I would like to apologize to everyone here in the forums for my post in the Prisoner of War thread. I used some very harsh language/words. Eventhough they where edited it still does not excuse my use of them, nor does it make it right. I apologize if my post offended anyone and I take full responsibility for my actions. Just know that I did what I did to try and end the fight that we where having. TG's best interest was at the forefront of what I did and said.

Again, I am sorry for my language and I promise everyone here in the Forums that it will NOT happen again.
Some of you might remember me from time when I played with you in summer and little bit in autumm. Reason I stopped playing is that I've had pretty weak computer that lagged always. It wasn't big but I got annoyed by that so I started building new computer.

I have been reading these forums all the time I haven't been playing and waiting eagerly for my build to be ready so I can start playing again.

I'm waiting to start playing some awesome games with you again.

Now, first I must ask THIS question:
Are realism and fun seperate, or are they one and the same?

Secondly, I must ask the poll question:

Which is more important AT TACTICAL GAMER? Not on Joe Bob's House of Pain, or at Jimmy Jarheads Super Simulator With Actual Bullets. At Tactical Gamer, which is more important?

Thirdly, in your eyes which is the ideal experience? Feeling like you're there, or having a good, carefree time? AT TACTICAL GAMER.

Fourthly, I must ask you to explain your answers.
Fifthly, I must ask what made you come to TG? Because it seemed like a fun server, or because you wanted to experience the military without dying? Obviously neither extreme, but you got the idea.

I won't post mine, and I'll ask the admins and the supporting members to refrain from posting as well, until at least the second page or the second day, whichever comes first. Let's hear the public, okay?

So I was thinking today about how we can improve our communication for large scale mission/events. The solution I came up with is based on how we organize our comms in the military. We need to use TS to its full potential. What this means is we need the command in one TS channel (command channel) Then the units below them in a different TS Channel. If its a large squad the 2 fire teams have thier own seperate channel. When the CO puts an order out over TS the squadleaders will issue the orders to their fireteam leaders via group chat. Then the individual fire teams can talk amongst themselves in TS. If they need the other fire team or the SL they use group. I think it might free up alot of the residual chatter on the VoN net as well as TS net.

Thoughts?

I think ArmaII will only show your name for in-game von if you are actually transmitting. My name would pop up for only a second, despite my continued transmission attempt.

I used both the original and updated version of the TGmodpack, but I have not yet tested ArmaII von in another server. I will this evening, unless someone has a similar experience and knows the fix.

I use the Steam version of ArmaII and have seen threads on steam/arma von conflicts. I do not use Steam von.

My in-game von was working this past weekend.

Hey guys currently there are several threads floating around right now skirting this topic and I thought since I'm currently devoting some of my time and energy into making missions for TG that I would be well served to get a feel for what consensus there is if any of several of these issues. For this reason I have begun this discussion in the general discussion section instead of mission development.

The first issue I would like to hear some feedback about is the issue of respawn, as a mission maker solving this problem has become a massive issue for me. My general principals on this are as follows. Firstly no one should be punished for joining late or loosing a connection, for this reason I make all my missions JIP in order to help promote server population growth. That being said there should be tangible and severe consequences for dying, at both the personal and command levels this necessitates stiff penalties for combat losses. However neither should commands or players who practice good tactics and sound cohesion be punished for the mistakes of others, for this reason a simple ticket system that ends the mission after a certain number of casualties is not an ideal situation because the same 5 people could use all the tickets irregardless of the actions of the rest of the team. My current solution involves removing 'killed' players away from the AO to a POW camp. Now I know that this is boring and uninteresting but I thought it may have been a better alternative than the 'crow module' or a similar spectator script which tend to dwindle populations especially during longer missions. Some feedback here would be greatly appreciated, do people mind spectating? or would it be preferable to have some sort of in game alternative? do people mind no-respawn missions?

Basically what do you guys think?

TG Mod Pack - Yoma AddonSync Info

This thread is *Step Two* of How to get started with ArmA2 at TG (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault-announcements-sops/143915-how-get-started-arma2-tactical-gamer.html). If you are completely new to TG and want to make sure you have all the right mods and patches, please visit that thread...

