    Re: Frontlines : First Impressions

Overall first impression is that the game has a lot of potential. The "frontlines" mode is very unique. The vehicles and the controls for said vehicles need a little work to make them really smooth. The imagery and textures and post-processing really make the game sparkle.

A bit of work on the squad based items and VOIP and you'll have a winner.

Main concerns is communicating between squadmates. That is, which way is N, S, E, and W? What are the spawn points named? How do I get my squad to all spawn at the same location?

I think the team at THQ and Kaos have done great work. Now, if we polish up the teamplay a bit the game will be great.

    SSA out.

This game makes me want to slap EA. Everything that has made me a huge BF fan since 1942 is present. EA dropped the ball or soldout in my opinion and I'm glad Kaos was there. I will forgive Kaos for now, for releasing a 90% finished game. There are 100s of micro games within the game to focus on. I had a great time all afternoon in a chopper. Tomorrow I'll play with the drones. Non linear sneaky bastid combat is better then twinkees in warm milk.

Weapon damage is WAY too low. The lethality of all infantry weapons should be increased.

Teamplay potential is there and this game will shine at TG.

    Re: Frontlines : First Impressions

This game definitely has a lot of potential, but they still have a lot of work to do to make it really playable. I checked out some 32man servers and 64man servers. The 32 man were nice because we actually got to fight and move the frontline up. On the 64 man server people die way too fast and the respawn counter hits 0 before anyone can make a complete capture. These were my experiences anyway.

I agree about the weapon damage. It seems the Assault and Spec-Ops guns do more damage than the Heavy Assault, but are all underpowered. There seems to be a ton of snipers out there. With 1-2 hit kills and no reloading between each shot they are the prime weapon. I LOVE the shotgun but it's damage needs to be increased and the range of it's heavy damage needs to be increased a small amount. I believe the melee attack shouldn't kill in 1 hit either. Maybe 2-3 hits and/or a knockdown.

Watch out on some servers. I can up behind some guy last night and emptied close to an entire clip from my pistol into him and he didn't die, he turned and killed me. They got some cheatin' going on

I had also read on the frontlines forums about a lot of people complaining about the Recon drones exploding. Personally I don't think they should either. They are recon drone and should only be used for that. Leave it up to the Tiger to blow things up I hope they take this away.

I do like the game and can't wait to see what it's going to become. Right now it's not a major interest but I am playing it to get the feel for it.

    Re: Frontlines : First Impressions

From a 360 player's expirence, I think Frontlines is DANG NEAR PERFECT. A SL to SL chat would make it perfect in my book.

Weapons balance wise, I think I might have been killed by the shotgun once. I'd rather noob toob a guy than shoot him with the shotty. That's almost a 1 hit kill gar-on-tee.

I hated the planes earlier, but I think that I can actually use them now. I'm gonna spend some time tonight on my own server learning how to fly those suckers. I'm not even gonna attempt air-to-air fighting yet, but Ground-to-Air I'm getting the hang of it.

    Re: Frontlines : First Impressions

I'm a little underwhelmed so far. My opinion of course will probably change for the better once there is a TG server with some tweaks. Weapons seem too weak. It took so many rounds to kill anyone. Maybe it was a cheater but some guy was running around killing everyone with a pistol and I had bombs or drones dropped or exploded on top of me the entire time.

The maps are a little disappointing but perhaps that because no one was moving with any sort of cohesion or purpose. The few maps I saw weren't very diverse in terms of cover or terrain or capture points. Not many buildings to enter or even places to move to take a strategic position.

I dunno. I'll reserve judgement until it is played TG style - that's why these are first impressions.

Hope it turns out to be worth the $$ since I never played the beta.

ya during the beta i mentioned the recon drone shouldn't explode. thats what the mid level on on the one side is for. recon for recon. hell thats what i was using it for while playing with a bunch of tGers on a server. helps a ton when i can give them targets to take out and i have situational awareness that they don't so i can tell them if a tank or trooper is holed up behind a hill, building etc.

aside from the game hanging once in SP i haven't had an issue.

actually thats not true. i want my joystick support with throttle control!

    other then that i'm good.

I like the game, as other have siad, it has the parts to be a great game at TG. A LOT of stuff needs work though. I would have been more happy with a delay of shipping rather than putting something that is 80-90% complete out on time. The VOIP really worries me, since they didn't even include a button for it in the manual. Hope it didn't get dropped at the last minute.

VOIP is in the xbox360 version, so I'm sure it'll be in PC as well...

Who reads the manual!?! "If all else fails, read the instructions." If all else >fails<

    Where to FFoW screenshots go?

Yea, I was just checking the key settings, then noticed that they completely left out the VOIP key. So I went looking throughout the manual for them to mention it.

So far so good. It all hinges on the support now that Kaos gives this. If they address the issues namely voip, this could be an epic game at TG. If it is to be played as it is today, it is just OK. We at TG will make this work regardless and make it the best we can, lets keep our fingers crossed that Kaos pulls through on their promises.

    Re: Frontlines : First Impressions

Well, after much anxiety of both a DVD retail and a Steam copy that did not work, I finally go the Steam version running smoothly after their patch and had a chance to play several rounds.

    First impressions:

This is the game I thought it would be. Cool visuals, interesting maps, excellent progression of damage to buildings and vehicles, etc.

I did not notice a lot of difference in the light weapons damage, although I use mostly assault. I still seemed rewarded for the classic BF2 crouch or prone accuracy. Seems like the tanks and such can take a little more of a beating than they used to, but I am not sure.

EMP still rules. I like using all of the toys, but something about forcing the infantry showdown at a CP just gets me going. I think it was Digital that commented about setting one up really high on Solar Farm. I tried that on the mountain tops next to the big antennae in the middle and them covered the center of the cone. I had to bail in from a damaged helo and actually landed in the center of the suspended array (little white circle) and set up an EMP stick and then parachuted to the cone below. It looked really cool, but it was too high and you could actually fly below it. I noticed on the support towers to the array there were mid points that probably would be better.

Where did my multi-channel support for sound go? Game still sounds good, but I will hope for a future update to maximize the potential of all that is there.
Like others have said, VOIP will be a plus. When you are so used to using it, you really miss it.

Over all, very pleased I bought this game. It will be great to play it TG style.
