Q. about frontlines...
Just a couple of quick questions, I played the demo on the Xbox 360...and though more action then tactical, I could see where a group like TG could really max out this type of game.
1. Squad system, So I understand that it's just like BF2, where you pick a squad and join up with that squad and work with that squad, is there a squad leader assigned, or whoever makes the squad?
2. Is there a commander who calls the shots and orders squads where to go and what to do, or is it just squad level leadership only?
3. It doesn't have VOIP, so each squad will have there own TS sub-channel, and only the SL will go into commander mode (via TS) and talk with the game commander?
4. I was hearing (reading) that the game was robot crazy, meaning everyone had robots driving around that was hard to kill and would get close to you and blow up. Is this still going on, or has it been controlled and settled down some to make it more of a shooter and not an RC bomb car game?
5. Finally, was there never a demo released for PC, just a beta correct?
thx for any info... I will probably get it, play it for a 2 or 3 months and then leave it, like i did BF2... loved the gameplay, just got old to me.
(plus I need a new game to review till Vegas 2 comes out.

Re: Q. about frontlines...
Hey Magnum,
Like BF2, the person that makes a squad is the SL. Unlike BF2, the squad does not stay together if the SL leaves or gets disconnected. If this happens, all SMs get a "Squad Disbanded" message.
There is no commander, so it will be important for individual squad leaders to talk to each other for coordination.
You are correct, it does not have VOIP yet. It has been promised in a patch. The SLs will become "channel commanders" on TS to talk to the other squad leaders for coordination.
While this was a problem for individuals lone wolfing, they are easily handled within a proper squad containing at least one EMP tech.
Correct. A polished PC demo is due March 11th.

Re: Q. about frontlines...
I would like to expand on #4 a little bit. There certainly are several pieces of high tech equipment or abilities that you can acquire in different roles on this game. On the surface, it may seem like a lot of toys, but as you play the game you realize that success is built on the kit balance of the squad and there are countermeasures to handle most anything. For instance, when the beta first started you may have found yourself under constant bombardment from air strikes. As we have learned, EMP abilities protect you from that by providing you a shield of cover. Same thing for drones, they are rendered inoperable. IMO, in this game, proper use of countermeasures brings it quickly back to effective use of infantry and how you approach, seize and control points. New people will quickly learn that recon drones are for recon but you cannot control points with them. Same with the "RC cars". A new player may be temporarily mesmorized with controlling it and they are effective against vehicles, but again, they cannot control points. In the time it takes to drive a drone car around, your team could lose 1-2 CPs to organized infantry. Airstrikes can be effective, but against EMP countermeasures, they are useless. Snipers can snipe, but they cannot control a point without support.
Even though initially the game may appear gadget crazy, you will find that organized squads with balanced measures/countermeasures are what will control the points and win the game. The devs are also tweaking the abilites as Whiskey Six posted here. Over the last 2 weeks of the beta I have noticed a big change in how the games play out when people make the change from lone wolf to organized squad member. Once we get this game rolling, we would be happy to show you around and get your thoughts on it.|TG-12th| jb4

Re: Q. about frontlines...
Ya, I already pre-ordered the game via Direct2Drive... so I can test and play it myself, at least till vegas 2 comes out at the end of march then (depending on how good Frontlines really is based on my opinion) I'll move on.

thx for the info.Magnum
