As a weapon, yes. Of course it would be an exception.

See, I try not to have to get overly detailed with the rules. I'd rather people try and play to the spirit of TG than need a 27 page rulebook to figure it out.

Had a great time while the server was pretty full.. Then the population went down and it got ugly real quick.

Now that I jumped in feet first, I guess I should go read the manual so I know what is going on

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

I agree, we'll just use the general rules for now, and once we get the game nailed, we'll start tweaking to our liking, its arcadey, but the game offers alot of potential with tactics and teamwork. A lonewolf will not win the game here, in fact, in order to progress, you may need an engineer for the objective. So everyone must work together.

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

I got in very shortly, I'm playing thru steam and it's ok... I just don't feel that weight that I do in 2142. No VOIP meant I had a horrible time adjusting and learning the controls. The game also wigged out on me way too much... I don't know, I could use some help but it's pretty hard without VOIP

It should be a lot better once we get people working together on teamspeak. Kind of disappointed the game lacks built in VOIP. The text chat system doesn't seem too useful, although I haven't tried the fireteam one yet.

VOIP may be added to the full version in a future patch.

Yeah - I haven't found the radial Fireteam menu yet. The online manual lists it as 'mouse3' but that just brings up the standard "voice" menu for me, even as a FT leader. But using our Teamspeak server for team based VOIP is a decent enough workaround for now.

We had some fun last night on the TG server with about 15-20 people on. It seems that in low pop games it's easier for the GDF to push through, but the Strogg did have a solid stand toward the end of the night.

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

The fireteam button is like numberpad enter or numberpad zero.... one of those.

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

Cool. The Numpad - Enter brings up the basic FT menu, but not the radial menu for setting waypoints and giving orders. I'll try the numpad 0, see if I can rebind that to something more convenient.

Oh, the person who made the fireteam can select an available mission with the 'm' key which will update the mission waypoint for the whole squad, if that's what you are referring to.

I was there as well asking fun questions like "how do I switch seats in vehicles" and "whats the point of fire teams?" (which I still don't really know).

I read through the online manual today and now have a much better grasp of whats going on.

I came away impressed with the game. Probably because we had teamwork, comms, and Beatnik answering my stupid questions.

First impressions are that the game offers more depth than BF2142, has more focused gameplay, but fails at the squad aspect. Very solid and polished though, moreso than BF.

There are some weird technical issues with the game though, mostly about the framerate and physics running at different speeds. Also, has anyone figured out how to get more than 30fps in a local, singleplayer game?

Yeah there's a different "radial" menu that's like the 'T' menu in BF2 (and I assume 2142) that lets you quickly set different fireteam objectives. Sounds like it is 'v'. I'll doublecheck later to confirm.

Totally agree. I really like objective-based play as opposed to tickets-based play or stats-based/ranked play (mostly because I've got craptacular twitch skills). I do wish the minimap was more informative. It's hard for me to tell FT members apart from team members, not obvious what to do with certain objectives, less than intuitive to set FT objectives so far, but the assymetrical teams and objective-based AAS-style progressive gameplay with gradual XP ranking over the course of a few games works well. I'd really like to see 32 TGers who know what they're doing on the server to see what kind of tactical possibilities open up, but so far I like it.

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

you can actually very easily tell your FT members apart just from looking at your HUD. Instead of the generic green triangle over their head, your FT members have a big green circle with a symbol telling you which class they are (cross for medic, binocs for field ops, wrench for engy, explosives for assault, and crosshairs for covert ops). Quite easy to just look around and see where everyone is, specially if you need ammo or a medic. Also, if youre a medic, a quick glance at the top left of the screen will show you all the names of your FT and their health condition (green=ok, orange=needs meds, red=needs meds NOW)

its also very easy to set your objective as a fireteam. All the FT leader has to do is hit "m" to cycle through available missions. Once the mission you want is set, that objective appears in your FT's HUD. You can also set waypoints by looking at a spot and hit "v" (radial menu) and click.

Re: Any chance for a TG server?

Not sure how tactical it will be. The game tends to not be very team oriented in terms of cohesion. Everytime I play it is more like a bunch of individuals doing their own things that are somewhat helpful to the overall objective.
