Winning GNAW with 2 squads (360)
Last night (March 3rd), Was the best night of squad play I have had. Remember the whole MSN messenger/360 chatpad thing we were talking about? Well it worked!
Squads: Squad 1: IO Dragone General Keen IO friend 1 IO friend 2 Squad 2 G REGSMITH Lag Sonata Scarface6174 Random guy How we worked together: Me and IO both have the chatpad and MSN messenger. At the beginning of the round, we started up squads and msg'd that we would take the north and IO's squad would take the south. That's pretty much all that was needed. I do think that if either squad was getting absoutly hammered, we would have used the text chat to call for help. At least 8 of 16 players on our side were in a squad, (our 2 squads) so that 's a force to be reconed with. My squad worked well, with roles being spread out. 1 Airstrike, 1 EMP tech, and 1 Ground Support. I'm not sure what that 3rd random guy was running. G REGSMITH ran with a tank most of the time, and didn't try to get all fancy with his movments. He moved up to cover us while we took objectives. ***NOTE*** Tanks make a GREAT distraction while capping CPs. I started out with Airstrike tech, but there were enemy EMPs all over the place. So I switched to my normal setup and all of a sudden, our other teammates airstrikes were open, and we were constantly covered with my stick. 2 rounds in a row, with 16 v 16 I capped 3 CPs. That would be the 2 north CPs along with the final CP. I'm not saying that as a proclimation of how great I am, but of the teamwork that allowed me to accomplish this. Having Airstrikes rain down on the enemy CP, and a tank covering our advance, it worked like a charm.

Re: Winning GNAW with 2 squads (360)
Normally its really frustrating playing FFOW, even with a squad, because you can't coordinate offense and defense. Well, let me say when you ARE able to coordinate, wow. We started hammering the enemy team in about 5 minutes flat with a complete capout by the 3rd round. It was nice not haveing to worry about guarding 2 or 3 objectives at once, knowing theres an organized squad on the other side of the map doing business.
As far as supporting each other during the match, I think common sense was the deciding factor. Alot of times, my squad would get pinned down on the left side by an entrenched enemy force, so as soon as the guys took the right point we would have a steady stream of reinforcements hitting the defenders right in the flank (I don't know if it was Scarface's squad or not). Another time, we were trying to cap their main base, when our point on the north was being taken (my squad was on the south). So we quickly loaded up in my trusty IFV Veera and retook that point while it was still neutralized, so there wasn't even a hiccup in our offense. My squad, we had an emp, airstrike and ground support, and I was drone. We'd all spawn at the main base and load up in an IFV. I'd disembark them at the city center and give them support from the IFV, usually covering the left flank. Then, if they died, they could spawn nice and cozy in my vehicle. Then once that was secured we'd head straight up the left street and take the AAA site. At first it was easy, but as the rounds went on they were putting up more and more of a defense. Those were some hectic battles on that left street! For the record, I love being RSA just because of their IFV and the fact that it holds infantry. Even though the Powell is supposed to be able to hold infantry, it can't. My favorite part of the GNAW match though? My IFV Veera. She just refused to die.... I ended a round 10 and 0 in her.... and I was also completely out of ammo for both the autocannon and the tow missles. |

Aww... you named your APC. That's sweet!
BTW, for some reason I almost never had any resistance on the 1st north objective. I think i had 2 people attack 1 time, but I killed em both easily. I did come over a few times to help attack on the south side while we were waiting around for you slackers to get the job done. ![]()

Just so you know I also have a chatpad if you're looking to get a three squad effort going at some point.
I also think this could work quite well if you have a laptop or other computer nearby as you could run MSN on that and essentially have a dedicated command comms channel. Do you think that it would also be beneficial to have a universally accepted shorthand to use for instructions, or are you guys already doing something similar to this? |

Since my box is broken, I haven't been on. We didn't use shorthand when I was though. It's a good idea man. Mostly we didn't need it cause we went all proctologist on them and recked em' pretty well. The only typing we did was "need help?" with a relpy of "y" or "n." Not much on the tactical side.
