TacticalGamer ETQW internal scrim map choice
There is a time honored tradition at TacticalGamer of taking our games to the next level. We pride ourselves on the skilled execution of devastatingly effective tactics. Developing teamwork is only the first step toward that goal. We have a solid group of regulars; we have good pub play and are developing teamwork. Time to start working on tactics!
One of the things that attracted me to TG was the level of competition found in our frequent internal scrims. I have been gaming online since RTCW and have been in 5 or 6 great competitive clans over that time. We would work on map tactics, practice, and have amazing matches on a weekly basis. It was a demanding schedule. Then I had children…. I figured those ultracompetitive games were a thing of the past until I found TG and played in my first internal scrim. Many of us don’t have the time needed to compete week in and week out. Most games in TG have regular scrims. Sometimes these scrims are internal and we pick or assign teams. Sometimes they are against other communities or clans. Regardless, a great time can be had in a scrim. The map and gametype are set as the match is announced and sign ups are requested. The teams then get access to private forums to develop map tactics for their teams. There is usually a team leader that has final say in developing tactics. Expect us to have frequent internal scrims! The purpose of this post is to help plan our first internal scrim. I think we have enough active players to have an internal scrim. This scrim will be open to all TG members, but Supporting Members get first shot at the open slots. If there are still slots leftover after then non supporting members will be given a chance at those slots. Scrims are open to anyone regardless of skill. They are often a great opportunity to get to know your fellow gamers better and improve your game. I am looking forward to our first one. We will be holding most of them during euro friendly hours. What kind of gametype would you like to see in the scrim, and what maps/campaign? Most competitive games in ETQW happen in a game mode called stopwatch. In stopwatch you play one map twice, switching sides after you play it the first time. The team with the fasted time to complete wins. If both teams have a full defensive hold, the team that got the furthest along in the objective completion wins. This seems like the most obvious solution to a competition. It is one map, which reduces the difficulty in planning significantly. It is also very fair. There is no lopsided campaign issue. The other way we could go is campaign mode. I can’t think of any 3 maps we could put together that would be fair. If there is strong desire for a campaign mode scrim we will move forward in planning one. Otherwise, expect a stopwatch scrim. I am putting up a poll. What map do you want to play for our first scrim? Feel free to argue for a campaign mode scrim. You can check out all of the maps at this link: http://4newbies.planetwolfenstein.ga.../ETQW/maps.php http://www.gamespot.com/features/6180935/index.html You can only vote once!

I vote for campaign scrim, this would allow people to utilize the unlocks. Also have you thought about the scoring system for the scrim...example-completing the objective by time of just the completion or lack there of?

Quote:
If a full defensive hold takes place, then whoever completes the most objectives wins. IF both teams complete the same number of objectives we can call it a tie or try to establish other victory conditions such as distance MCP was moved. The major issue with campaign mode scrims is that one team is almost guarantied a loss. If enough want to try it, we can. Regardless, it will be fun. If unlocks are the issue, I can look into some server settings to see if I can set global unlocks.

Re: TacticalGamer ETQW internal scrim map choice
I'm definitely interested, and my map choice is Valley, since it's a solid map that people will be highly experienced with. Area 22 is my second choice. Will there be artificial restrictions on vehicles and other things?
I don't see why you couldn't play a campaign in stopwatch mode. You would play stopwatch mode on the first map of the campaign, then the second and third. It would take longer, but would be more interesting by featuring multiple maps. The gameplay in Quake Wars varies highly on the map choice, so playing a set of 3 maps would be more balanced.

Re: TacticalGamer ETQW internal scrim map choice
This is not a one shot deal. We will be holding these as regularly as we want. We could have a weekly scrim if there was enough interest and volunteers to help run it. A single map stopwatch can take close to an hour. add to that warmup time of 20-30 mins before match start.. With 3 maps, we are talking a 3 hour event with prematch organization.
Many of our members have a hard enough time explaining to their significant other and children that they need to use the computer for an hour or two of uninterrupted gaming. It is expected that teams develop map specific strats for most scrims. Detailed battle plans with pre defined fireteams and responsibilities are the norm here. The planning for even one map can be a time consuming process. In addition to that, there would be planning for 3 maps. I would rather people put in the thought to come up with a great plan for one map rather than a boring plan for 3 maps. for our first scrim, We don't want to bite off more than we can chew. I want this to be a sure fire success. We want clear victory conditions and a reasonable playtime of 1 hour. After that if people still have some time to play we can invade our public server for some more casual pub play. By the way, We will have our own privated unranked server to have events, practices and TacticalGamer university training sessions.

Re: TacticalGamer ETQW internal scrim map choice
awesome!! im in for this! yeah!
no1 likes canyon?? i love canyon... and refinery is awesome too valley is great aswell , i like the building bridge xD reminds me of Fueldump IMO: eww to salvage... something about it sucks... seems too small and i dont like the interior area. always such an intense stalemate at the interior, that seems alot worse than other maps. the strogg always seem to be to the bldg within 6-7 mins. then GDF stops them there. i voted for valley; cool map, i like the small-ness of the interior... i hate getting lost in those places ^^ |

Re: TacticalGamer ETQW internal scrim map choice
I think that it should be handled slowly. Let's see how the first one goes and then we can plan off that. We will learn a great numbers of things after the first scrim.
