I'm trying to trouble shoot my ping and it seems as though people on the West coast have better pings than mine.

I have done trace route and I have found 2 routers that are causing a problem but I'm not sure.

So if you could put down your ping, your town or major nearby city and a to server (2142) I can make a map of pings to the server. I will then look for additional or faster routes or possibly a new ISP.

Example
JumpBackJack 125ms, Grass Valley,Ca. TG 2142

But, the really strange part is that I can view a couple of awards, but not them all. I thought maybe it was a problem with NS but some of the awards it crashes on are from the vanilla version of the game.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to do a complete reinstall but I was hoping one of our resident digital Jedi could help me out before I resorted to that.

Any thoughts why the game would be fine for awhile and then it tabs out to the desktop and crashes. It has done this 4 times already and there was no problem this morning I updated a newer version of AVG anti-virus (9.0). Could that be the problem?
Oh ya, that day when it started to crash, i came home from school and i opened my computer and the strangest thing happened. i pressed the on button and the computer turned on but not my monitor. it wouldnt connect, it just kept saying no signal. Then i took the VGA cable out from my VGA card and connected it to the mother boards vga slot thing and it worked. (i did this with my computer still on btw) i closed my computer and then switched it back and everything was fine again. Dont know if this helps but thats all the info i can think of.

Any questions? ask!
Please help me and thanks in advance! :]

Just picked up a new headset on the weekend to replace the setup used for the past 6 months(old crappy sony pair of headphones from around the discman era combined with a mic from an old headset that died.)

Though I don't look as cool now, what with not having 2 pairs of headphones - one for sound one for working mic- on while gaming, thats okay and well worth the sound quality upgrade :)

Sennheiser PC-161 at NCIX After a solid morning of research & pricing, found these which were on sale for $80 (CAD), usually $99.

Highres pic

Sound 5/5
Mic 5/5
Comfort 4/5 - though this could change once they break in- right now a bit tight
Quality 5/5
Sound isolation 5/5 - having the tv on levels that would usually annoy me while gaming doesn't matter anymore - likewise in all my in-game tests nobody could hear my TV or anything outside about 1 ft of me.
Value 5/5 *at sale price

I don't know what my expectations really were, but the sound quality upgrade is huge. Hearing things in bf2142 is a completely different experience in so many forms of awesomeness. There are tons of new notes in the songs I had never even heard before, mostly in the bass frequency range but even the highs as well. Having a headset that's a bit bigger like this makes all the bassnotes really sound wonderful, and that includes far off armor shots in big maps.

Played on highest audio setting with an X-FI extreme its just beautiful. All the little things just sound so much nicer and crisper, especially all the wonderful voices of teamspeak and in-game voice :) Definitely reccommend this pair if you are looking to upgrade/replace/switch from speakers.

My budget for the upgrade was initially 30-50, or around what I'd paid for the last few sets that broke within 1-2yrs each. So this time decided to up it to between 50-100, making an exception if there was a good price point.

When I installed 2142 in win7 about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that my keystroke mouse button assignments would not work in game, but worked just fine during normal computer use. (ie. Surfing the web, using Word...) Just recently I have discovered that my key binding for teamspeak ('c', if it matters) is not registering while I'm in game. I have been talking to myself for 2 weeks...

Anyway, Its seems to me that Battlefield is "hogging" all the keyboard input while its running. In other words, it is not allowing the keyboard input to get to other programs that are running. (Setpoint for my mouse, and teamspeak for its push to talk).

Can anyone help me out with this? I have done some digging, but have come up empty handed. Any aid, or thoughts, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Any idea what could be the reason? I am not happy with W7 right now. Things were quite smooth with Vista 32.

Hi all,

Have a weird issue with my mic settings. I am not sure when it started occurring (maybe nobody informed me until recently and just put up with my low volumes?), but the windows settings are not sticking when I go to sound panel -> adjust settings for recording. When I manually set this to recording, my mic just magically boosts itself in-game. I have tested this by alt-tabbing, setting it, coming back in game and my squadmates confirmed I am louder.

How can I get this setting to stay after restarting my PC, as I always forget before launching the game? I am pretty sure it used to do that.

Specs: running XP 32 bit, soundblaster x-fi soundcard, all in game settings maxed out for volume.

I realize there are tips here for the 2142 shortcut optimization, as well as TS shortcuts, and probably some thread somewhere about removing the movies. But they are all in different places and it took me some time to finally get my 2142 launch down to a tee so I thought I'd share the results of my troubleshooting and the entire setup that I have going now.

1) The bf2142 movies can most easily be disabled by renaming the folder - most other threads will tell you to rename each file.

simply rename yourgamedir\mods\bf2142\Movies\ to "Movies1" or something else.

2) The bf2142 shortcut can be set up to launch with special parameters, I won't go into that much detail as it's stickied, but here's mine:

bf2142.exe +menu 1 +eaAccountName purplehaze42 +eaAccountPassword passwordhere +soldierName Housekeeper007 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

3) Also the TS shortcut can be optimized as follows(these are all the same parameters used to join in regular TS):

TeamSpeak.exe 67.19.106.94?nickname=HouseKeeper?loginname=housek eeper.18836?password=urpasshere?channel=Battlefiel d 2142

Batch file to launch all
What I have just done today is combined these two shorctuts into a quick batch file as well as wegame, here it is, pasted directly from the .bat file (if you don't know, simply create a text file using your version of the text below in notepad and save it as .bat instead of .txt, now you have a batch file).

'
start /d "c:\Program Files\Teamspeak2_RC2\" TeamSpeak.exe 67.19.106.94?nickname=HouseKeeper?loginname=housek eeper.18836?password=urpasshere?channel=Battlefiel d 2142

start /d "g:\Wegame\" wegame.exe
pause

start /d "g:\2142\" bf2142.exe +menu 1 +eaAccountName purplehaze42 +eaAccountPassword urpasshere +soldierName Housekeeper007 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

'

the reason for the pause is that wegame currently doesn't support auto-login, so at the pause I have to enter my wegame pass, minimize wegame, then hit any key and 2142 will launch.

So in summary I click one one file to launch TS, wegame, and 2142, and bypass the movies, straight to the soldier screen for my default soldier. Potentially (not including the wegame bypass), I would only have to double click once, then click 2 more times to join on a buddy thats playing on TG, and I'd be in there like THAT, presto, with enough time left over to bake everyone in my squad a cake.

Less time spent launching the game = more time baking cake and playing on TG. WIN! Anyways hope that helps someone who may have missed one of these steps or just didn't realize how many potential cakes they could be baking during their saved time.
