One of the things I've noted in the public games I've played is a "rush to contact" mentality that doesn't play to the games strength. The team dynamics really call for a more team oriented approach - recon, infantry, armor, support - that lets you slow down and move in a coordinated manner that really brings out the games best features. We have a core group that uses more advanced tactics when we go host raiding and I've seen the more tactical approach succeed again and again. I've played ArmA and like it but this lets me experience that type of combat scenario without having to dig latrines.

Thanks to everyone who signed up for the community event today and those who came out as reserves.
It turned out to be a lot of fun because we were able to play the game like we wanted to...the TG way and I had a blast.

Big thank you to Miles for hosting. The games ran perfectly.
Also, thanks to all the FTLs who stepped up, especially Bastard and Aumen1 as the anchors for each team. Excellent communication and coordination with the rest of us.

Here is a brief AAR just from my POV. Sure there are other stories to tell.

Round 1 Infiltration - On Home Soil (Sunburn Launcher)

I was on US attack force. Aumen had all FT's run the ridge on the East side of the map all the way North so we could swing SW and attack. Visual spotting confirmed the PLA was looking in different directions from out approach so we remained stealth. As we took a position NE of the missile, a hold fire order was missed (possibly language barrier) and the PLA were alerted to our position.

Immediately the PLA started flanking us as we pressed in. We started taking heavy casualties so the time came to move or die. Miles FT held overwatch for us as we moved in. I approached the target from the East wall and Aumen and another player moved in from the South entrance. I was able to catch 2 PLA guards inside the wall and gave the "all clear" for Aumen to set the charges. BLAM. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Round 2 Infiltration - White Fang

I was on US attacking force. Aumen gave us the order to rally to a point Northeast of the White Fang complex. Miles took the Sniper team to a position on the East side. We moved across the northern part of the road and were met with a PLA attack vehicle. Once that engagement finished we turned South so we were on the Northwest side of the White Fang complex moving through the rolling hills and brush for cover. As we pressed in the PLA were alerted to our attack angle and we started to get eaten up fast. It got ugly.

Again, it was time to press as the PLA seemed to really outnumber us. I noticed at one point a gap open up in the defenses on the NW side of the buildings. I sprinted with my AI and held up at the main entrance. I was spotted and was being hunted my the enemy. Just as I tried to heal, someone came around the corner, caught me with a pack in my hand and killed me. "Medic"..."Medic"...I cried. One of my AI tried to heal me and was killed. "Medic!"...and just before I should have died, an AI healed me after the enemy had left me for dead. The second I popped up I fumbled for a mortar smoke barrage and ran for cover to the building. The smoke was so dense I could not see anything. I dropped C4 and found the stairs up to the ammo room. I saw one PLA guard that I was able to kill. Entered the room expecting another, but nobody there. I realized my charge was downstairs and would not set another, so I went to the corner of the building and BLAM. Phew...that was real close.

Round 3 Annihilation- Bridge Dusk

I was PLA on this one. For me, this round should have been called "how to get eaten alive by a sniper no matter where you hid". We tried to move South and cross on the Western side, no go. Went East, no go. Decided to pile into the middle and let the grenade launcher rip and just hunkered down. I will pinned down most of that time, so the map turned into a real meat grinder. Not much more to say than, whew, glad that was over.

Round 4 Annihilation - SF Docks Night

This map has a big chokepoint right in the middle as well as high ground. No matter what side you are on, do not get pinned in the middle. You always have access to the high ground or water from the base so it is a matter of positioning. I was PLA and went sniper. I focused on different hillside positions to provide overwatch for the FT's on the ground. This one turned out to be an in your face stalemate with each side just trading kills. The chokepoint got filled from each direction and it became the bottom of the grinder. Both teams tried flanking and there was a limited water assault, but this pretty much became head to head firefights.

Thanks again to all that played. OFPDR has been great for me because I have been able to play it with the guys I always play with as well as make some new friends from different parts of TG. All excellent players with a lot to contribute to the community. Good times.

It looks like they are finally in the mood to talk. The news that dedicated server files will or cannot be added has fueled a return frenzy in their forums. There is no time table given for the patch but promises that major issues will be addressed. It seems by US , British, and European law that the game is returnable for a refund but Steam is another issue altogether.

