Tonight was a TG night!

I've had some great games tonight on our server. The teams were closely matched and the result was intense fights that often lasted the whole 20 minutes. I enjoyed those matches even though I was ofter on the loosing side

Also, it was a pleasure to see many people wearing the TG tag on the server tonight, namely:

|TG| FriedCoD
|TG| Dismay
|TG| HarpDogg
|TG| WebbStar
|TG| Captain_Crunch
|TG| hotshot146

I also learned an important lesson tonight: when playing against FriedCoD and him playing a Field Ops role it is important to kill him from as long distance as possible. He likes to lock his Rocket Artillery on his position and then redirect it after launch. I killed him multiple times to discover to my sorrow that he obtained the initial lock before dying...

I do not play Field Ops/Oppressor roles very often but I will definitely remember this little trick. There is nothing more satisfying than a little parting gift to someone who just killed you, be it a cooked grenade, a just planted mine, or an entire salvo from your artillery!

Retargetting is much more effective with the Plasma Mortar. They both fire 6 rounds of about equal damage, but the plasma mortar has a much lower rate of fire. With rocket artillery, you can usually only kill 2 targets per volley because they fire too quickly, and most of the rockets are wasted on overkill. Once the target you lock onto is destroyed, the remaining rockets will circle in the air. At this point you can send them down anywhere you'd like, but that's the end of the barrage. Because of the slow-firing rate of the mortar, you can often kill 6 separate targets. Another reason why the mortar is much more effective is its high firing arc, which usually allows the mortar rounds to avoid any obstacles. Unless you're careful with the artillery placement and your target is out in the open, rocket artillery will often hit obstacles in the way due to its mostly-direct path. If you're targeting a spot on the ground, they'll fire in a high arc, but when locked on the path is fairly direct. The only advantage rocket artillery has over the mortar is that it can destroy a deployable or vehicle very quickly.

With the mortar, what I like to do is lock onto a deployable or vehicle, destroy it, and retarget the remaining rounds on infantry or other vehicles. It's very easy to kill several enemies in addition to your initial target. For RA I do the same, but can only retarget it once.

How do you retarget? Doesn't the targeting scope take too long to recharge?

After the initial lock on, a quick zap of the targeting laser will redirect the mortar anywhere you like. The recharge is only needed to get things started.

Aha, that should change some of my tactics a bit!

LOL!! xD

actually the reason i lock it on myself is so no1 spots my laser going across the battlefield.
cause it takes a long time to lock it.

and , i love rocket arty alot more than mortar, the time between shots is way too long.
although yeah, ive missed alotta kills because a watertower or something was in the way
had a 6x kill targeted once, but damn that quarry watertower

P.S. im #17 for rocket arty haha and im striving for #1 xD

Re: Tonight was a TG night!

With the redirection of fire support can you still redirect it if you lower your targeting laser then bringing it up again before the volley has finished firing? Just wondering because I think the targeting laser narrows your field of vision a bit.

Yes, you can.
