Discussion: Frontlines: Fuel of War / Frontlines - General Discussion - just got the beta last night... - Excuse me, but what is so different (besides a few little things here and there)

    just got the beta last night...

    Excuse me, but what is so different (besides a few little things here and there) from the Battlefield series... it plays almost the exact same, with a few extras and stuff... I've only got an hour or two in the beta but it is just a BF2 clone, (as alot of games are lately), was really hoping for a more tactical experience with this title.

    add another one to the action gamer list for 2008... any tactical games coming out in 2008? lol

    Game looks pretty tactical and strategic to me. BF2 clone is exactly what I want, or a BF2 killer. No other games really offer the squad/ and voip system, with the commo rose.

    Ya, it's a cross between GRAW2 (all the remote toys and all, lol) and BF2... guess the majority here would want that after all... was looking more for a tactical experience though... does seem to have alot of features, could be the BF killer some are looking for.

    There are no more Rainbow 6 /Swat 4's out there... 'sniff...
    Even ARMA 2 or OpFlashpoint 2 will be Consolized I think... Just for sales purposes.

    Hey not trying to offend anyone... but those who play and think Battlefield 2 type games are tactical... well your right, Pac Man multiplayer can be played with tactics... I'm just saying I was hoping Frontline would be more tactical, like the games of yester-year... Ghost Recon (original) Rainbow Six (orginal)... Frontline seems to take on the same gameplay style as BF2... run and gun with tactics, take a few hits then bleed out or whatever... heck I don't know what REAL tactical is, just saying from what I read Frontline was suppose to be more of a tactical shooter then a action shooter...but that info was wrong IMO and my 4 hours of playtime with the beta.

    I know many of you will love it, the BF2 killer, lol... just not everyone.

    Swat 4 was the best tactical game made in a long time and no one supported it at the end of the day game makers need to make money and games like ArmA and Swat 4 ain't making enough to entice other game developers into making games for the super tactical niche market. I don't know where you read that FoW was going to be a tactical shooter cause from the get go it was marketed as a BF2 style game from day one, but I agree Id like to see some more realism based games but no one buys them thats just the fact of the matter. I have my fingers crossed for a Swat 5 but I think a swat mod for CoD4 is more likely (if your really looking for a R6 old style tactical experience CoD4 hardcore S&D can come close) all that aside I think FoW has the potential to be a good TG style game.

    ... and since Frontlines head Dev is Frank Delise.. Whos first studio Trauma made Desert Combat(BF1942 mod, which was the most played mod of 42), before getting bought out by DICE then EA. He was directly involved in creating BF2 and BF2142... He then grabbed his people and ran off to create KAOS studios..

    IMO, making FL the way it is, is just continuing DC with a new engine and more game making experience.
    I am just hoping Kaos continues with the game support that Trauma did.

    You see, I happen to enjoy the evolving battle field of the BF series.. Every minute of every game is different, unless you want to sit on the same hill every day.. sry I get bored easily .. Not saying that BF2 is perfect(dont own 2142), but it can be played tactically, I just get bored with Rainbow, CS and such games.

    Not that I'm aware of. The whole squad side of things doesn't appear to be used much at the moment.

    Thanks for the correction Lucky. I guess I just haven't seen it because I rarely see squads on the beta servers right now. I usually create my own just so I can set waypoints for myself but rarely have anyone else join.

    Man, as fun as it has been so far, I'd love to play some rounds in a squad with other TGers. That, and hopefully they implement the VOIP soon.

    There is a plan for VOIP but it hasn't happened yet. Frankly, I think it would be only good at a squad level. It would be difficult to listen to 32 people discuss how high they flew when they died. The game has all sorts of potential.

    I totally agree since there isn't a CO. Squad level VOIP would be perfect. As much as they hate having it compared to the BF series, BF2 really implemented orders and VOIP in an ALMOST perfect way.

    If they can just tighten a few things up and implement the VOIP in a useable way, I think I've found my BF2 replacement.
