Having started this “recruitment”/public” bash I figured it was only fitting to ask, how did it go for you personally?

I was there for the Domi run and Ia Drang till it crashed. After that I grabbed some food and could no longer join Bravo for some reason.

The Domi game ran as smoothly as could be on a public server. From my side I saw a few blue on blue accidents and a few people were removed from the game but overall I’d say 90% of the pubbers listened to orders and I personally had a good time. Yes there were also a few players who cause frustration at the beginning but once things got rolling we smacked that mission around. I saw some new names and pubbers that did extremely well. It was nice to finally get the starting objectives finished.

Ia Drang: Not much to say here really. As I was in Recon we were ontop of the hill almost before the ground pounders hit their LZ. As we called out the first incoming rush, the server was kia.

And big thankyou to all the TG’ers that were there and to those that showed up. I would also like to thank the Admins that hung around and those that stepped up into Command.

This was an improv thing that had no real planning, the topic it came from is here and I would like to hear from others on how they thought things went, how we can make it better, make it a weekly or monthly thing, etc.

Thanks again folks.

Amber Squad:
FT2: Jorge(FTL/AT - JAV), Inkomp(AT - JAV), $krue(riflemen), Chechen Commander(MG)

I apologize in advance for all the stuff I forgot.

All and all an amazing game with some of the best coordination I have ever seen. Scope's over all plan was to keep the squads in the field as much as possible using the humvees and trucks as mobile ammo catches. We began the operation by each squad loading up our respective humvees with ammo and securing Zelen. I was expecting it to take the usual 20 minutes to load all the humvees with ammo and get everyone in their squads humvees but no it only took 5 minutes to get everything ready and in order. Amber quickly deployed to the south side of Zelen securing it and awaiting further orders.

After getting the briefing from Scope about our assault on the radar objective we mounted back up and headed to the south side of the objective. We moved quickly with FT1 on point to the dirt road to our east which we followed toward the objective. About 100 meters from the objective we were engaged by a Spetznaz patrol to our east. FT2 provided cover while FT1 moved into flanking position but before FT1 could begin its assault we were also engaged from the west by another patrol. So FT1 started to fall back to FT2's position and form a 360 degree perimeter. While FT1 was falling back I was killed by a nade that hit a leaf and bounced back. I gave jorge command of the squad till I could get back to the squad. He quickly rallied the remaining members of the squad but was soon engaged by a BTR-90 from the east. I ordered him to move the west and get out of the BTR-90s visual range. He was able disengage from the BTR-90 with no casualties. Around this time Marc disconnected and Boon joined in as medic. While Myself and Boon were waiting for transport back at base Crazy squad had begun their assault on the radar dish. They came under heavy fire and I order jorge to move the men in the field north to the objective so they could flank the enemy. By the time I arrived at the objective Jorge had already breached and cleared the objective and had vigil planting explosives. At the objective we met up with the remainder of Crazy squad and destroyed the objective.

While Inkomp and Jergo retrieved our Squads humvees and resupplied the squad, Scope briefed the SLs on our next objective. Once the briefing was over Amber moved southeast to our point on the firing line and got our Jav and SMAW gunners into position. Scope cleared us to fire. The Jav took out a tung while the SMAW targeted a BTR-90 while the Jav was reloading. After it reloaded the JAV engaged and destroyed the second tung. Once the second tung was destroyed and our objective complete we fell back toward the radar dish to regroup. Once regroup all squads RTB'd for rearm.

Our final objective was to be an assault on a town that was being held by a armor platoon. After rearming and being briefed Amber squad moved out to our disembark point south of the town. We moved to our recon point but since our visibility was poor the squad split. FT1 moved into the sothern part of town and took cover in a barn while FT2 moved west to Crazy squads position which had a good view of the town. The attack began with the Javs firing and hitting one of the T-90s. While Vigil engaged a T-90 to the east of town. While FT1 advanced down the main road in town a Vigil engaged a T-90 that came into view. After he eliminated my sound went... HHEERRRRPPAA DDEEERRPPPAAA and stopped. For some reason Scope had to leave as well and left me in charge with no sound or mic. Fortunately the assault was already heavily in our favor and each squad knew what it was doing. We quickly swept through the town eliminating all resistance in under 5 minutes. Which made me really sad because I was seeing so much action but couldn't hear any of it.

