Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
i know it has probs with vista but they are workin on a patch for it. Im sure you realize that your processor is a bit stone age material. Even if you spend $100 on a low end dual core, you get a big improvement on fps's.
I really dont find any of the problems youre talking about. I dont know why. I have encountered someone pushing me out of cover though and it is annoying but it doesnt happen that often. I do wish the silenced pistol was a bit more accurate, but if its night, you can pretty much sneak up real close to get an easy headshot on them.
As for the graphics, im running everything on or near maximum. For some reason this game needs a LOT of AA so i bumped that up all the way on 1920x1200 and i still see jaggies. Unless im overlooking a huge camp with a lot of people its smooth as butter. And for some reason it really bogs down when i go underground. Not too too bad but noticable.

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
I haven't noticed or had any technical problems or bugs. My main issue seems to be my settings. I want to get them dialed in before moving forward. I can't seem to decide if the game runs better on the highest resolution and medium settings or vice versa.
I'm just equipped with the pistol and just found the doubled barreled shotgun. It's a bit more difficult to hit targets with the guns as the mechanics of the weapon seem to be more true to life. I'm a poor shot to begin, even with the more forgiving auto aim in alot of games so it's going to take some practice which is another aspect of the game I like. Nice change of pace, you actually have to think about your next move. I think I'll play with no cross hairs to step up the challenge.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
I really like the randomness of the game. Things never happen the same way twice it seems if I have to reload. Very nice for long term playability. Oh, and I hate those damn dogs!
I have everything on high at 1280x1024 and I avg. 30-50fps. It's totally playable with my specs. Vista, 4600+ X2, 2GB RAM and 7950GT 512MB vid.
Oh, I do get a crash during game saves (ESC or Quick F6) but it only happens 1-in-10 times so I can live with it. Hopefully they patch this soon.

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
I also find that it's retardly impossible to kill a person. I kept thinking I was missing so I tried a test. There's a training program for an invincibility cheat. I turned it on and walked up point blank to one of the military enemies. I used the AK silenced and fired on single into his torso. It took somewhere in the range of 7-16 bullets to kill him. That's not right. Often, the enemy would flinch then run away for cover.

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
They are meant to be that powerful. If you cant get a headshot, its not worth firing unless you have a shotgun (and even then, go for the head).
This game does need patching though. First, they need to do optimization. Fix the nvidia card problem i have and get vista support. A distant second would be the odd AI bugs, and a even more distant 3rd would be other little annoying quirks.

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Damn, how far are you already? I kept dying at the part where you come up underground after finding Strelok's stash and the flash drive, and right as you come up the ladder, I'm getting shot at right away from the guys in the towers. Don't laugh but I used the trainer right there for unlimited health. There's just too many of them and I didn't have enough rounds for the fast shooting AK.
I haven't really played a single player game in a long time, so either I suck or these games are becoming more difficult.
Oh yeah anyone else tried the multiplayer yet. I tried one server yesterday for about 5 minutes. People were warping all over the place and I think the server crashed shortly thereafter.|TG-12th| jmaker

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
*Spoiler*
Are you talking about the military installation where you have to steal some briefcase? I snuck all the way up to the second floor where one guard is pacing back and forth. At this point i tried saving and i crashed, so i didnt get a chance to do it all stealthy. However, i bet if you can sneak up on him and get a shot off without him firing, the alarm wont go off. Probably best to do it with a silence weapon if you have one (i dont
)

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Spoiler
If you go into one of the nearby barracks with only one entrance you can shotgun them to death as they come in....thats what i did
And once you get the Stalker suit and then the Monolith suit you take a lot less dmg per round which helps a LOT
My main rifle in a Okagon (sp?) with nade launcher and scope...very nice gun. I swap it out for a different one every now and then since they wear out. Sometimes the guns jam at the most inoppurtune times...

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Where do screenshots save at in this game? I've looked in my documents, and the program folder itself. Inside the THQ, and all the folders of stalker..must of missed something.

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Unfortunately, there isn't much ammunition at the beginning of the game. It's quite risky wasting it on headshots. Once you kill a few guys, you can start wasting ammo on headshots but even then... sometimes it seems like the bullets aren't going where I'm aiming. The person can be so close that the entire ironsight tip is within the person yet I'll still miss.
I tried another test with some bandits and the AK-74 (no silencer). It was almost the same result at point blank range. Sometimes it took 12 body shots to kill the bandit. I switched to the shotgun and sometimes it was 2 shots from close range.
There's something missing from this game. It's nice to be able to sneak around but I'm finding that it's fruitless to get that silenced kill (knife or silenced gun). The AI is pretty good at spotting you so you end up in some drawn out gun fight (only because it takes so many shots to kill someone).
The mini-map is a little awkward. The compass icon is a set of two arrows (blue and red, I can never remember which one represents North). There are constant encounters with bandits. Typically, they're in narrow areas because of these odd fences or hills that prevent you from circling around.
I can't believe how much I miss surround sound. Apparently, there's a fix by copying the BF2 OpenAL DLL file over Stalker's OpenAL DLL file but that doesn't seem to work in Vista. Often, I hear noises that seem close by but aren't or I can't figure out the direction very well.
Eating seems like a weird requirement. My first "hunger pang" came in the middle of a firefight with a couple bandits. I opened my inventory and ate a sausage then continued fighting. Hardly rewarding or worthy of a feature if all I have to do is click on an icon representing food to get rid of some other icon representing hunger to prevent a red bar from going down. It's even more ridiculous that I can do this in the middle of a firefight.
Bandit: "I'm going to shoot you in the face!"
Marked One: "Hold on, dude. I gotta eat. It'll take a few seconds so time out, man."
What this game needs is a bit more polishing. The idea and presentation is really good but the implementation needs a lot of work. There's a meter for sound detection but there needs to be a better indicator for visual detection. Splinter Cell does this very well. It was also very intuitive. Hide in shadow, avoid detection. In Stalker, hide in bush and get shot. Yet, pop out from manhole with flashlight on and soldier in tower ignores you. The damage has to be heavily tweaked. I don't care if the guy is wearing armor. Shooting him 15 times in the body is way too many bullets. With the accuracy of the guns, we should go back to the Napoleonic Era and stand in line formations taking turns shooting at each other. There are certainly enough bandits around to set up a reenactment.
Despite all this, I still feel the need to scavenge for items and survive in the Zone...

Re: S.t.a.l.k.e.r.
Let's hope that it's possible to create mods and addons to correct the unrealistic enemy health system.
Snail, your weapon is an AN-94 Abakan, possibly with a GP-25 grenade launcher and a PSO-1 scope. I hate that GSC modified the gun names, at least I can ID the weapons on sight. Go me!
Is there any way to carry more than 50lbs? I hate it when you can't carry an extra LR300 or two to carry back to The Trader or Barkeeper.
