrators while they're busy piloting the drones. Even if they have backup, they can't retreat to avoid a well-placed grenade.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

There are almost always more then one way to go about getting to/completing an objective, even with the indoor objectives. All too often I see players just rush in one way over and over again on the basis that victory is based on repetition. After a couple of tries you find your team getting repeatedly annihilated go for a bit of a walk and see if you can't find another way to approach the problem. Just the other day the Strogg team were getting thrashed trying to get to the first objective of volcano. They had blown open all the entrances and were still dying by the dozen in or just around the objective. So I went walking around the island and its interiors and found several very interesting ways to get into the room. Even found an even more interesting way to get behind the GDF lines without seeing even one player. Maybe if I find some regulars on the TG server, that don't know about it, on the weekend I will disclose my information...hehehe.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

You can also intercept them with aircraft. I've seen someone get hit by a SSM in the tormenter, but it still blows the objective :/

If you use igoogle, check out the Quake Wars stats widget. It's way too big and is mostly useless, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

Just found this video on using grenades to kill the Icarus: http: //video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3409435915895939031

I read before about using grenades against those pesky things but did not quite grasp the concept. Now I know exactly what to do :-)

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

Using the jump key instead of forward to climb ladders allows to look in all directions (including straight down) while ascending.

To quickly get down a ladder use the crouch key - it causes you to slide instead of the normal climb down.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

Found two more interesting tips:

Crouching on a prone enemies back will prevent them from moving to the crouched or standing positions. Good for tormenting inattentive snipers/infiltrators you manage to sneak on from behind.

A person in a vehicle only receives the "Missile Lock On" warning once the missile has been fired - I wish I knew this earlier. I wondered how pilots knew just when to deploy their decoys when at times I kept my rocket launcher locked on their aircraft for a long time before firing the rocket.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

when shooting a teammate, the damage will show up as green around your cross hairs.
however, if that teammate is a spy, the damage will show up as red.

I was wondering what was going on there...

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

as strogg alt clicking a grenade makes it stick to wherever you throw it. as gdf, it rolls.

Re: Stuff i learned about ETQW today.

You can fly the desacrator over water as if was just ordinary ground. You can also strafe in it using the leaning buttons. You can use the 3rd eye like C4 in bf2142, it'll take out hogs, tormentors and the icarus in 1 shot, desacrator takes 2, while the cyclops takes too many to be practical. Also if you're running away from someone throw it out and when the person chasing you gets close enough detonate it, it has enough explosive range that it'll kill em even if they're several feet away.