Thanks to everyone for one hell of a mission.

Just wanted to note that this mission was a great time for a small group.

We were led by Gungir with some new TGers (Anthony and WeaponX) and found this mission by random (just sort of a "hey, what can we play for 9 people..."). Well for 9 people, this is a winner. Nighttime with no NVGs and one map to share, medic module with no "magic" healing, so if a player has leg damage, someone has to carry him.

By the end of the mission we were carrying a couple of wounded and running for our lives in the dark with persistent enemies pursuing us to the very end. I had a few epic kills to save teammates who were doing some epic lifesaving themselves by carrying wounded. By the end of the mission, we had all survived, and the two unencumbered riflemen, myself and Anthony, had fired every round we were carrying.

Not sure who made this one... maybe Falcon? Anyway, love it. Recon into contact and trying to decide to fight or run, getting surrounded, finding our avenue of escape led to more enemies, breaking off contact again... searching for trees, please find some trees.

Oh man, it was awesome. Good times.

Folks who have played Operation Hammer know it is unwinnable.

I believe LowSpeed made this mission, where up to 8 Spez soldiers using weird Russian weapons HALO into a *heavily* fortified position to destroy to AA positions.

It's at night, but all the enemies have NVGs. Enemy Infantry walk in random patrols. The objectives are in the center of large clearings with no good way to approach. There are multiple MG nests pointed in every conceivable direction. Just to make it totally ridiculous, there is even an Avenger that will immediately focus it's weapons at ground targets, like a 360 degree bundle of evil death.

But no.

It has been beaten. Led by Mitchkov in the early morning hours with only a handful of people, two of which (including myself) died almost instantly during the first encounter, the remaining team members chewed up the first enemy position, captured the Avenger, used it to destroy the second objective before demo'ing it and screaming past an angry outpost to exfil and go safely home.

I feel honored to have been a crow and watched this insanely cool series of events unfold. Good job to the team:
Not sure of the details since I JIPed but I thought it was well organized since the moment I joined up a chopper was already waiting for JIPs back at base doing back and forth transportation from the airfield to LZ Bravo.
If someone who actually was there from the beginning of the mission could write up a small AAR, that would be great.

I just wanted to thank everyone that was on the ops tonight for a great time. We had some craziness at first, with the assault on the carrier (apparently helicopters, contrary to some sci-fi flicks, cannot instantly shift from aircraft to submersible on the fly...), then tried a map that was so tough even the server lost, but then we grabbed up a good, proper mission.

I just want to thank everyone for doing their jobs well, and covering for my own newness (is that a word?) to the game. This was my first time playing a game in the ArmA series (excluding mucking about in the very first "boot camp" tutorial mission once), and while stressful, it was definitely fun. Somehow I ended up as the op CC, and for any confusion that arose from that, and for my own unfamiliarity with this particular title, I apologize. The squad and fireteam leads did a great job of covering for me.

I'm looking forward to another op in the very near future (what's everyone doing thursday night? ^^), though preferably at a lower level in the command structure, heh. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for running things, but I'd like a chance to get a bit more familiar first (not to mention the largest group I've lead before was just a 30 man platoon in PlanetSide, and it's been a while).

Can't wait to play with you all again, and thanks for a great time.

PS
Anyone that was on that op, I'm very enthusiastic to hear any and all tips you have from experience in this series, and especially critiques of what instructions I did push out, between periods of just trying to figure out / keep track of all that was going on.