This thread is Step Two of How to get started with ArmA2 at TG. If you are completely new to TG and want to make sure you have all the right mods and patches, please visit that thread first, then come back here for Step Two.

Step 2) Download and install the TG mod pack using Yoma's automagical AddonSync.

2A. Download the most recent version of Yoma's AddonSync from here.

2B. Run the AddonSync program and click the "New Server" button at the top.

2C. Now you should be in the "Server" tab of the 3 tabs in the upper-left, "Server", "Download addons", and "Launch game". You should also be in the "Auto configuration" tab of 5 sub-tabs that appear lower near the middle.

2D. Paste this exact link into the "Auto config URL" box (2nd box from the top):

Code:

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~arma/updater/modpack.7z

(Alpha Server)
or

Code:

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~arma/updater/modpackbravo.7z

(Bravo Server)
Then click on the "Import Server" button to the right of that box.

2E. A new Favorite Server named "Tactical Gamer" should have been created.

Now, click on the "Download addons" tab of the 3 tabs near the top-left that were mentioned in 2B. With that tab open, go through the buttons on the left and press "Check for addons". When that finishes press "Download addons". You are now downloading the official TG Mod Pack.

When all of the individual addons in the download list finishes, check them over to see if any of them were missed. Every addon in that list should be highlighted with green with Status "Ok".

2F. Of the three tabs mentioned in the prior step, click on the "Launch game" one now. In the bottom-left corner, you will see two buttons. Click on the one that says "Add modset".

A window titled, "Modset configuration : (Tactical Gamer)" should have popped up. On the left, check-mark the box next to "@tgmodpack", and then enter "Modset name" in the middle-top box with something like "TG Mod Pack". Click "Save" in the bottom-right, and you should be back to the "Launch game" tab.

Lastly, in the left window you should see the words "TG Mod Pack", or whatever you selected as your Modset name. Click on those words and they should become highlighted, and a "@tgmodpack;" should have appeared in the box under that one, titled "Mods to use for launch".

After finishing the rest of the steps, launch the game by clicking on the "launch arma" button in the bottom-right.

2G. You are finished! Now click here to travel back to the "How to get started" thread and continue until you complete all the steps there.

___

Yoma's AddonSync allows TG to update its Mod Pack and make the update available instantly with the click of a button. Every once in a while, or when you find that you are unable to connect to the TG servers, make sure to check for updates by repeating step 2E, checking for and downloading new addons. The updates will usually be small and minor, and you will be able to play upon completion of the new downloads.

I recently participated in two separate TG online team v team simulations wherein at a certain point we begin generating prisoners instead of respawn. In one game I was a prisoner and in the other I was a Bluefor pursuing escaped prisoners.

I have gone back and read all the required reading for this site and I have a question that I would like to introduce.

What are the rules of engagement regarding escaped prisoners?

I would like to preface this question with my considerations as a BlueForce "Marine".

(1) I was in the middle of battle and did not expect to see enemy uniforms behind me or in our midst.

(2) I was a fire team leader and did not have time to "deal with" runaways while still keeping my team focused.

(3) I do not actually know if an escaped prisoner can pick up a weapon and take us on again like a re-spawn?

(4) I do know that they can "occupy" our base forcing us to send troops to look for enemy.

Now with all that in mind I remind everyone that in the real world, prisoners of war have a "duty" to escape. They do so to (1) tie up enemy resources that would be better used elsewhere, (2) to rejoin the war once back in allied lines, (3) they can provide valuable tactical insights if debriefed about their escape and what the saw on way out (defenses, lay-of- land, strength of opposition, etc)

As I see it, as a grunt, we are faced with exactly the same dilemna here that faces real soldiers (except we don't have the real soul penalty of having to or deciding to kill some one who is escaping).

The site takes great pride in its attempt at realistic gaming and providing thought provoking disciplined teamwork.

I see the dilemma as follows, in the game I have three choices (1) shoot them dead (not sure if they re-spawn when killed as escaping prisoner so maybe we should just wound them and leave them to crawl around crippled), (2) assign someone to make sure they don't escape (see dilemma "one" cause he/she would have to shoot them dead or wound them, make a rule that says, in the game as a prisoner, you will not and have no duty to escape, or (3) better engineering control (as in make the walls higher).

