Does anyone else find the game difficult, even on the easiest setting? I mean wait until you get past the Garbage area, especially when you have to go steal the military documents. You have to use the headshot a lot too. Because the military guys have lots of armor, you could empty one clip into one person and not kill him.

The gameplay is great. My only problem is that everytime i try to access the options or save/load game screens, it locks up horribly and often i have to do a hard reboot. Im having to play almost entirely on quick saves and quick loads, and ill be damned if i try to change any settings. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've only done a regular save once and that was before I tried taking on the Military Check point to the south. I'm currently playing on veteran with no crosshairs. It's definitely a challenge, especially with the inaccuracy of the weapons right now. You constantly have to close in on an enemy position before engaging or else you'll just waste ammo as your bullets hit everything but your target. It is cool to see the rounds ricochet.
My problem right now is balancing my backpack. I'm guessing 800+ rounds of 9mm ammo is a bit much. I also have a small armory consisting of an AK74u, silenced pistol (amazingly useful at night), an mp5, a sawn off shotgun (great against mutants) and the default pistol.
It's amazing at how random things can turn out. A gun fight will go one way the first time through but after reloading you could get an entirely different fight even if you approach it the same way. I had one battle where it was straight up shooting but when I reloaded after dying the gunfight turned into mayhem when some of the local dogs attacked in the middle of the shootout, taking down anything in their path.
good game so far, definitely looking forward to getting deeper.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Whoa! I haven't even left the first small group of buildings and I'm impressed. Really feels like the area around Chernobyl. I like the Russian dialogue - nice touch.
I'm waiting until I'm dialed in on my settings before moving forward. I have a fairly nice setup.
Can anyone suggesting some settings and what setting your playing with?
I've got things at Medium 1360 - 1024 Full Dynamic Lighting.

If there's something to complain about the Russian dialogue, is that there are no subtitles IMO. The shooting is absolutely not like Operation Flashpoint, especially how a Ukrainian soldier can absorb up crazy damage when I unload a full magazine of 5.45 x 39mm rounds at him at point-blank range.

Im playin with no crosshairs too...does a lot for realism and difficulty. Man, once things start to heat up in the garbage, its HARD. I was merely walking around and stumpled upon a camp of bandits who all started opening fire on me. Used up most of my ammo and health kits takin em down.
I did find a sweet AKU 74 with a modification to make it fire faster. The guns are innacurate so far but no more than they should be imo. You really have to close the distance and fire burst at the head to do good. Im really lookin forward to gettin a gun with a scope. Im trying to obsolete my shotgun as im finding a lot more ammo for my assault rifle but i keep it around cuz it is pretty handy indoors againts mutants. I find a sub machine gun better though.
I havent found any problems with bugs yet. Maybe he shouldve actually got a retail copy? It pisses me off when people download games. These guys have been working on this game for 6 years, they only charge $40, i mean come on...but thats a whole nother topic...
The game is VERY random and it pays to save every so often. VERY spooky too. Just wait till you go underground with the invisible bloodsuckers...have fun
Gotta wait till tomorrow cuz ill just crap my pantalones if i play anymore tonight.

Overall, its a good enough game to warrant buying. But there are some annoying game "features" and several bugs.
When i entered Garbage i saw 4 bandits about 50 meters ahead, all of which were aware that i was in the area. I snuck past them by moving from tree to tree, and when i looked over ALL 4 of them were sitting behind the same tree looking down the same road. Obviously the AI had a hickup here, as that is a stupid setup.
Friendly AI also has a really bad habit of pushing you out of cover. I died, or nearly died, several times because of this. In most games, you can push the AI around so that they dont get in yourway. Its completely opposite in this game for some reason.
The aiming system is inaccurate because they didnt want you to sit back at 200 yards away and pistol snipe people. I agree with that. But you should be able to pistol snipe from 15 meters away, and ya just cant. Hell, you cant with most rifles either. It just leads to more frustration because you can line up a perfect headshot, only to miss and alert everyone around the target that you are not only there, but have terrible aim to boot.
The loading is also screwed up. Everyone says that when you reload an area, you can have a totally different firefight. The reason for this is because when you load, enemies and friendlies are in different places unless they were scripted originally. I tested this by quick saving in a hallway with one badguy in front of me. When i loaded, there were 2. This creates a lot of frustration particularly when you are sneaking around a base trying to avoid detection because when you load, all of the locations of enemies that you memorized are different.
And of course on my computer, for whatever crazy reason, when i try to load from the main menu, it locks up 50% of the time. Im surprised nobody else is having this problem. I cant even begin to guess what the reason is.
EDIT: Been looking around on forums, and it may have something to do with my Nvidia graphics card. http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=...ype=xr&lang=en Most of them also have vista, which i do not. So frustrating.Last edited by Santa; 03-22-2007 at 01:44 AM.

What are your specs these days?
Also, when I first installed this game, and tried to load it up, and it locked my computer up completley (first lockup on new comp to). After that it has ran really good. Only other thing was earlier today I was playing, and the screen flashed, the same kind as if you were Alt-Tabbing out, it goes black. Well it went black for a slight second, and then went back, but then I started seeing this weird visual defect in front of my characters face. Sorta blue colored thing. All I did was restart and it was good to go.|TG-12th|UnDeaD77

AMD athlon 3000 +, 2.1 ghz, 1 GB ram, 7800 GS OC. Total paging file size for all dirves is 3068 MB. I know a simple restart wont fix it because when it crashes, it DOES restart.
