Get your newbie questions answered here

I was wondering if a when you park a recon drone (right click then get your gun out and run around again), if the parked drone still spots or you have to be in the consule driving it ?

Yep, quite useful for moving it ahead of a coordinated squad and trying to get it into a position that has line of sight for the crosshairs on an avenue of travel but yet isn't so obvious it immediately gets taken out.

What is the best kit for the n00b to start out with to get a good feel for the game?

play equal time on both maps, swap out your kits regularly, but keep your role to build it up to level 3 and see all the unlocks, one role at a time. I suggest starting with air strike role, its a satisfying role to play on both of the available maps

Probably assault class to just get a feel for things as it's probably the best overall class in my opinion. As far as roles, take your pick. I happened to start with the Drone role just for the novelty of controlling the drones. I have learned to appreciate the other classes and roles as much if not more.

I absolutely love the Air strike role. Just got done playing oilfield three times and it was a blast calling in cluster bombs on turtled enemy troops. Another great role for me is the support. Once you get up to the sentry you'll see what I mean.

Best not to be Heavy Assault or Close Quarters kits since they are both very underpowered compared to the Assault and Spec-op guns.

Played for the first time last night and concentrated on assault and airstrike and have to agree, a very satisfying role, I am a big fan of the fuel bomb!

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

I like Assault or Spec Ops with Drone or Support. I want to experiment with EMP sometime today. Anyone have any EMP tips?

It's amazing how pitiful the heavy assault is. Considering the magazine size of the other weapons it doesn't even have that many more rounds to make up for it. if you know you are only going to have short range engagements, the best kit is probably spec ops. It seems to have a little less recoil and has the same size magazine.

I saw the flash from your fuel air bomb on the other side of the map on Streets.

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

Heavy Assault is great for defense. Laying prone with squad mates to watch your flank, you can effectively hold down say an alley on streets, or overlooking the cp on oilfields. Theres hardly any recoil while prone and firing in bursts (like you should) helps even more. Not many people in beta play much defense, but im sure we will a plenty when it goes retail.

Emp is great for pissing people off (which is why i love it). First, you cant be seen by drones which makes you a bit harder to kill, you can see ther other team's EMP sticks and drones on your HUD when you get within range and alert teamates. Level 2 you get a nice big EMP shockwave cannon thingy and while it doesnt have lock on, if you fire within the vicinity of tanks, helos, jeeps, and drones, it basically shuts them down (think of emp from 2142). Nice way to get a new tank And lastly the EMP stick....ah the EMP stick, how i love you. By placing one of these babies around the CP youre defending, youve essentially created a safe zone from drone, tanks, APC's and air strikes. Make sure you hide it pretty good or the enemy will destroy it easily, but keep it near the center of your point for maximum effectiveness. Nothing pisses off the air strikes more than not being able to put a strike where they want it.

Emp is useful on offense but absolutely critical on defense.

Question about SQUAD menu

After you press "X" to get into the squad menu and go to the player list I noticed that sometimes the player names are overlapping. If you want to send invitations to a group at the start of the round is it just as easy as highlighting the box next to their name? Also, is there anyway to place attack or defend markers on the map (like BF2 beyond your immediate FOV?) I can only place them on what I can see real time in the game and may be missing something. I tried to find squad commands on the FFOW website but could not find anything.
The squad tutorial on youtube did not cover advance markers either.

Re: Get your newbie questions answered here

In the squad menu, sometimes the player's name will be on the wrong line - it'll show up overlayed 1-line down. To select that player, you check the box where the name should be... i.e. the line above with no name beside it.

The SL-orders system in the beta leaves a lot to be desired.. I don't know if it's as designed, but you can't issue orders on the map. Also - everytime the SL dies, the orders disappear and you have to reissue them.

oh.. and I tried the LMG prone - didn't seem to be very accurate - using the assault rifle for the same job seems better, as it's more accurate, has better zoom, and about the same rate of fire and mag-capacity.