As a footnote, in both games the prisoners had trenches still with them which they deployed in the prison to get over the walls. Quite ingenious actually, but prisoners are in real life.

Lest someone here think I am an idiot and remind me "this is just a game", I remind you, not to us. I think it may be time to discuss this.

If you have not seen it there is a youTube video by Dyslexi where he snipes an enemy squad, then surrenders, heals some of them, with them discussing what they shouwl do with him, then escapes, while they debate shooting him, then reacquires his sniper rifle and goes back to killing them. It is a most excellent example of something similar and raises the same questions.

Let me see if I can find the link : Never mind I can't place a url until I have made fifteen posts but if you search him on you tube and use "Dslyecxi feeling a little sorry for what he's done" , you should find it. If someone who has more post replys, please pose the link for others here.

Anyway, perhaps we should discuss this and set guidelines for (1) prisoner treatment even escaped (2) prisoner responsibilities and rules when confined.

Sincerely,

tiggr

.... my solution : I shot two of them and returned to managing my squad. Shot a third one running across a field later but did not know it at time cause they were so far away I couldn't see if they were armed or not. Another player tried to talk them back into prison or at least not to run amook. I believe that day three prisoners were killed and one made it back to their base (don't know what he did after that).

... I am not suggesting my solution as the answer to the problem ... I am suggesting we have no guidelines!

NOVEMBER 21 2009

Players will be required for TeamSpeak roll call on the TGU channel 30 minutes before the module.
Anyone who is not present 10 mins before the scheduled start time will be counted as absent and will be disallowed from participating in the next module run for the game in which the module was missed.

Module Name:Air Assault School
Prerequisite: None
Instructor:|TG-303|Dredge, |TG-353|Boondocksaint, |TG-Irr|Dr. Nner.

What not to post:
"What time will it be in my time zone?" Work it out.
"Are non-supporting members allowed to participate?" Yes. However, supporting members get priority.
"It's not fair! I keep getting pushed out by Supporting Members!" Become one.
"Can you change the date?" No, the date is confirmed.
"I'm on the reserve list. How good are my chances of playing if I show up?" Decent. There'll inevitably be a few cancelations before the session and there can be one or two no-shows on the day of the session.

Quick Session Information
Date: "November 21"
Time: " 12PM EST, 1700 UK,0900 PST"
Be on Teamspeak By: " 1130 EST, 1630 UK, 0830 PST"
Estimated Duration: "2-3 hours"
Server: IP/Password Given in Teamspeak
Module: "Air Assault"
Number of Students: "20-30"

Ground Rules:
CHECK FIRE! Once on the server, hold your fire until specifically instructed to do so. This is very important so that your instructor can address everyone without background noise of weapons fire or explosions.
No one is allowed in or near the helicopters except for the DESIGNATED pilots. Pilots will be designated PRIOR to the event.
Listen to your instructor and follow their directions. It is important that everyone listen to the instructor and be ready to follow instructions so that the material in the module can be covered in a timely manner. The more the instructor has to be off-topic the longer the module will take to complete.
Minimize Com Chatter. Questions are greatly encouraged as part of the learning process, but many people may have questions at once. If you have a question or comment, simply type a request such as "question" or "comment" in the in-game chat and your instructor will call on you and let you have the com when they are able.

How Spots Are Assigned:
The first priority will be given to Supporting Members above non-Supporting Members. After that, Pathfinders, then Non-Supporting Members

A reserve list will be made up when all the playing spots are filled. Supporting members, once again, have priority. When a player with a spot cancels, they will be replaced by the first person on the reserve list.

How to Sign Up
IMPORTANT!
Players who no-show without notice for a session will be precluded from participating in the following session for the game where they were absent. Don't let your team mates down! Only sign up if you can make it. Because class spaces are limited, please don't take a spot unless you're confident you can play.

To sign up, please simply reply with the following two items of information:
1) In house squad (unaffiliated if none)
2) Your in-game name.