The patch fixes very little, and practically NONE of the game play killing bugs and issues.

The 2 FTE missions are a joke, poorly done... I myself could of done better... and at least 100 others have made missions 10x better.

and then the 2 new MP maps... SWEET, but they haven't fixed anyone of the game killing MP bugs to make it worth playing... hit detection is still way to screwed up to even bother with MP.

All BS... and to think I payed 400 points for the 360 add-on pack... Codemasters is in contention with Activision for my choice of crappy'est Publisher of the year...

Absolutely BS.

We are happy to announce that the first Operation Flashpoint®: Dragon Rising downloadable content – the ‘Skirmish’ pack – will be available for PC tomorrow, November 5th, bundled with a title update patch.

Title Updates for the console editions of the game will arrive prior to the launch of the ‘Skirmish’ DLC pack on Xbox LIVE and PSN. The Title Update for the Xbox 360 will be available tomorrow, November 5th, with the Title Update for the PS3 to follow shortly.

The ‘Skirmish’ video, available to view above showcases some of the new content available. Players are shown going head to head in attack helicopters, deploying tanks and APCs and engaging in ranged and close quarters combat in the wide ranging new maps and missions featured in the downloadable content.

The ‘Skirmish’ DLC features four new multiplayer maps and two new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions featuring both solo and four player co-operative play. Hunt down SAM launchers hidden in the sprawling complex of ‘Lumberyard’ and assault dug in PLA forces and fight room to room in ‘White Fang’, two tense new ‘Infiltration’ multiplayer maps. ‘Annihilation’ multiplayer maps pitch armour and infantry against each other in rolling battles across a valley in ‘Stomping Grounds’ and in ‘Force Dispersal’ military bases separated by a strategic hill become a close-quarters killing ground.

New FTE missions include ‘All Round Defence’, which places gamers in control of air support and attack helicopters as they defend a fortified complex against relentless waves of PLA. In ‘Uphill Struggle’ players must capture a bunker under heavy fire from hillside reinforcements. Gamers can also recon the entire 220 km˛ island of Skira alone or co-operatively in a range of vehicles at day or night in ‘Island Tour.’

Tomorrow’s title update/patch will include a range of updates and improvements for the multiplayer and single player modes of the game, and if you’d like to see the full fix lists for each platform check out this thread over at the official OFPDR forums:

The ‘Skirmish’ pack for PC will be free to download.

I did NOT make any of these missions, just collected them, tested them, and put them all together... with most of the makers permissions, some never replied.

This will probably be the last pack from me. Getting bored with the game now... and waiting for Codemasters to fix the serious issues, before I shelve it for good.

Won't play force on force till they fix the hit detection and lag issues.

We have 75 players on our soldiers list but I'm only seeing 6 or 7 of these in game. Have I missed something? We've been trying the in game match making and while there are a few of the expected "stats 'hores" most of the players are attempting to play the game. I realize that the absence of ded ser's is a problem but I'm not having that many issues pre-patch to justify the lack of participation. The command structure is a bit clunky and not being able to issue orders on the fly or change weapons on the move slightly annoying but these are not as evident in a PvP game.

JB4 has fostered a relationship with Eraser that is bringing new content as its being created and CM has given us a time period for release of the patch so what else do we need to do to help maintain interest in this?

We've teamed up with Intel to bring you a brand new competition to help mission makers flex their creative muscles and score some amazing prizes in the process! :)

Entitled the "Intel Mission Contest", your goal is simply to create a singleplayer or cooperative mission for the game. So get started on your new missions early in order to be ready for when the competition goes live on the 2nd of November 2009.

I found this folder:

C:\Users\GhostDog\Documents\My Games\OFDR\Profiles\_TG_6th_GhostDog\Game Save

which contains two more folders, 'Game Save0' and 'Game Save1'. Both of these folders contain two files, would anyone who played coop on hardcore (not sure if the mode matters), that has a save game where we can continue the campaign from mission 8, would be so kind to share it with me.

We really don't feel like playing all those missions again. I just wanna find out if it is possible to continue someone else 's campaign.

Thx
