Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

Cool, I never felt like trying the beta, but I might check this demo out.

Coming from a BF2 only man (BF2142 demo did nothing for me), I've got to say I like it. I've no idea what I'm supposed to do yet, but it's got something about it.

Playing this on a teamwork server could be very good indeed...

I found the demo enjoyable. I just concentrated on learning the Strogg Constructor and started ranking up after learning how to use mines and deployables. Great graphics with some huge maps. Real indoors are a nice addition. I'm sure it would be even better playing with fellow TGers.

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

I got to mess around for a few rounds last night. It was entertaining. And confusing, having read no documentation whatsoever. I did like the ability to choose "missions" (more like short term objectives). I too mostly played Strogg constructor role, since my twitch skillz are ****e and I had more success building and repairing things while I learned.

We should at least set up a TS channel set up so those trying out the demo can play together on the same server. If I get home tonight and don't see one already, I'll go ahead and create one.

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

well, weve been using the ET beta channel...even if we dont get a server, we can at least try to all get together...ill be on tonight.

It is a bit confusing, and i was totally lost when i first started, but the more you play, the more you learn and the more fun it gets. If you didnt see it in another thread, this is a great spot to start for newbies -

What's the ET beta channel? Is that the friends/clan tab in the server browser?

Wow - I didn't even know this supported fireteams and FT objectives. Suffice it to say on the server I was on last night there was no semblance of teamwork or tactics.

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

The ET beta channel is on our TeamSpeak.

I finished a three round and obtained level 19 by the end just playing constructor. I would hang back on the second line and setup waiting for the inevitable time when the GDF would push through. If we fell back to the shield generator, I would just hang back and defend that. I pretty much avoided being on the frontline. Just by doing those objectives and repairing, I was racking up XP and top score like crazy. It's nice to see the appreciation for repairing that you never saw in the Battlefield series. The focus is no longer on only killing the most. That's a most welcome change in my book.

It's why it owns 2142.

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

Been trying out this demo for several days, I've done Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory in the past and it has those similar moments of horrendous fire being directed at a spawn location, over and over....and over again. The only thing missing is close quarter flame thrower spam. Having the TS channel was helpful to force through objectives as a unit. I had to turn my game volume way down though, I couldn't hear anyone over all the explosions and carnage being done to me.

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

Hmm, after playing last night with Tybalt and Ultrablue I think the game is better than my initial judgment (if you look above).

The game has some preaty good teamwork and balance aspects. Although the balance is a bit tricky (when I played) since your team has to balance out responsibilities in order not to get dominated.

Still the infantry gunning seems flaky to me and the fact that vehicles can be damaged significantly by rifles confuzzles me (one clip of the assault rifle brings the Strogg flying thingy down a quarter of health).

Re: We have a demo. I say again demo.

I really enjoyed the original ET and this one so far is looking good. Nice to see a TG test server up, I'll definitely check it out later today.

What I don't understand is how, to this day, developers/publishers feel it is acceptable to release a demo to a game like this without a tutorial. This isn't a standard deathmatch FPS that anyone can pick up and run with. I sure hope the full version has one, for the sake of garnering new players.

I mention this because a few of my less patient friends who had not played the original ET gave up on it and declared the game "crap" when they clearly did not even scratch the surface of the gameplay.
