Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
I haven't played much of the multiplayer game but I just finished the single player and I agree with Rage's 12 yo son.
Some of the missions do get a bit intense with bullets and missiles flying everywhere.
The only thing I called BS on was on the last mission defending the square. I had some Redstar standing on the step side right up against the metal railings shooting me and I was about 10 ft away by the resupply box and couldn't shoot them thru the railing.
On the up side I did have a control point that I took entirely by myself with the attack helicopter drone.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
i've decided i can't get into this until they fix a few issues. having no idea which way is north, even though in the SP game they tell me targets are coming from a direction i've no clue until i take fire.
second issue i thought was getting cleared up was joystick.. nada.. and then there is the lack of voip. work around is the use of TS but that only works with our group and not on a pub server.
i've enjoyed the game thus far but unless these changes are made in short order i might just move onto something else and never look back.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
I really like the game, can't really get a handle on some (any?) of the weapons. I'm getting there slowly but having a lot of fun.
I really hate this game I spend my life at the server screen, it doesn't work well. It's a horrible unfinished interface. I would also say I can join about 1 in 5 servers. There is the server full when I know it's not (TS magic), server is unavailable and asking for a password when the server is not private. It did my head in for about forty-five minutes yesterday. I eventually got in after restarting the game about 5 time. I am doubting it is anything to do with my computer because I've used it on another and had the same problems. It may have something to do with Ireland, although Ireland supposedly has the best internet connection from Europe to North America. Sigh....
As you can see I'm split on this game.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
Stay patient with it big D, there are some bugs to work out. We all understand that the launch was not a flawless one, we just need to keep our positive TG attitude and work through the problems, I know you will be a part of that and help make this a great game here at TG.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
Back from some more gaming on frontlines. I find that spec ops gun to be a killer weapon. I've gotten more kills with that than anyother weapon. It seem to have a very tight grouping and a high clip cap. It really reminds me of the voss in 2142 although with an even tighter grouping. I think its a little too tight to be honest.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
Let me begin by saying that I like the game so far after playing it quite a bit this weekend. I had a couple of chances to play with some TGers and I have to say the quility of gameplay inproves tremendously. VOIP is a must so here's to hoping they implement it soon.
So far I like the concentrated fighting on specific points. It helps keep the action going and the game focused.
As for the maps, Solar Farm is quite fun. Helicopters although powerful in damage output are very easy to keep in check with AA tanks or Anti-Vehicle kits. Flares are very helpful but only usable once. Overall this is an air-ground Armor map for the most part.
So far my favorite has been Invasion. It has a Normandy Invasion feel to it. While a bit hard for the WC side coming in with the choppers, a couple of coordinated squads can grab a foothold since RS has to thin out quite a bit to deffend all 3 points.
GNAW is another good one since it focuses in urban combat. Multiple routes and hiding places add to the infantry play.
My only qualm with Village is mainly the snipers galore that I have seen on it. Aside from that it's a great map, most of the buildings here are destructible wich adds alot to the gameplay.
Oilfields its pretty open, not very many places to hide. Mostly an Armor map in my oponion.
One very helpful thing to be while in an armor map is an engeneer. While in a heli it self repairs after about 20 sec without taking damage. I just noticed this yesterday whily flying around Solar Farm.
The planes/helicopters have a different feel for both sides. The WC ones are a bit slower in terms of response to the mouse movement. The RS ones feel alot smoother when flying.
Overall I am happy with the game, it has alot of potential here at TG, I can't wait for the server to take off running.
Yeah the spec op gun is quite powerfull when compared to the assault rifle. It has a great rate of fire, very very very low recoil and is great at long range control bursts. I think the tradeback for it is the lack of granades in the spec op kit.
I had some problems with the demo pack. Sometimes when you drop it wont really blow up once you detonate it. I sneaked up on a tank dropped a demo pack, took off runing and slamming the detonate button and it took around 5 click for it to blow.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
I think the release runs a little better than the BETA does for me. The inverted thing is still killing me though. It sucks they have it right in the Xbox version, but not in the PC. I've only played mountain top so I can't wait to try out some other maps. Most changes from BETA to release on the PC version were in the Xbox demo. I don't have much to add that wasn't already mentioned in the Xbox Demo thread.

Ok ok... rep Zoopy!

Sorry Zoopy. I didn't read your thread far enough to see the solution.
At least there is a solution to the inverted axis problem.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
I'll have to try those, even though one says the drones are still screwy. I've never been big on being in armor so the drones and static emplacements are what I am most concerned with. Rep applied.

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
If I compare this game to BF2 or BF2142............. it loses badly.
If I judge it on it's potential, it scores big. Some great thought has gone into it to develope new types of weapons to entice us. As an example, I like the thought that went into how things explode and break apart when hit with a round.
This game needs voip, better "weapon feel" and "weapon siting", spotting the enemy capability, maps that aren't so depressing to look at, better damage control for each weapon, and a better perk system.
Just my $.02

Re: Frontlines : First Impressions
To me the game feels a bit off.
The HUD is all chunky and fat, the crosshair is chubby and when you fire the gun the trailers are all over the place (make you feel you’re not aiming at the target just in the general direction). Player names and objectives are really bulky and keep getting in your way.
So in general this game looks like something designed for a console and ported over to PC.
I did enjoy the singeplayer and multiplayer is like a beta version of 2142 with allot more of extra gismos and cool stuff but what scares me about this game is that we are probably going to see allot more of FPS games like this in the future, that is to say designed for console with PC version as an afterthought.
I like the game concept and the classes but I wish they would have finished the multiplayer before publishing the game
