Why I have been MIA
Well last Sunday morning I had my wake up smoke then sat down at my computer and started some stretches to loosen up before a nice day of fragging. Then it all went bad real bad. On the first twist there was sharp pain in my back and a second later my whole torso was on fire. I have had the feeling before but did not want to believe that it happened again.
I had my wife call my PCP and got the on duty doctor. After telling the Doc what had happened she said it was a muscle spasm and to take some Advil and lay down with some heating pads. Muscle spasm, cool I could handle that, down for a few days and it would fix it's self.
By Tuesday I knew it was not a muscle spasm. But still did not want to face it. The last time was 5 years ago and I will never go to UCON medical center again. Wednesday was the tipping point when I passed out getting out of bed. Finally went into hospital Thursday morning. Spontaneous pneumothorax, collapsed lung, again, and since I waited so long, my (good) right lung had shifted and was pressing on my heart and the leaky left one was filling the cavity with air also pressing on my heart.
Right now I am in ICU at Hartford Hospital with a half inch chest tube and all the bells and whistles. They have me on oxycodone, riboxian(sp), gabapentin for pills and a dilaudin injection every 3 hrs plus a few I can not remember. They won't give me any sort of time line so I don't think it will be soon. One thing they are talking about is CT scan once the lung is up to see how many blebs there are and removing that section...
I am a non-smoker now. I can't even be around a lot of dust. Once I get out of here there is a 50% chance a coughing fit will pop a bleb again. here is a wiki to all the details.

Re: Why I have been MIA
Aw man...sorry to hear it. I've suffered from spontaneous pneumothorax several times. I know how not fun it is. In fact, I can't imagine a pain I've ever experienced worse than that. Hope you recover well man. I know how scary it can be.

Re: Why I have been MIA
They went in and were going to do it lapascopy with small holes but things did not work out that way. The surgeon nicked an artery and had to open me up to fix it. that was yesterday. I just had an epidermal and am able to sit up now. The blebs on the left lung are closed an the lung is holding but now I have 2 chess tubes.
Thanks for the well wishes. It means alot sitting in here

Re: Why I have been MIA
Im very sorry to hear about your medical problems and am glad you seem to be doing better, but offering links to "scare" smokers, why? all smoker s (including myself) are aware of the dangers of smoking and continue to do so. We have to be aware that there are risks associated with any activity.i mean my grandmother is 85 and started smoking when she was a teenager. and will probably outlive all of us. Now i know people are going to respond to this and rip me a new one. Iim NOT trying to trivialize this serious medical situation and the obvious pain it has brought to you and you family, but it is an adults right and duty to make up there own mind without the influence of "scare" tactics.
P.S. Get/stay better
