01-26-2004, 06:43 AM #17And it's pretty damn sweet!!! The graphics are gorgeous, the physics are more realistic than any game I've ever played. The bad guys go down with 1-2 shots to the body. The vehicles are better looking than BF:1942!

Singleplayer games still suck, BTW... The AI in this one was just like all the others... Set it on "easy" and the AI ignore you until you start stabbing them in the back. Set it on "hard" and you get sniped by pistols before you can even see them... Set it on "medium" and they don't notice you until you'd think they would, but once they do, they've got that aimbot thing going for them... No creative thinking... Lame...Become a supporting member!

AI was kinda quirky, but when I checked the "AI balance" toggle thing, they seemed to work a bit better...

I agree that AI is really sucky, but agree that Frijole's suggestion that the AI balance option seems to help.
On the good news side, things I've noticed that are cool:
1. When you aim a sniper rifle, unless you are prone, your aiming point wanders all over the place. Nice realistic touch.
2. When you run (or hold your breath underwater!), you have a limited supply of endurance to keep going. Small thing, but nice.
3. I noted in one instance I triggered an explosion that tipped over some barrels. They rolled downhill quite realistically (and separately), with one eventually rolling into the ocean...where it slowed but kept rolling downslope!
4. I was able to shoot some hanging light fixtures that then began swinging in response to the rounds.
On balance...very, very impressive engine. AI/Gameplay could be better, but still is decent fun at middle setting. Hard setting is...well...hard.Beep

the Mp demo is happening now.. they drew names or something to people that signed up over in ubi's forums...

I like the game. The AI is a bit dumb if you're ina bush with an mp5sd. The graphics are really good. I like the massive amount of vegetation to hide in and the water effects are great. I have a P4 2.0 Ghz, 2Gb RAM and an ATI 9500 Pro, on board sound and it runs really well, better than I thought it would.
So I ramped everything to full and it still seemed smooth until I got into combat and then it got choppy. The light effect with the steam was really good and I like the way things fall over if you bump into them.
Overall I'm impressed. I hope they add an option to allow realistic kills (i.e. no health or super body armour).Jex.

yeah, I have a feeling that the files for the MP5 were corrupted or something... no sounds at all. Whether firing or reloading, there was no sounds... Wonder if the AI is cued off those missing sound files.
I was able to snipe guys at distance with the mp5, and they never moved even after being blasted a half dozen times...

OFP and GR have the best AI I've ever played against. It's a pity these games aren't considered bench mark for AI.
