Guess it is truly a dead series...
Well we know how Lockdown became letdown to most of us who loved the original Rainbow Six series of games...
Then there was news of Rainbow Six: Vegas being developed even before Lockdown was in our hot hands... it was rumored, and reported that it was also coming for PC... but then I asked myself... "who would buy the next R6, after such a disappointment with Lockdown"... Well it appears that R6: Vegas is canceled for PC, and some other platforms. copy/paste from www.worthplaying.com Originally announced on PC, current, and next-gen platforms, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas seems to be slimming down. A more recent statement only mentioned next-gen, and when Ubisoft revealed its E3 lineup earlier this week no versions except PS3 and X360 were listed. A Ubisoft spokes person commented that the Montreal team is currently focussing on those two platforms only, thus in effect cancelling the PS2 and Xbox versions of Tom Clancy's latest tactical shooter. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six makes its next-generation hardware debut in the most dramatic installment of the renowned first-person shooter franchise to date. Rainbow operatives take to the chaotic streets of Las Vegas as an escalating terrorist siege in "Sin City" threatens to take world terrorism to new, uncontrollable heights. The future of global security hangs in the balance as you battle to defend classic Vegas locations and environments like Fremont Street, the Strip and casinos. Experience Las Vegas like never before * through revollutionary next generation technology as you work against the clock to protect one of the world's most recognizable cities from utter devastation. What happens when one of the world’s most famous cities is held hostage by terrorists? Key Features Ubisoft Montreal Returns * Rainbow Six is back in the he hands of Ubisoft's Montreal studio, creators of the award-winning and highly acclaimed Rainbow Six 3, promising traditional tactical gameplay. Why did the article end with:
"A Ubisoft spokes person commented that the Montreal team is currently focussing on those two platforms only, thus in effect cancelling the PS2 and Xbox versions of Tom Clancy's latest tactical shooter." Why didn't they mention that this, in effect, also cancels the PC version?

The PC version is NOT dead. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums...934#2331060934 The PC version has been handed down to a seperate dev team and there is not enough done to show at E3. But there will be a PC version... Quote:

Re: Guess it is truly a dead series...
Yep watching e3 this was confirmed. The guy said basically its being developed seperatly because PC players are different, so basically GRAW 360 as to GRAW PC. How the game will vary, this game is looking pretty cool, and using the unreal engine 3 should make it graphically pretty awesome and system demanding of course for the PC.

Re: Guess it is truly a dead series...
It was dead for me when they copped out and licenced an engine for Raven Sheild.
But I was a huge fan of the RB6, and RogueSpear series. Especially when the UrbanOps expansion pack allowed for servers to restrict 3rd Person. That was the pinnacle of the series, the rest has been down hill. I don't put GR in the same genre, although it was a unique game for it's time, in scale and physics. If your interested I stumbled across this a few weeks ago. I in no way indorse this product, but it's the only thing I've ever found that is new about the Rogue series. It actually looks kind of dumb.... Rogue Spear Renewal. Dunno exactly how it works or what it supposed to be, I still have all my discs right up to Black Thorn, I just haven't found the ambition to load it all up again and fiddle with this mod. Here's something else you'd be interested in: An old freind from the Rogue Years (as I like to fondly remember them as) is working on a total converstion mod using I believe the HL2 engine called.......... Total Retribution He hopes to bring back the flat footed non-jumping style of the RB6/Rogue series. Is basically going it alone with just some die hard support from other followers. I try and check in now and then, I'm no help to them as I only play games. I did try to do a server side pistol map once on the Rogue editor. Got it completed, and saved it wrong. That was the end of my developement career.

Re: Guess it is truly a dead series...
I don't see how licensing an engine means a game is bad. I mean, SWAT 4, America's Army, and Red Orchestra are all great squad based shooters that don't have their own engine. I enjoyed Raven Shield, although Rogue Spear was still better.

In general I don't jump ship on a game if I feel the newer installment isn't better.I didn't play BFV, and thought it a miserable failure, I continued to play BF'42 till BF2 came out. I'm still up in the air as to whether I might just go right back to BF'42. Does a series have make leaps and bounds with each installment? No. But to me Raven was a step backwards and was the defining moment when RedStorm/UBI killed that series by not being inovative enough or even sticking with what they knew was a good formula.

Re: Guess it is truly a dead series...
I really think the DEVS have a good handle on why LockDown failed and are truely going to make this a proper Next-Gen title. I have decided to avoid the PC version though. I found that GR:AW was a much better sequel on the XBOX 360 and I'm afraid that all the cool stuff I've been seeing about R6:Vegas won't translate over to the PC version...
