What's Working, What's Not Working, What's Possible?

Well, the countdown begins! I think most of us had a chance to finish the beta strong in a blaze of glory with some extra playing time toward the end. I could see on many servers, a sense of squad organization emerging and some very SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant and Timebound) tactics creating great results for one team or another within each 5 round series. Since we have a little time on our hands before the release, and a little time to digest, I would like to get your take on what you observed or did within a squad that really made a difference for success within the game.

I will kick it off:

One of the most significant things I saw was the power or the EMP tools. Used offensively within a squad, we had one or two players disabling armor or helicopters on Oil Fields with the EMP rockets, calling it out to the squad, and then another squad member would destroy the vehicles with anti-vehicle rockets. A real one two punch.

Used defensively, the obvious approach is to deploy EMP beacons near entry points to your forward CPs and demand that infantry come in and take it the old fashioned way. I was most impressed about a week ago when I saw a losing team use EMP beacons to give themselves some breathing room around their last CP and escape routes to other CPs and protect themselves from the rain of air strikes that start to really hit home on rounds 3-5. They clearly had a few drones up to light the way out and they fast tracked it out of there. Several players on our team were fully charged with no effective place to put the strikes and it gave the other team a fighting chance to regain forward posts. I was also on the receiving end 2 nights ago where no EMPs were deployed for protection and it was a constant rain of pain.

While I really enjoy playing with all the "toys", it became very obvious to me that the best laid plans and high tech toys could quickly fall victim to EMPs.
A squad with a nice balance of coordinated kits can really make a difference.

Going along with that, EMP Tech on Street is quite possibly stronger than the drone tech. Not only seeing the drones, but bing able to EMP them is HUGE. Also, as WC make sure you dont go flyiny blindly around corners. Those Autoturrets mess you up. Have an EMP rocket ready, or an EMP stick so that you can disable it first.

I've recently started playing with the Support tech on Oil Field (I play 360, yay for me!). I've realised that if you want to fly the chopper or drive a vehicle, then support tech is the way to go. Auto repair is key. Having 2 support techs will not speed up the auto repair, but it will make things go faster if both get out and repair.

Make sure also that you travel in at least a pack of 2. You CAN survive a 1v1 with another tank, but that other tank around the corner is going to mess you up.

Always make it an unfair fight. I don't care if I have to wait at the main with my squaddie until another tank shows up, I'm gonna travel in 2s. Heck, travel in 4s. Have the whole squad be tanks squad. The tank machine gunner is such an underaprecciated role. When running a tank by myself, I sometimes get in the 2nd position when infantry are around becasue it seems like those bullets travel faster than the 1st position's machine gun.

As RSA, have a squaddie put down an auto turret as you are taking an objective. It makes for GREAT backup as an extra squaddie, and it defends the position well also. Pair it with an EMP stick and you've got one hard mamma jamma to destroy since they can't call an airstrike on it.

Good or bad hints/ideas?

These are some very good points!

I can't stress enough the use of the EMP stick. It stops everything but infantry dead in its tracks. Your suggestion of coupling it with a sentry is outstanding.

Sniping tips on Oil Field

-When sniping from the refinery in the middle, always prone out.

-Also don't get on the obvious places, the tall stacks. I've had great sucess from the roof that's accessable from the inside of the refinery.

-Try out ther things than Airstrike! Put down an auto-turret behind you at the ladder, or mabye use EMP tech so they can't call in airstrikes and so that drones can't see you. Mabye be extra dirty and put it near the top of the ladder so nobody can sneak up behind you. **questionable tactic?***

-Once found, don't bug out totally, mabye just move spots on the towers.

-ALWAYS be in support of your squad. Make sure that you call out incoming enemies to give them a heads up. You are probably not the squad leader, so you can't spot withthe SL commands.

-I've found it best to lock my minimap so it doesn't spin. I can call out general directions "APC coming to the South Objective from the East!"

-If you are going airstrike, request info from your squad so that you can best place your bombs. If yo have an EMP tech in your squad, make sure you coordinate with him for very precise strikes.

Anyone else?
