Without saying too much, it was a total miss for me. Nothing like what they promised. It's basically UT2004 that you pay for monthly...

Actually, its going to be free to play now. Also, they are not going with the cross-platform play now.

If you can get this to start, and get past the Nguard and menu screens. I think this game has some really nice potential. I won't say anymore since its a closed beta. It's pretty neat so far though.
Tips for NGUARD? I have been locked out since release (2 days..heh)... due to this BUG...

And Beta only runs from 2:00-10:00 PST in the evening I believe...

I read on gameguard's page to goto "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" and open the "Hosts" file with notepad, and remove the lines that did not have the "#" in front.

    ie.

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost

Of course, I tried this on XP, and it worked. This file here is on my Vista, the gameguard connected on Vista right off the bat, but in XP I had to remove the extra lines to get it to connect.

If you use Firefox you wont have any issues when you first install.
Also, you have to restart/patch a few times to get it to work. After that, it's fine. You dont need to alter any files.

I only had to do it for gameguard, didn't modify any files for Huxley. A lot of people were trying over and over and could never get gameguard to connect to install itself.

Saw some gameplay trailers. I think this one's gonna exit stage right and vanish into bargain bins without even a whimper.

It's free-to-play... it's already in the bargain bins.
If it costed money you'd be right.
In all honesty, it'll be the nicest f2p FPS game out there when it releases; assuming they get the bugs out.

Are they planning on making money through microtransactions?

I heard about this game in a PC Gamer mag a few years ago and have been following it ever since. I had such high hopes but sorry to tell you that:

This game sucks. I played through the whole closed beta phase with a key I got from my paid File Planet subscription. (yes you heard right, paid for beta)

I haven't touched the game since open beta. It's nothing like Planetside (no open world pvp).

The only PvP in the game is instanced matches almost exactly like UT. The only difference is that you level up and acquire more gear and more stuff to make you stronger, better weapons, etc...

Oh and you can also do single player quests by going and killing a bunch of things in an instanced zone which help you level up.

We were hoping for so long that it was going to be a monthly subscription game with no micro transactions but low and behold they sold the title to a KOREAN company called WEBZEN which is known for F2P micro transaction games.

Needless to say it did not fare well in the US market, but maybe they weren't aiming for us.

Also, the game in open beta still felt like it was in Alpha. A small amount of quests actually worked and the game crashed every 5 minutes. Not to mention the several thousand other bugs it still had. They should never have released that game, so much hype for nothing.

    My $0.02.
