New Server Autokicks
The new setting you have set up for kicking anything above 22/24 is poor judgment IMO. This poses a problem if your playing with a friend cause its really hard to get them in. You have to wait for a disconnect, them tell them and hope no one else logs into that spot. It also temp-bans you for 2 minutes since you use punkbuster to execute this setting. After my friend getting temp banned for the second time. I just left and went else where. I really like your server; however, will not be returning until this is changed.

Re: New Server Autokicks
The 22/24 is done so that the supporting members of TG, i.e. those who actually pay the bills, are able to log in and play whenever they want.
It seems to me the solution to your problem is easy. Find another server to play on or have you and your friend become supporting members of TG.
Now, I'm not one of the admins or anything so this is purely my own opinion, but personally I think it takes a couple of brass ones to come here and ask for the server to be changed to suit your needs when you pay absolutely nothing for it. Of course it also costs you nothing to come here and ask. lol

Re: New Server Autokicks
Well, I'm sure I'm not the only one, but you can make it 2 private slots which allows you to do the same thing. It's just seems to be a really random way of curbing server population. It just puts a bad flavor on things when you see you just got banned from a server just for connecting when it has 22 people.

Re: New Server Autokicks
The script kicks the non supporting player that has been in longest, and only when a supporting member comes in, right now the reserved slot system that comes with ETQW does not serve our needs. This kind of script is being used on other games as whell and we are very happy with our current system

Re: New Server Autokicks
We realize that the autokick script makes it harder for non-supporting members to join when the server is at 22/24. While we are sorry for this inconvenience it is necessary for the TG community. Our supporting members ensure that we are able to keep the server up and running without them the server would not exist. The supporting members have to be our first priority in this case thus the reserved slot script. Until a better method of providing reserved slots for our members comes around this will be the solution.
As Bernout mentioned the easiest way to solve this would be to become a supporting member. There are many benefits to this including a reserved slot on most games TG supports.
The admin team welcomes suggestions from the community both supporting members and non-supporting members. All suggestions are examined and discussed. However, unless you can suggest a better way for us to provide reserved slots to our many supporting members, we will not change on this subject.Last edited by pedestrian01; 12-09-2007 at 08:39 AM.

Re: New Server Autokicks
Server rules state that you get kicked either to make a slot available for a supporting member if you are the longest playing non-supporting player or when joining on the last two slots. There is no randomness involved at all.
MOTD of the server clearly states it is full at 22/24 slots. So why you feel bad when connecting to the server which already has 22 players and get kicked/banned is totally beyond me.
While all ETQW players are welcome to play on the TG server it does not mean they will be guaranteed a slot on it. This privilege is reserved for the supporting members.Last edited by Exploding_Silver; 12-09-2007 at 11:18 AM. Reason: correct code so quote appears in dark grey

Re: New Server Autokicks
Pedestrian's response said It quite well.
I will take a stab at it. I fully understand your position here and empathize with you. I even feel a little guilty. I know the frustration that our reserved slot system can give to people that are not supporting members. I have been on the other side of the fence and been the one trying to get back into the game after getting removed for a SM, or not be able to click spam to join a server because it was full when it was not REALLY full. It is unfortunate that there is not a better way to provide a reserved slot to our supporting members. We have thought deeply about using the games built in reserved slot function but there are two problems with it.
1. The game provided private slot function is completely broken. It does not work at all in any capacity. The only way to reserve slots right now is to keep kicking people to keep those slots open. If those slots don't remain open, supporting members sit around like anyone else for a spot. This can take upwards of 40 mins on a typical night.
2. In the next patch or two, the game provided private slot function is supposed to be fixed. This will still not be good enough for us because the way it will work is that it will keep 2-4 private slots that you need a password for. These slots will NEVER get used unless they are used by supporting members. so our server would sit at 18 with 6 private slots - the max we are allowed to have. The problem now is that we have more supporting members on at any time than we have slots for. As we get more supporting members this will become an even larger problem.
I tested the slot system yesterday. I did not notice the 2 min temp ban. I will doublecheck that, I thought we had lowered it from the default of 2 mins to 0.
Hopefully you will consider playing here again. However, the reserved slot system will not be changed in the foreseeable future.

Re: New Server Autokicks
Have you lobbied the devs to provide a more useful private slot system? Sounds like they haven't really thought it through and some input from admins would be good. (Doesn't it suck that the people who run the servers are the last to be consulted when deciding how admin functions should work?)

Re: New Server Autokicks
I think we should consider going unranked.
In that way we can keep this one and get away with a 26 player server count. Also I really don't think it should kick the player with the most amount of time on the server.RX-78-2 Gundam EFSF Protoype Close Combat Mobile Suit Armor: Luna Titanium Armament: 2x Beam Sabers, 2x 60mm Head vulcan guns 380mm Hyper bazooka, Beam Rifle, Beam Javelin, Hyper Hammer, Gundam Hammer, shield

Re: New Server Autokicks
If we go unranked, the server will sit empty. People are stat whores.

If we kick the person who has been on the server the shortest amount of time, and its a new person, he/she may never come back. When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl and when you can't do that, you get someone to carry you.