From the start the mission went well. SL's where able to organize their squads at the birds and pilots had the birds spun up ready to fly. Slight miss-communication about the ammo boxes but it worked out. Arty did a good job preping the LZ and the insertion went well. Set up of the base of operations went smooth and everyone was ready to defend within fifteen minutes of our insertion. Defence ran well and we had great overlaping fields of fire. Weapons team did a great job providing support by fire as well as precise indirect fires. The only trouble i had was getting comms with Crazy One. Angel and Bayonet had good comms and did a great job with sitreps. Super Six element also provided accurate Close Air Support missions and timely extract. Thunder One was able to provide Danger Close arty strikes on all designated points. The only hich was that we had rounds close to Angel One's possition. We where unable to confirm if it was Thunder, Crazy Element, or Enemy fire. For next time I would like the SL's to pre-designate arty for their positions for approval by command. Overall though we where able to secure the Objective and hold it. We didn't lose many people and I believe our ticket counter was at 48 at the end. If anyone has any other observations please let me know. I take all suggestions and listen to what you have to say. Help me be a better Commander for you the next time around.

Comments:
Now if you could make a longer, action lacking, more enjoyable mission, then I think you'd be pushing it, but this was just... hilariously different.
It went for ages, but it was nice to see everyone stick it out.

I must say excellent work by my squad leaders, Tralic, Barnes and Rustic. Falcon as the Detachment TL did an excellent job also :).

To a mission we won't soon forget... purely cause its embedded in our brains it took so long :).

Operation: Recon, Hold, and Eliminate at all cost LZ X-Ray. Enemy Hostile Threats Waging Terrorist Attacks on the LZ without regard to human life. They Must protect their homeland at all cost!

a first hand account....

SITREP: Had been in the outskirts of target LZ over 45 minutes now...Briefing was finally over and orders were issued...

As lead pilot took to air to land Recon headed at LZ- Whiskey, the remaing flight crew, Call Sign Dust-Off, spooled their roters two mics later and proceded to LZ Whiskey. as communications happen, comms were lost to the Dust-Off Actual, somehow by the grace of the man upsairs, my fellow soliders made it to the lz....alive!

as orders were issued, the brave leaders from alpha company, bravo company, and charley company dug in and prepared for the fight that would write history. As the weapons squad deployed the mg nest to aid with protection of their fellow men, there were under the watchful eye of the 303rd Special Activities Division, known in the Tactical Gamer Community simply as Special Warfare Operations Rapid Deployment Group, or S.W.O.R.D. (cheesey IHS plug...) recon unit, stationed an in observation posistion three-quarters of a click North-North East of LZ X-Ray.

Orders received 20 minutes ago: Hold fast and direct fire adivised from Recon, Sqad lead's Steal Rain as at your disposal, destroy enemey with extrem predjudace... was what was being passed down the line..... war is eminante.

Six clicks away. I am Command Sergeant Major Jack Bauer |TG-303|, TG SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND and I just issued a "Weapons ready" check to my men. Time to kick ass!!!

Static burst... "STEEL RAIN, THIS IS Recon, REQUEST FIREMISSION, OVER!"

Static burst... "Alpha 3 has squad strength force in sight..."

Static burst... "STEEL RAIN, TEN FIGURE GRID 024114 025115, ENEMY INFANTRY SPREAD 50 METERS, REQUEST SUPPRESSION, HOW COPY!?!?"

I broadcast the rules of engagement are now green... I take a deep breath, waiting for the slpash to come... Wait! The patrol has stopped, do they see my men??? the patrol is moving to enage alpha's location along the woodline... I'm holding my breath knowing that the men i put in charge of this mission will succed...

Static burst... "ALPHA ACTUAL, GO FOR DUST-OFF FLIGHT."

Static burst... "DUST-OFF, TARGET GRID 020114 135115, 10 TIMES ENEMY TROUPS REQUEST CAS ON TARGET, HOW COPY?"
Static burst... "DUST-OFF 1-3 ROGER, SOUTH-EAST, IN-BOUND NOW, ETA 1 MIC."

my pulse begins to rise and a mist begins to form on my brow... for this my firend is war.... and im a Tactical Gamer solider, I DO NOT LOSE!!!!
