Re: Quake Wars info
Graphics look pretty sweet. Anyone else see the E3 coverage / video interviews? I am not sure what to think of this game. From the interview I saw, it seemed like they intend to force you into teamwork by assiging each person an objective; I destroy the power generator, you take down the shields, another player attacks a gun turret (I just made all of those objectives up right now, but it was something like that).
I am not sure if that sounds good or bad...but we won't know until the game is out. I like useless speculation! I really don't mean to get down on this game either; I am stoked to see how it turns out and will be getting it for the eye-candy at the least! I was very interested in what the developers had to say about thier texturing methods; something about having high quality textures viewable from extremely long ranges. Re: Quake Wars info
I hope they keep it similar to wolf:et in certain ways, if they use that formula with added elements and of course the graphics, the game should spin off very well.

I think it will most play similiar to ET. It seems to be alittle slower then ET from the movies.

Re: Quake Wars info
For some reason Wolf:ET totally passed me by. I think I was playing Planetside when that came out.

Re: Quake Wars info
Tybalt, You should download it and give it a whirl, its about 300mb and completly free still. It does actually look a bit slower paced than regular wolf:et, but damn I can't wait. I may have to reinstall wolf:et to and give it another whirl, been 2years for me, I use to play 6hr sessions with mantis. Yes he was just as good at that game to.

Re: Quake Wars info
I missed out on the ET craze too, and by the time I started playing most of the servers were empty and it was a bit confusing. I ran around setting people on fire, though. That was tons of fun.

Re: Quake Wars info
^^^To this day I sitll don't know which one I like better. Vanilla RTCW or RTCW:ET,
For those that don't know ET was orginally an expansion pack for Return to Castle Wolfenstien. It was being developed by Splash Damage and was going to add new weapons, new maps, a new class for online multiplayer, fire teams, and a new SP campaign. However during the course of development the SP mode wasn't working out as well as they hoped. They wanted to introduce a squad to RTCW and basically have the SP campaign be online MP with bots. They never got the AI to work as well as they hoped so they scraped it and released the MP part as a stand alone expansion.
The differences between ET and vanilla are some weapons were added others were removed, a few weapon balance changes, (tommy gun and MP40 are the same gun) new maps, a Covert Ops class, and new sound effects and voices.
I love the new maps, (at the time) the new weapons they added, and the Covert Ops class. However the new sound effects and voices well sucked (old voices sounded alot better and in the case of the sound effects I was used to the vanilla ones) also I didn't care much for the rebalance of the MP40 and tommy gun.
I noticed something the assualt rifle used by the soldier class look like an earlier version of the machine gun from Doom 3.RX-78-2 Gundam EFSF Protoype Close Combat Mobile Suit Armor: Luna Titanium Armament: 2x Beam Sabers, 2x 60mm Head vulcan guns 380mm Hyper bazooka, Beam Rifle, Beam Javelin, Hyper Hammer, Gundam Hammer, shield

Re: Quake Wars info
I just loved playing through all the rounds and gaining XP along the way. Highest XP I got was like 2500 or so. I used medic quite a bit. I loved using dual pistols though, just looked like the shiznit.

Re: Quake Wars info
I recall a video interview where I think one of the developers mentioned you could accumulate exp for 3 maps then you get reset. I'll see if I can find that interview somewhere.
EDIT: Ok, it was the gamespy interview for quake wars. The two developers talk about the reward systems roughly half way through the interview. They mention the rewards that affect gameplay lasts for the 3 or 4 mission campaign. The persistent long term rewards don't affect gameplay and only reflect status. I'm guessing persistent rewards will be something like rank or medals.
