Ha ha, almost anything is slower than w:et!

Maybe not Unreal Tournament, but they're close.

The lack of built in VOIP is a bit of a bummer for me. I think it really facilitates communication in the BF games...

I'll watch FP and try to get a key to give it a try regardless...

Damn, yea It needs voip these days. Should we make a ET Channel for the beta? Would help quite a bit, I'm still overwhelmed as what to do right now. Mainly just sniping.

I've been doing a little reading on the QW Community forums and it sounds like it may be a bit fast-paced for me. I think Project Reality has spoiled me.

Played one game on 'sewer' map
    • it looks fantastic and was smooth visually, superior to 2142 easily
    • sound was high standard
    • you can create or join squads and there are markers over friendlies heads that show your squad and these marker can be seen through walls
    • no voip as mentioned
    • it was all a bit of a frag fest, but its the first night, felt like deathmatch !
    • there is meaning in the different roles with different tasks and way of helping the team eg there is one class that can repair fallen strogg and get them in the fight again, medic like, but its not instant zap of BF
    • you can fire when bunny hopping
    • squads with VOIP would own this game

There is none. Several people have posted videos and SSs on the official ETQW forums and employees from Splash Damage have commented on the video, nothing negative or saying it's against NDA.

Just in case people didn't know, you can get keys from some of the big fan sites too. There is currently a competition over at QuakeWarsCenter.com where they are giving away an unspecified number of keys for funny answers to the question "What three things won’t get done on the day you finally get Enemy Territory: Quake Wars?” I figured it was worth a shot since I don't have a FP subscription.

    Re: Beta Discussion

I think to help us learn the game we may want to all meet on Teamspeak as someone may have already mentioned.

Some thoughts based on playing three or four rounds:

-Very sharp impressive graphics. Man, you can really see quite a distance. I sorted of got a headache from the detail and sharpness of the graphics combined with the speed of your character. It will take alittle to get used too.

-The game is fast or faster than other MP's I've played. That can be good or bad depending on your play style. Having tons of hours in the Battlefield series I'll make the inevitable comparsion between the two.

It's going to take alittle more gameplay to get the feel of the game and it's pros and cons.

Having a TG squad playing will make it a different game for sure.

I have looked over several forums and have checked some ingame videos and it looks like a bunnyhop-heaven-spray-that-gun-without-aiming game... Not realistic at all.. Disappoints me alot to be honest. Interested in hearing your reports, though.

Yep, lots of hopping. That's the way it is though, unless they change it where you cannot fire and shoot at the same time.

The only complaint I have is I need voip.

    A Word About In-Game Ads
Submitted by Relaxer on Tue, 2007-06-19 13:10.

Hi, I'm Neil Postlethwaite, Splash Damage's Managing Director and one of the Producers on Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. I'd like to talk to you today about the in-game advertising we have in ETQW.

For the last four years, we've put all of our effort into making Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. So, we're not planning to ship this game and walk away. We want to keep supporting ETQW in as many ways as possible. We'll be maintaining the persistent stats servers and the community site, and continuing to support ETQW with updates and improvements.

To help cover this level of on-going support without passing the costs on to the gamer, ETQW will feature appropriate advertisements in select locations of our levels. The ads aren't intrusive and you won't have to interact with them; they'll just be part of the normal environment. In fact, there are some places it's quite odd not to have an advertisement - the sides of container trucks, for example. Great care is being taken to ensure that all our ads are appropriate for the game world and we have absolute approval rights in this area. If it's not appropriate or it's distracting, it won't go in.

The company providing the ad system does not and will not store any personal information or data that otherwise can be used to identify you. All they track is if and how long you look at the advertisements.

For those of you participating in the upcoming beta, you will get a chance to see them for yourself very soon. And of course we will be releasing a demo prior to the retail launch of the game so everyone can check them out first.

Choosing to place ads in Enemy Territory was not a decision we made lightly. However, in doing so we hope to be able to provide a higher level of on-going support to the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars community than would have been possible otherwise.
