Re: What's same/different relative to BFx?

From an interview with Kaos Studios GM, Frank Delise:
Quote:
For the frontlines game mode, we went back and fourth on a few ideas. We look at everything from standard conquest style game modes to game modes such as Push, which we had in Desert Combat. When we went back to look at the problems with the current games, we realized that no teamwork was really required and Push was the closest to teamwork. However, Push was a single objective, which caused serious choke points. So we looked at real battle plans, which have multiple objectives on a frontline. Once you achieve the objectives, the front pushes forward. So our inspiration came from real battle plans as well as our experience on Desert Combat on what worked and what didn’t. We really want to get away from having people spread all over the map with no teamwork.

Also - there's no commander, so it'll be interesting to see how squad leaders work together. I'm still trying to find out if there will be a SL<->SL VOIP channel.

Re: What's same/different relative to BFx?

Will 360 players and PC players be able to play together?

Do vehicles respawn like in BF2 Vanilla or more like PR?

No, at least initially, the console and PC games will be separate. I guess they're looking at Live Anywhere (or whatever it's called), but haven't figured it out yet.

Vanilla... seems to be in the 20-30 second range?

I hope we can extend that time a bit. Make the vehicles more valuable. Force players to support and repair them. The respawn time as well.

Yeah, we'll definitely be tweaking the times to better balance things - we'll need input from the community to get the balance right.

Re: What's same/different relative to BFx?

I'll tell you I personally think Frontlines is a "tougher" game to play then vanilla BFx. There are just too many ways to die and the battles are a lot more "shock and awe" confined to the line and the objectives.

Trying to maintain composure when your bunker is getting hit by cluster bombs, choppers, drones, etc. is quite tough.

The tweakability is there for us to play with a better style of gameplay though. Just dont bring the ticket-mechanic into the game. I hate tickets. And FFOW is all about the frontlines and objectives - which I love.

If im getting the game on PC itll just be for the mods anyways.. To me the spawn times are way too short and same with the respawn times with the choppers, thats just my personal preference but Im guessing that their will be some kickass mods (realism or not) for the game..

Re: What's same/different relative to BF2 / BF2142?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, but:
1) How many buildings are enterable? Is it like vBF2 where they are there only for cover, or like PR where you can go into only one room?

2) Wall cover. I've seen a trailer where some guys are hiding behind a low wall and doing that 'blind fire' thing (like in Rainbow 6 Vegas) where they just stick their gun over the wall and spray away. Is this in the game or just for show, and if so, how is it done?

3)Destructable buildings- are they fully destructable, partially destructable (always blow up in same way, like PR) or not at all?

4) Vehicle damage- are you able to blow the tracks off a tank, puncture the tyre of a jeep, or disable the turret of an APC?
Answers would be appreciated, thanks.

Westy.

Westy.
These are from my observations. Others may have found things I have missed during gameplay.

1) I haven't come across any buildings that you could enter thru a doorway Just buidlings that have been blown open. Some of these have ways to pass thru to other harder to reach areas. Mostly I think they are there for cover.

2) I haven't seen anyone do it and there is not an option in the controls to do it so unless I'm missing something another no to this.

3) From what i've seen only some structures are destructable. The more fragile buildings like motor pool cover bulidings (like something that would be at your local gas station covering the pumps) , concrete walls for cover (like road dividers and stand alone walls), etc...

4) From what i've seen there isn't seperate damage models for different parts to the vehichles. So as you damage a vehicle it may start to show the damage with outside effects like smoke or catching on fire but it doesn't effect performance until you go boom.
