    ETQW Window Minimizer

access the console <ctrl-ALT-~> and input "seta com_useFastVidRestart 1"

You should now be able to ALT-TAB while in game by doing the following:
<ALT-ENTER> makes the game go into a window mode, then you can <ALT-TAB> or windows key to get to another program or your windows start menu.

You can set this permanently in your config file. This is the only method of window minimizing that has been shown to not crash your game.

the rest of this thread can now be ignored.

Yeah, I never understood the doom/quake engine for not having alt-tab build it. I used to use this app for the old et quite a bit. Thanks for the link.

This should be very helpfull, since there won't be VOIP support until a possible future patch, this will allow everyone to mess around with teamspeak settings etc without having to quit out of the game. Thank you!

I bet they block alt-tab so they will not have to answer support emails/calls about QW crashing when alt-tabing out.
When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl and when you can't do that, you get someone to carry you.

I use a program called Batch launcher that runs both programs with one (double)click.
You can download the program at:
    http://www.vicman.net/dir/12519/Down...h-Launcher.htm
After you install the program run it and you should see a screen like

Right click in the white space on the left and select "Add Batch"

Name it whatever you want. Now it's time to add programs to our batch.
Right Click in the right whitespace and click "Add application"

This will bring a browse window up. Navigate to the minimizer.exe program and select it. Then repeat this and add etqw.exe.

Now right click on your batch application and click "Make Shortcut"

This places a shortcut on your desktop. Now all you have to do is double click on this shortcut and it will launch the minimizer first then launch Quakewars.

    This isn't necessary at all.

Enter "seta com_allowfastvidrestart 1" in the console

Then use alt+enter followed by alt+tab to minimize. It's an extra keystroke combo, but the game minimizes and unminizers very quickly and without problems. Much faster than Source, for example, and it won't mess up shaders if you do it while loading a map.

Did you hit alt-tab? You need to alt-tab away from the app once it is non-maximized in order to return the mouse pointer to the OS' control.

Curlydave's method worked for me except I had to use "seta com_useFastVidRestart 1" - "use" instead of "allow".

Once you open the console with ctrl-alt-~, you can also do "seta com_allowConsole 1", which will allow you to open the console with just ~

Error on my part. That's probably why it didn't work for Science.
