Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

I tried the heavy assault again. While prone it is usable, the assault accomplishes the same. I put forth massive effort into using it over assault last night and more scores were very poor as a reflection. While I like some applications, especially those in a defensive set, the assault rifles just seem that much more effective. To get kills even using short bursts I was still moving through the same % of my magazine as the assault.

maybe it's supposed to be more of a suppression weapon?

I've tried to use in in that manner with little success. Maybe with a squad at my side it will have more effect. For a lone player, the opposition just uses the muzzle flash to zero in on your position.

I think so. Better attacking a group of enemies, than a lone assault.

When I had success with the weapon, there were other things going on. My weapon wasn't the only focus. Part of a group the weapon seemed to be on par with the assault rifle even maybe a little better as I was able to engage a group of enemies. Everyone would get some shots in, but the sustained fire ended up finishing a few of the enemies off while the others reloaded.

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

so...here again in my newbness, i am trying to understand that you can be a certain "type" of little dude..like an "Assault"..but then you also have a "Specialty" or "Role" that you also play as like a backup..?

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

That's exactly right - you basically choose your weapon (SMG, sniper rifle, shotgun, etc), and then choose what "role" your soldier was trained for in basic training - electronic countermeasures (EMP), air-support, drone-technician, or ground-support engineer. Each "role" gives you different "secondary weapons". Check the "What is Frontlines" sticky for videos...

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

Hey birdie!

The Assault type is your weapons loadout while the "Role" is you specialty on the battlefield.

The types are

Assault, Heavy Assault, Sniper, Anti Vehicle, Spec Ops, Close Quarters.

The roles are

Support, EMP Tech, Drone Tech, and Air Support.

Assault is what it says it is. It is the general assault soldier.
Heavy Assault is more like the "support" role from 2142. Suppressive fire, that sort of thing.
Sniper is well you know... useless. lol.
Anti Vehicle wields a shoulder fired missile.
Spec Ops has an SMG and the dreaded C4.
Close Quarters is a Shotgun.

Support can repair things and then gains a gun emplacement and a sentry drone.
EMP Tech is invisible to the enemies minimap and gains an anti-vehicle emp rocket and an EMP stick (covers an area when setup were Airstrikes, drones and other enemy vehicles cannot operate).
Drone Tech has an R/C recon heli loaded with C4 and then gains a C4/chain gun car and then an attack heli.
Air Support can call in airstrikes. (way cool).

Tonight is a good night birdie. Rage was just saying that you'll have a bunch of 8th TG to play with as well.

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

i tried getting on that evening, but had uber issues with my cursor..

ended up re-installing and all seems well..

i ended up at spec ops more than anything with the little drones, as there was only a few people on the server i managed to play on yesterday(tuesday) morning..i spent several hours on though, trying to get acquainted with stuff..really enjoyed learning, but it only stayed on the one map..it would never change..so i did not get to drive tanks and jeeps and stuff..i really like all of the little helo drones..the 2 of them and that little 4WD thingy was a lot of fun..i never got to play the other side that had the minigun drone..although i was raped by one a few times..

what is the thing with the super speed?..that was ridiculous..but some c4 slowed that guy down..
