How would you rate the game?

this is a thread for people with the game to shout out what they loved or hated so people thinking about buying it(such as myself) will have a better idea if it is worth it and hopefully this will get some replies. i saw previews for FFOW and was interested in it since then, kinda kept any eye out for it in game mags and online and was considering purchasing it. when it did come out it revieved mixed reviews, averaged in the middle with some nice features and some missing or un-likeable features. i read there was a MP demo due out on March11th so i waited with plans on trying the demo before i bought the game. the demo got yanked and now i'm sitting here wodering how the game really is from people who play it and are a part of the same tacticalgamer community that i am a part of.

so for those of you that have it, is it worth buying? better than BF2142? if you had both what would you rather play? single player any good? etc etc

please post your thoughts

I have it. It's not worth a purchase right now. Crappy browser, no VOIP. The next update is supposed to fix the browser but that looks to be 6 (maybe?) weeks away. Who knows when VOIP is coming - its gotta be 2 months or more. When I have been able to actually log in to a server to play it's pretty much a beta game released at retail price. Wait for a price drop and the patches.

If PC games were returnable this would be gone already. Hopefully Kaos pulls it together so I can play it at TG - but the game loses momentum for me (and others) every day.

Talking Re: How would you rate the game?

I really enjoy this game. I love the fact its a new style of game with a new gameplay mode. Some of the maps are really planned out well. Street for instance, has narrow side ally ways, where if your not careful you and your team can get mowed down easily. There is also a subway to go into under the street so you can get to a CP easier, ( thats if the enemy havent tried this aswell though.) Oil Field is another great map, wide open, good for people who like tanks and anything that can withstand a rocket.

The main problem i have with the game at the moment is i really cant be bothered to play on infantry based maps anymore e.g- Mountain Top, Street, Village. I say this because i cant stand to die with the bloody Grenade Launcher anymore. If you look in the top left of the screen all you can see is Player1-Grenade Launcher- Player2. It gets to a point where it makes you not want to play this game. Thats why i mainly play on big vehicle maps now. I know the new patch 1.0.3 has lessend the damage on the GL against infantry, so WOOT!! Hopefully they can get it like bf2 where you actually need skill to use it.

Apart from the GL, there are only a few more things i dont like e.g Server Browser, Weapon Balance, And the gun sounds.

But the good outweighs the bad 10 to 1. This is a really good game and its still in early development so im sure, well im hoping that the patches fix the crap they have put in. But its definetly a game to buy, even if you do wait for it to get cheaper or wait for a patch, i think you shall enjoy this game if you want a change from most FP's out there.

Hope this helps

Re: How would you rate the game?

This is my review for the xbox360 version of FFOW: Bear in mind that I'm playing halfway around the world on a 5 Mbps internet connection, but from my perspective there is way too much lag for small arms projectiles in this game. I don't know what exactly the source of the problem is, but I swear it takes a solid half a second for my bullets to travel 30 meters in this game. The delay between my weapon firing and bullets reaching their target is way too long. I have no issues with this kind of projectile lag when I play call of duty 4, so I am atleast partially blaming it on the game engine.

The gameplay of FFOW is fantastic. There are so many different roles, and so many different strategies to employ that it never gets old. It's just frustrating when I can't hit a moving target 25m away. I believe this is the biggest reason why the grenade launcher is so popular - you only have to get close.

If you took this game's format and used the cod4 engine to run it, you'd have an 11/10 game on your hands. As it is, more like 8/10, but still a whole lot of fun if you want to combine first person shooter and a little bit of strategy and communication

Re: How would you rate the game?

The fundamental gameplay of FFOW is really good .. but .. without VOIP its not going to take of at TG. For the people who are watching and waiting, I would advise wait till VOIP and what TGers say then

Re: How would you rate the game?

i've had a lackluster experience with this game. trying to fly without joystick support and the utter lack of voip are two issues i can't overlook.

anyone else thing the chopper flying is unrealistic and spongy? and what is up with bouncing off terrain? there are times i've been greatful but if i had my say i'd say i should have been ground chutney.

Re: How would you rate the game?

360 review: Voip rocks. Graphics, although not quite as sharp as the PC version are great. No kick vote means that spawn campers will never be kicked.

Everything else is shared between the platforms. To me the GL is not that bad. Mainly because we usually have a drone up and know where the guy is coming from. We defend CPs with drones and C4 and take uncommon routes to the CP (on the infantry maps anyhoo). The worst thing has to be the sentry gun. The sentry is a horrid spawn killer. Luckily it's gonna be fixed in the upcoming patch.

Re: How would you rate the game?

For the PC version at launch I'd give it a 6/10. That rating is based primarily on the game design itself and not the gameplay. There are numerous bugs that need to be fixed. A working browser, more bug fixes, VOIP and a bit more tweaking and this has the potential to be one of the best FPS'ers I've played in a long long time.

Re: How would you rate the game?

I was stoked about this game when it came out, but the GL issue as was mentioned really has gotten out of hand. I LIKE the infantry maps over the vehicle maps, but the GL is so overpowered it's a bit a silly.

Right now frontlines is on my back burner, I hop in every now and then, but until there's a TG night or until some more patches roll in, it's not my everyday mainstay.

Re: How would you rate the game?

Again another back burner user here.

Played with the TG boys quite a few times (silver, Rock, BC21D, hi guys ) and it was pretty good.

Unforunately I've lost interest in the game as no patches have been forthcoming sorting basic issues you would expect in an online team shooter like VOIP, decent game browser, Grenade Launcher whoring - all of which should have been sorted on release.

Better than BF2142? In my opinion definitely not. The replay factor for BF2142 (for me anyway) was always there - 2142 was hammered constantly for a good year without let up. So far FFOW has been about 2-3 weeks and boredom has set in. Shame really it had potential. It seems that there aren't that many servers either (at a guess about 50-60) and about a two thirds of these aren't full - this to me is always an indication of how well a game has done

Like Silver said - I would wait until VOIP/patches are implemented and then ask around again. At the moment I would say don't bother.

Skimbo

PS Anyone fancy a game of 2142?

Re: How would you rate the game?

havent tried the game yet...maybe these guys bit off a little more than they could chew. first full game (they made the desert combat mod right?) released on multi-platforms....and they probably didnt work on the pc version as much because it always be patched right? i will keep an eye on it because it sems interesting and its a bit more realistic than 2142.....which i play sometimes. just imagine how much fuel those aircraft burn without any wings...and landing in those pods at that speed should pretty much turn a person to...a blood splatter.

I find the core game play of FFOW really good, however there are some serious problems that undermine everything and they havent been patched yet. I would advise keep an eye on FFOW and when it has VOIP (eventually) then ask aain what its like

I think it had some serious potential, they just messed up and lost my 60 dollars.
