Wow look at that! 2 posts in 30 minutes...and yes I'm just bored at the moment.
Anyway moving on, I know the whole fireteam/squad play hasn't really worked with this game and it got me to wondering why this is exactly. To be honest when I picked up this game I was hoping for some squad play like I've seen in Silver's videos, but I have yet to see that. All I see are people suiciding on the objective, and while that is fun in itself most of the time it's not really what I was looking for.
As to the reason I think fireteams don't work when compared to squads as in the BF series I came to the conclusion that in the BF series you have multiple objectives (i.e. capturing multiple flags and such) spread across the map whereas in ET:QW there is only 1 real objective where all the action is funneled into. So with this game you can get away without using squads as everyone's heading in the same direction anyway. Not only that it's a lot harder to keep fireteams together as you can't spawn in on the fireteam leader as you could in the BF series.
So I thought I'd experiment with using squads for things other then going for the objective, so if you ever see me online (if I'm on the
TG server I'm most probably the one with the highest ping) I'll be running fireteams that will be based around specific goals. Not to say that I'll be doing just those throughout the entire campaign, I'll change it up so that the goals work with the rest of the team.
The squads main goal will be given with the fireteam name. Just to throw out some ideas/examples:
-Objective! - Should be obvious, fireteam made for going after/defending the objective, will be made of medics and whatever class is necessary for the current objective.
-Support! - Nothing but medics and maybe a soldier or two packing rockets, gpmg, or assault rifle. Medics heal and soldier gives cover fire or take out annoying deployables/armour.
-S&D! - Search and destroy. Made up of at least 1 rocket soldier, 1 field ops, and 1 medic. Main goal is to be offensive and destroy enemy deployables and to clean out any areas where enemies have dug in.
-Armour! - I.E. the vehicle whore

. Engineers and a medic or two. If there is a bumblebee on the stage and playing GDF then maybe one or two rocket soldiers.
-Spawn! - Made up of mostly medics and maybe 1 engineer for their mines. Used when you're on the defensive, the main purpose of this fireteam is to capture and keep the enemies forward spawn.
-Sniper! - 1 sniper and 1 field ops with scoped assault rifle. Small team that finds high/advantageous ground and gives long range support. Main goal is to take out other snipers & enemy field ops (snipers main role) and to bombard enemy positions (field ops role). Can take pot shots if there aren't any targets to take out.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Truth be told haven't really got this to work yet as you would need people who listen to orders and not just go and kill themselves getting the objective.
NOTE: These fireteams will probably only work on maps where one side (usually the offensive side) is having trouble completing the objectives. If your team is just steam rolling through the objectives there probably won't be much use in having these fireteams.
NOTE #2: This will be my first time acting as a sort of squad leader, back when there were more vets playing this and on the rare occasion that I played with them I'd usually leave it up to them to lead. So be easy on me and give me some pointers if you see me not doing something right. Thanks in advance.
Whew long post...must have been more bored then I thought I was.