Please reply to this message with the above information if you wish to sign up.
Players will be signed up on a first-come first-served basis.
Supporting Members get precendence in the order they sign up, then Non-Supporting Members afterwards. Your SM status at the time of signup determines which list you will be on. Once you post, you cannot become a SM later to work your way up the list.
You can pull out, but if you reconfirm, you will find yourself at the bottom of the roster.
You may not hand over your spot to another specific player. Your spot will be given to the next available player.

*Thanks Socomseal for this outline*

Ok so I feel we had a nice debate about becoming a Sm in my last post. Before I begin take notice, I know some people are too young, can't afford, or other extreme reason why they can't be an SM. But this message is to my fellow TGers that for some reason or another don't have the desire to become a SM. The reply I get is what do I get for becoming a Sm some extra forums I won't read, my own email i won't use. To be honest these are valid points, but they also are not. See it's not called The TG store where you can buy an email address and forum access like we are some paid tech forums or a porn site! It's called Supporting Member for a reason. The main reason to become a Sm is to support TG. You may say, if TG needs money to run it's servers make being a SM mandatory. No because as with all great things IE Democracy, it should be giving to the people for free, but this is not realistic.

As with democracy, it takes funds to run, (taxes). Try going to vote and when you havn't paid your taxes. Which brings me to my next point, what do you get for becoming a SM in TG. There are unwritten benifits to becoming a SM. Some of the ones we all openly see is that SM's get priority for events, other things like classes in TG. But what are some of the other benifits, what benifits should be added.

I feel, and admins read, this is not a complaint but a disscussion, that we should have certain benifits added or maybe they already exisit and we havn't been doing it. As an SM we should have priority IMO over non SM for slots in missions all the time, we should be the ones to vote or pick the missions everynight, if no admins are on a SM should be running the server with the ingame version of admin.

Why do I say these things, do I feel they will bring in more SM's, I do, do I also feel they will push non SM's away from TG, it might, but that is why I am posting this, because like a democracy, TG is a group of people trying to do something great, I devote alot to TG, and others that arn't SM's do too, Skin, is a prime example I can think of. But I close with this try going to a movie and seeing it without any money, in the end it is human nature to expect something in return for money. This is true for everything, as I stated being an SM is about supporting TG, but its also about the returns.

People always expect something in return. People that donate to charity even expect something in return, and what they get is that good feeling inside for helping people. See te human nature aspect, nobody does anthing really if they don't gain something in the end. What to I feel I get from TG and being an SM. I get to play on the best Arma 2 servers around, and got to make my own IHS. This might not be enough for some people but it is to me. So please if you can afford $8 a month, or for my euro bro's I'll have browna convert it lol, please become a supporting member today.

(all views are of Boondocks Drunken thoughts alone, it does not represent TG or the 353rd in anyway)

changes include:

What we are going to try and do for this event is basically a show and tell for the pubbs on Bravo that need that little bit extra to join up. We would be playing the Domination map that Marvin has been wanting to complete (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/arma-2-...gamer-ers.html). Also we would then move over to Ia Drang. Now, I know alot of you just rolled your eyes and looked for the back button on your browser but just hold on one sec. We are trying to introduce more people to TG. Who here hasnt spent time on Bravo answering questions and helping someone out to turn around the next day and see them posting in the forums and possibly even having "SM" attached to their names? I have seen a few personally. So, if they are able to play the map they read about in PC Gamer with the TG guys that are now "PC Gamer famous" it might be the catalyst they need to join our community. Please don't be selfish on this one. I myself will be there. So what I need from you guys is a list of some TG guys that want to come help me run the "Recruitment Drive" as it where. I dont need a full server of TG just a few that are willing to help. I know its short notice but sunday is usually the best time for all of us. And barring any TG events we can make this a regular thing.

All I need is:
IHS (none if unaffiliated)
Name

Also there is no harm no foul if you don't show up. Remember its a mini-event/recruiting drive hybrid thing. If you sign up but dont show up its all good. (i might TP your house though) Thanks again guys.

The reason the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines bicker amongst themselves is that they don't speak the same language. For instance, Take the simple phrase "secure the building".

The Army will post guards around the place.
The Navy will turn out the lights and lock the doors.
The Marines will kill everybody inside and set up a headquarters.
The Air Force will take out a 5 year lease with an option to buy.
