Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
I'm finding that although it's less rigidly-structured than BF2/BF2142, the objectives in the game all concentrate each team into general locations. Consequentially, you're always fighting with your teammates towards a common goal.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
Are people looking at fireteams because it reminds them of the similar squad grouping.
My understanding is that reinfircements spawn in waves and in general move up together, so that is a squad like thing. While a fireteam can all get split up as people die and rejoin in different waves. I haven't played enough to say if this is so, can you put me in the picture. Thx

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
battlefild is a very differnt game. on the surface, the two games seem simmilar, but that simmilarity is only skin deep. they both have guns, vehicles and large maps.
BFx is a team game, so is ETQW. BFx divides a team into squads, ETQW divides a team into spawn waves. Both games can have fireteams. In Bfx, I sometimes divide my 6 person squad into 2 fireteams when I want to take a flag. I will have a fireteam stay back and provide covering fire while the other fireteam moves onto the flag.
in ETQW fireteams can sometimes serve the same purpose. you can set a mission for fireteams, and simmilar to bf2142 you can gain xp when your entire fireteam does something useful.
say for example you create a fireteam called medics. then you can focus on supporting a fireteam named objective.
rumor has it when VOIP is implemented it will be VOIP at the team level, rather than the fireteam level.
In practice, fireteams are used by clanmates and freinds that want to keep track of eachother.
In Wolf:ET for example, all the good players on a team tended to get into a fireteam and work together where the rest of the team was made up of random pubbies.
How we use fireteams at TG remains to be seen.

Thanks for the post Sc1ence. Looking at the game right now, probably going to try the demo and see how it feels.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
Got the game and have been playing it a lot more. I think there is a lot of potential in it for very strong teamwork and teamplay. I also think that a well coordinated team has a huge advantage on both offense and defense.
That being said, lack of VoIP is huge. Looking forward to playing on TG with teamspeak.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
I played the beta for a couple of weeks and wasn't blown away, so I wasn't planning a purchase. But ET:QW came bundled with my new vid card so I guess I'll be joining you guys. Playing on a TG server will likely be a better experience than the beta.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
I DL'ed the demo, but no VOIP or squad structure has me not terribly exited about it.
I've already played those games where it's just a big disorganized madhouse, while it can be fun at times, I think the squad structure is the way to go.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
You made ETQW sound very interesting, the games sounds very battle-drama, and non-stop action. Sadly for me the demo I downloaded doesn't work so I never got a chance to play it, as much as I love battlefield, and I love battlefield I def. gotta try this game.

Yeah, the game is awesome, the demo, while good, just doesn't show off all the opportunities the different maps give you.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
Thanks once again to this community for sucking me into another game. My experience so far has been a lot like my battlefield experience. I die way to much and cannot shoot anything.
I am having a blast trying to figure everything out. So far the community has been great, just wish VOIP would hurry up and get here.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
My first exposure to this game type was the "Siege" type in Tribes 2, and I was instantly addicted. The next game I saw that had this was BF1942's Special Weapons addon, which included "Objective Mode". Now we have a game dedicated to this style and it pulled me out of WoW.

Re: For Battlefield players interested in ETQW
"Cure" is perhaps too strong a word. For example, Bayer marketed Heroin as a "cure" to treat morphine addiction. (How many know that "Heroin is a Bayer trademark?)
