    Very stoked to see a revamped version of 'The Edge'. That map is probably my all time favorite in the entire series.

    I've been excited for this game for a couple years now since I first heard the news about it's pre-production.

    With that said, I won't be able to play it. I flirted with danger in purchasing HL2. It requires a 1.2Ghz processor and I only have a 1.0Ghz. I heard so many good things about it so I decided to chance it anyway. Surprisingly though it runs great, so I lucked out. With Q4 requiring a 2.0Ghz or better, I don't feel as if I'll be as lucky this time.

    ^^^^No those Voodoo laptops are so much better. Imagine a 4800+ Athlon X2 in a laptop with the mobility Radeon X800XT. (Note this was before the release of the 7800GTX Go.)

    Unfortunately this all costs money and money is something I'm on the short side of these days.

    Has anyone purchased this game yet? I'm interested to hear what the general consensus is on it from those of whom have played it first hand, more so on the multiplayer aspect.

    i just insatlled it this morning and first impressions of sp are very good. if you liked doom 3 then youll love quake 4. graphics wise im running a 3.4 ghz processor with 2 gigs of ram and a x800 radeon and i have the game on ultra settings with absolutly no framerate drop even with 15 or so strogg and 4 or 5 marines on the screen shooting it out
    will post in a bit after i try out the multiplayer

    But... Doom 3 was horrible... low res textures, low poly models, simple A to B AI. Extremely repetitive and uninspired gameplay. Run into this room, turn around and shoot the spawning demon, turn around and kill 2 more, grab item, then turn around and blast 3 more demons. Repeat ad infinitum. The most interesting parts were the voice mails, and those were directly ripped from System Shock.

    yea every 1 has to diss doom 3. i thought it was pretty fun.

    dude, you just described EVERY FPS sp in history...
    so far quake 4 is just as linear as any other fps ive played

    edit: dont bother buying this game till they patch it. after putting a few hours into it i go back this morning to play again and every time i try to load a saved game it crashes to the desktop. ive tried changing my settings and everything but to no avail.
    ugh.....another 50 dollars i have to wait to enjoy, till someone decide to design decent games im seriously considering downloading all my games from now on

    i mean really, cant we get a finshed product that works? if i went to buy a car and they dropped it off at my house after i paid for it and it wouldnt start dont you think i would get my money back? wheres the difference here? i should be able to get my money back for a game that wont run on a system three times the minimum system requirements .......am i right?

    this eula crap has got to go, i mean, i have to sign a legal document to use something i own? and the stores policy of "we dont refund for games cause you could have copied it" is crap ..if i want a game of any sort i can get it..free, without having to bother with the store at all

    when i buy a game it should work, PERIOD! <rant over>

    Serious Sam is better than Doom 3.

    Deus Ex is better than Doom 3 (both of them).

    Both System Shocks are better than Doom 3.

    The Thief series is better than Doom 3.

    The Half Life series is better than Doom 3.

    The Max Payne series is better than Doom 3.

    Mafia is better than Doom 3.

    The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is better than Doom 3.

    Fear is better than Doom 3.

    None of those games were as predictable and repetitive as Doom 3.
