    Teamwork Makes the Difference

2-4-2008 - 11:00pm EST Burning Crusade Server - Streets Map

    |TG-8th|Rage4Order - Squad Leader - Assault / Air support
    |TG-8th|Machowner - Assault / Air support
    |TG-8th|G--Man - Heavy Assault / Air support
    |TG-9th|Draeh - Assault / Air support
    |TG-8th|Catman - Assault / Drone Tech

We had all met around 10:00 for a few rounds of FFoW and started out on a Oil Field server, good times had by all but we started itching for some down and dirty Streets action so we all switched over to Burning Crusade and so begins this story...

The sides must have been un even before we arrived because we all were on the Red Star side at load, unbalancing the teams by one. The ticket count showed us down about 40 tickets and the frontline was pushed all the way back, we only had one spawn choice, our main.

First order, spawn, clear the main and push hard as a squad around the back left to Fuel Station. Moving together we cleared our base and flipped the fuel station flag rather quickly, taking the pressure off our main. Once we had control of the first flag, I sent 3 of my squad to capture statue while G and I snuck through the subway. With assistance from the other players, my 3 captured statue with some resistance but none the less we moved the frontline forward. I was already in position in the tunnel that is subway when cat and mach spawned on me in the tunnel, Draeh survived the battle at statue and was moving around the far right. We took up position at the bottom of the stairs, mach and rage taking point with G guarding the rear. Cat immediatly put up a recon drone chopper to give us intel on where the push back was coming from. With all 5 of us on the flag, it was flipping very fast. I ordered all my squad to drop precision arty on the Tent City flag in anticipation of a rush to that flag as soon as we capped Subway. Our arty arrived just about the time we took subway and we made a hard push to cap tent city. Our teammates were doing a really nice job spawning in behind us keeping what we were taking. Our push to Tents was met almost with no resistance with G keeping the street clear and Cat with his drone giving us the position of the bad guys, again we pushed the frontline forward, pinning them into their main. Once we capped Tents, Draeh, Mach and G pushed right up the middle while I made my way around to the left to clear the ally. With the drone high above us and the rest of our team pushing in from the right we took care of their main, capping them out when just 5 minutes earlier we were pushed into the same position we now had them in. We capped them out with a 40 ticket deficit in their favor.

This squad was awesome, they needed very little direction, knew what needed to be done without being asked. It really showed me that one squad against an un-orginized group makes a huge difference. Thanks to all that participated.

The rest of the night we had some awesome rounds with some very memorable incounters with WhiskeySix and some C4 in a dark tunnel....but that is another story.

Yeah I wish I had turned FRAPS on before that round, I might have caught a little run in with WhiskeySix in the Subway in a later round though

It was a great time last night and really great to see how quickly everything turned around with us working as a team.

    Re: Teamwork Makes the Difference

I was actually an EMP tech. In later rounds, I was able to quell the almost non stop drones from the WC by deploying my EMP stick at the bus. This forced the WC forces to deal with us on an infantry level, and with us working as a squad they didn't stand a chance.

I love the Frontlines mentality. I like the fact that there is no sneaking around to a back flag. You must deal with the enemy before advancing. It keeps everyone, whether attacking or defending, right in the thick of things.

    Re: Teamwork Makes the Difference

Had some good fights that street round... I was on WC, and there wasn't much teamwork going on. I decided to be as annoying as I could defending various flags... held off a few attacks on gas-station before I was finally over-run. It was 1 against many, but the defender always has the advantage, and I was lucky enough to leverage terrain (and lack of revives) to my advantage.... reminds me of this from... woah.. a LONG time ago:

    A few other thoughts:

On defense, you get to choose where you will fight. On offense you choose when to fight.

In practice, this means that on defense, make them come to you! Before a shot is fired, you know where they're going (the flag) and the routes they can take to get there. Knowing that, you can decide ahead of time what cover you'll use, and what cover you'll leave for the attacker.

Practical example: Some of the CP's (on Zatar, Daqing, etc) are fenced-in with just 4-5 entrances. Use that to your advantage: if you see a guy run past the hole in the fence, resist your imprinted "chase instinct", and let them go!! Let them go?! Yes!! See, when you chase them and going toe-to-toe in an open field outside the fence, you totally forfeit all of your advantages as a defender!! Instead, make THEM run through that bottleneck and mow-em-down when they do!! (the same theory applies to vehicles)

Remember: there's no time-pressure as a defender! By default, the defender wins (It's a successful defense if they never attack.), so sit back and wait for them cross into your sights.

Also - for SM's, print/read this long, but execellent post by Leejo: Principles of Defense ...

(Sorry to ramble - the concept is still very fresh in my mind after a very satisfying defensive round on Karkand last night.)

(*Legal Disclaimer: BF2 is an increadibly dynamic game - defending the Suburbs on Karkand is very different from defending Construction Site on Sharqi. These tactics are easier to implement on some CP's than others - use at you're own risk )

Anyway - after I lost that flag I decided to fall back and defend subway using an EMP stick and some C4. I dropped 1 C4 at the bottom of the stairs, and then headed over to the west end of the pedestrian tunnel and dropped a few more there. Killed rage a few times and then the nades started raining down the stairs... fortunately C4 can't be destroyed like that, so I was able to blow up a good handful of guys before finally poking my head out too far.... (There's an incredibly useful ammo crate by the west entrance, so you can get more C4 without even leaving the tunnel... just make your way to the west stairwell)

Exactly my thinking, in rounds I've played where no teamwork was evident, we either lost quickly or spent the round objective hoping just trying to stay alive. When some teamwork is used it switches the advantage in your favor quickly.
Now when was that story about that C4 WHORE |TG-12th|WhiskeySix going to happen? Ooops did I say that out load?

What's really cool about the C4 is that in one hand you carry the trigger, and the other you carry a C4 pack. So it's left-click to drop the packs, and right-click to detonate.

That's much better than BF2, where you have right-clicking pulls out the detonator, and then you have to left-click again to trigger the detonator.

Just a question: having not played Frontlines, I was wondering, can you revive guys? Also, what kit revives, and are there health and ammo packs like in BF? Thanks

There are no medic classes, no revives or health packs. Frontlines uses a self-heal system. A soldier can not throw down ammo packs, but there are ammo stations littered around the map where you can resupply.

Hey Rob! check out this thread: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/frontli...ative-bfx.html

When you get hit, your screen gets distorted and you have trouble seeing.. then you slowly recover/heal over time... so when you get shot-up, you have to retreat and find cover... there's no insta-heal.
