Re: Quake Wars info

They seem pretty straightforward. Can't wait for this game though.

Re: Quake Wars info

Darn, you beat me to it. I've been slacking in my constant search for Quake Wars info by playing Oblivion all day. Like Tycho said, the classes look pretty straigtforward. It'll be nice to be able to have a little choice between weapons in the same class. It seems like the 'Soldier' and 'Agressor' classes might be a little too powerful, but I guess there will be lots of turrets and arty like weapons to keep them at bay (and vehicles too).

Re: Quake Wars info

I really don't like how the two sides are nearly mirrored. I was expecting a completely different style of game play on the strogg side.

Look at Warcraft/Starcraft. Different, but balanced.

Anyone play Total Annihilation: Kingdoms? Those four races were vastly different, and yet balanced. I'd like to see that type of creativity in unit/class type to come to a good FPS game.

Re: Quake Wars info

Or look at Natural Selection. Completely and utterly different sides. Or Savage: Battle for Newerth.

Hmm, I played alot of et, everything was pretty mirrored. axis had a medic, and so do allies. axis has a support, and so did the allies.

Re: Quake Wars info

Tribes 2 had a similar gametype called "Siege" that was a lot of fun, and similarly "unbalanced". One plays until either the attackers win their objective or until a timer runs out. The players switch sides and then the new attackers must beat the time of the other team to acquire the objective. Alas, most Tribers didn't understand it, so the population that played it was relatively small.

Tribes 2 also had a gametype called "capture and hold" which was essentially the same as Battlefield's Conquest, but the score was based on the time a flag was held instead of the number of tickets remaining. The first team to achieve a certain aggregate time target won. It never got popular, and I think it was because most people didn't understand the scoring.
