VOIP was based off the Microsoft Live package from the Xbox 360 developer's kit. They can't port that to the PC.

I can almost bet that KAOS wasn't the deciding factor about the release. They KNEW the PC version was released too early. I can almost bet THQ were the people pusing the deadline and not caring how craptastic the game shipped.

I feel bad for KAOS because the projected completion dates didn't occur.

Patching those things up after release (especially 2 months+ post-release and still no fix) is too little too late to save this game from oblivion. If it had been released 6-12 months later working smoothly it could have been a popular PC game! Game publishers. Waiting for Age of Conan now... learnt my lesson, will wait for a few weeks post-release to see the reviews.
I wanna refund. Worst game purchase ever.

Yeah, you and the rest of us

At this point, we've basically all just pre-ordered. Hopefully it will be good when it finally comes out.

Just because there is a package that contains VOIP in the engine doesn't mean it can be toggled on and off. They still have to implement it for there game which would require serious recoding on how the servers run and other various changes. Since they made this game for the Xbox first and was ported to the PC they were able to use the Xbox Live development kit to handle pretty much all of the VOIP requirements and bandwidth allocations.

Re: Stick a fork in it?

right - plus they're not using vanilla VOIP - they want inter-squad voip, SL-to-SL voip, and proximity VOIP. none of that stuff works "out of the box"

Re: Stick a fork in it?

As nice as it would be to have a full featured VOIP system... is that realistic or should we just hope to get a basic feature set?

I say "hope" because that is all I have left for this game.

Re: Stick a fork in it?

Yes, I have seen that. The question is and will reamin... how comprehensive is the patch. Aside from that, what kind of treats will they use to curry favor with a rather put off gamer base?

Re: Stick a fork in it?

until i can fly a jet and chopper with stick and talk to team mates this 11gb pig stays off my comp. it just wasted space and frustrated me. and don't get me started on the AT class shooting at choppers.. utter waste of time.

i dunno i wanted to like this game but it feels like i'm still beta testing it after i beta tested it but the difference is i've forked out coin this time around.

Have you tried our HC S&D server? It's unlike 99% of the servers out there. It plays significantly slower than vanilla. It takes some getting used to, so give yourself some time to adapt.

Re: Stick a fork in it?

Is this really just a voip issue that it's unpopular? It kind of begs the question as to why pre-voip games were popular. Is it more to do with the fact that it's on Xbox?

Re: Stick a fork in it?

VOIP I think was just kind of expected for MP, like you would expect in most current games. I think the fact that it shipped very buggy and most of the major issues are still there (1.1.0 is supposedly on the way soon and fixes a lot of stuff, although it doesn't add VOIP) hasn't helped. When one of the major problems is the server browser and you make it hard for people to get connected to a server, that pretty much kills your MP.
