Re: Far Cry 2 on PC ... Awesome or not ? your thoughts plz
If thats the case, what mental defects plague so many consolers to make that acceptable?

Good point but still a shame. I have hope for the MP past the server UI as the maps seem rather nice.
The game does have some really great effects going for it. Anyone shot a pile of ammo yet? 4th of July baby! The fire and explosions are top notch as well. I find more and more I have to play this game like a movie, lots of shooting and explosions with little regaurd for tactics or proper weapon choice.

I just got to act 2 and realise that this is a very long single player game. Which I love. I think the begining act should perhaps have been a little different to get you hooked, it seems like they wanted to give you lots of time to just play around before the story starts kicking in?
It's a shame because if you play a good chunk of time in SP you still may only be in the first act, depending on how many side missions you do? Shame because that may be all people think the SP is.

I give it about a 4/10. It's pretty, but the gameplay is repetitive in the extreme and badly hampered by UI issues inherited from the console, terrible weapons balance, dumb AI, missions that all boil down to 'go to this place, kill this guy' without any real variety, and no mod support.
Which is a shame, because with Mod support you could get an entire multiplayer mode out of building a huge grassy platform and strategically setting it on fire to kill the other guys.

Anyone Play with the Map Builder yet? Uber Easy and Very powerful.. Not sure what goodness will come from it...but its there..
How come we can't climb anything in games yet? I mean..really climb.. not on a ladder..but up an embankment.. Grab a tree to help us.. or something... Nothing more frustrating then knowing you should be able to get to point B from A but the Character capable of taking a direct round or two to the body cant jump a foot in the air or Grab something to pull himself up.... GRRR.. And for a Shooter like this to not have PRONE or lean left/right is inexcusable eh?
But I keep going back.. Since I have the mortar I just drive into visual distance of a checkpoint and try to blow it up... And Sometimes I just drive off road to try and run over a zebra.. Just cause I can.. ( they are fast bastages tho..)
6/10 for me... a real time killer but repetitive.. beautiful but limited..
(But compared the new Bond Quantum of Solstice its a 15/10!! That game is a 5 hour Crap-a-thon.. ..sorry..venting)|TG|ARMA Pathfinder
..now where did I put my keys?

Uhmm what? The game has been out for a week, have some patience

I'm sure that there will be mods in the next year for it but it takes time. The fact that it comes with a free map editor is a big first step.
I agree though that a TG mod for it would be nice in the future.

Re: Far Cry 2 on PC ... Awesome or not ? your thoughts plz
I played some more MP on the weekend and think this game has some potential.
The name tags are a big give away and need to be tonned down. I do like the lack of a mini map but then you have your teamates name tags blazing across the screen.
I like the leveling up but the stock weapons are severly underpowered. The damage needs to be increased for all weapons. The only single shot kill weapons are the .50 cal as far as I can tell.
The maps are a nice size for this game and the fact that you max out at 16 players gives you some room to move. However the fact that the maps are large means the sniper class rules. One map in particular is rather long but you can see from one spawn to the other and a guy with a .50 cal was able to just pick us off constantly as we spawned in
I have no idea how to mod but a mod that strips down some of the tags, increases damage accordingly and perhaps adds the ability for all players to cap flags would make for a great game IMO.

Re: Far Cry 2 on PC ... Awesome or not ? your thoughts plz
I am uninstalling this. I just can't bring myself to play it again. I didn't get far the first time I played it, just didn't seem open world to me at all. The tunnel like paths between relatively enclosed areas is something I remember from late N64 games that promised open area combat. All they have really done is up the texture and lighting, a new coat of paint as it were.
The weapons feel poor and somewhat 'plasticky', lacking any real heft or substance. The AI is abysmal. After playing for half an hour I just felt bored and depressed, the console compromises are evident at every turn. Never been so disappointed in a game. In comparing it to Crysis, which got some stick for supposed lack of gameplay I would say Far Cry 2 suffers badly. Far Cry 1 was better in my opinion and for all Crysis's imperfections it is a far more enjoyable game. Hell even the expansion game CrysisWarhead was more enjoyable for me. Would rather play through COD4 again, much more fun.TG PR Admins: Fighting for YOU on the frontlines in the War on Stupidity.

Fun at times, but the endless traveling back and forth is just retarded...I don't want to walk around in the jungle for 15 minutes with nothing to do but shoot at leaves and vines. :P
