Re: Beta Discussion

Unfortunately I can't find a quote on that. I only heard it on this post I made about VOIP and even then the next post after it mentioned that we won't be getting VOIP because there are "better alternatives on the PC".

Plays just like it.

Show me an alternative that automatically connects to the VOIP server corresponding to the game server you are joining, automatically assigns you to a channel based on your current team, automatically manages communication between your entire team and your fire team, and automatically downloads and installs its self and ill buy that bs.

They cant be serious. The ONLY reason teamspeak or ventrillo would be better alternatives for any game would be if the VOIP is nonexistant(ding! ding! ding!) or is of poor quality.

3rd party VOIP programs certainly have their place, but not as a substitute for integrated solutions on a pub server.

I guess we'll see how long it takes them to add it with a patch. Hopefully they wont pull a Valve and ignore it for 3 years.

Ha. Kormendi hit the nail on the head. In game VOIP is way easier to use than Teamspeak or Ventrillo (and therefore, much more likely to actually be used). Most people probably aren't going to take the time to install a voip client, find the voip server for the etqw server they're on, and then find the appropriate channel for their team or firesquad. If I was regularly playing on different servers I wouldn't.

Re: Beta Discussion

From some of the comments I've seen I'm not going in with high expectations but I should at least actually play it before making a purchasing decision.

I've got a P4 2.66Ghz, 1GB RAM, 7800GS 256MB. Will it even be playable?

The Doom3 engine is like Halflife2 engine, it runs pretty well. Of course you may have to lower the settings the medium, but it should be playable and look decent. I ram Doom3 on medium settings on a 2.6 p4, 512mb of ram, and a 5600fx 3 years ago. heh

'Bout freaking time! I haven't had anything to do all week... so yesterday... I... I... *gulp* installed Project Reality. Actually, it was really good. Really hard since I don't know the maps or have a very coordinated squad (they were all almost as confused as me). The huge maps didn't help either. Most of the game was spent asking were the heck am I supposed to be, and how am I going to get all the way over there without getting shot?!? Anyway it was pretty fun, but I'm looking forward to some QW anyway. "Crap, there's another tank coming! DUCK!"

Only 1h, 12m, 43s I don't know why I'm counting down. It'll probably be a few minutes late, but I've got Firefox set to refresh the key distribution page every 30 seconds anyway.

I noticed . It keeps giving me an error when trying to sign up.

Edit:
Anyone else getting the "Invalid Code" crap over and over again after agreeing to the license?

Re: Beta Discussion

got my key just try signing up, then pressing back when it gives you the error, then hit sign up again. I had three tabs running it, finially got one through.

Still one problem though, you can only download the file if you are a subscriber. My guess they have not switched it over, that is FP just became more evil. Give away the keys to all, but you need to subscribe to download.

Lol, that would be the most evil thing ever.
Luckily, I've had my the actual beta files since Tuesday. Uhh, I mean... oh darn... I can't download it either... grr... FilePlanet... you suck so much...

b........i.........t.........t...........o........ r.........r........e......n......t

Strange, it gives me the stupid code on the first try in IE but refuses to give me it at all in Firefox even with adblock and anything else that might interfere turned off.

Finally. Dang that took forever.

Word is they are working on that... "<[b]adman> the file is correctly flagged for non-subs, but the change is still propagating across their mirrors. also, don't hit the page too many times or your IP will be whitelisted for 24 hours"
