Sniping properly: I'm learning, learn with me!
Last night was a great night for me sniping. I was playing Invasion with IO Dragone, G REGSMITH and Lag Sonata.
The first part of sniping is communication. I would always communicate when I saw an enemy going towards an objective while my squad was advancing. I would try to take the guy out, but since that didn't always work, having a squaddie coming in with a talk on from me usually did. The same goes for my squaddies telling me where they just got killed at, or where they saw an enemy advace to out of their reach.
The 2nd part of sniping is knowing when to take ths shot. Shooting them in the face works. In fact, it gets the job done 100% of the time. However, if that guy is smart, he's gonna countersnipe you when he spawns again. Shoot em' while they are looking around at other things. Like their belly button. Or your squaddies. I sniped from basically 2 positions on that map. The road on the right and from the tops of the buildings in the middle. Most of my shots were taken like described above. However, there were shots taken that theywere shooting back. I didn't move, and about 1 minute later I had a precision airstrike on my head. Oh, and try not to be the squad leader while sniping. It's counterproductive to the whole stealth thing when you have squaddies spawn on you lookin' like Jesus on the cross.....
The 3rd part is getting into position properly. If you are gonna snipe from the towers in Oil Field, you're not gonna take a route that shows you going up to the top are ya? Take that approach whenever moving around as a sniper. Period. You don't wanna be seen at all. Not even when you're shooting. So treat it like a really hard stealth game. Except that you're probally gonna lose the short range battle if the other guy is competent at all.
The 4th part is shooting. I have no idea how to describe this. Just um, practice.

It takes seven sniper shots to make a jeep start to smoke and flame, and thirteen to kill it. Just an odd bit of usless information.

As for shooting positions, keep in mind not to lay in an area where you can be seen. For example..do not lay across a ladder well as this exposes your body. Remember to move if you think the enemy has spotted you."Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." Gen. George Patton

Communication should a top priority for a sniper, in that a sniper can really help their team out.

So what kind of deviation and bullet drop do the sniper rifles have? I have not really tested it yet.

Thats an awesome tip, about waiting until the enemy turns around to snipe them. I never even thought of that, but I'll definitely give it a try the next time I'm sniping.

How else do you think I camped the same area for a long time that night? It works great when sniping the guys trying to repair the AA site and Radar site on the 1st line. They usually stand still to so that makes it SO MUCH EASIER!
Found a new sniping spot! (Invasion)There are 2 small oil towers on the left side of the map just behind the 1st line. Get up there and you now have coverage over the control tower and power plant "B" (2nd line on the left).

on the bigger maps I found the humvee to be your friend sniping, once you wear out an area or the battle has moved you have means to move postions quickly. I use this to great effect on oilfeild all the time. I try to hide the jeep as best as possable but most don't even pay attention if it isn't moving. another annoying thing is you have to hop in the the vehical every 2min or so to keep it from blowing up. not real sure on the time but it has a reset timer to it so that if left for extend amount of time it blows to spawn another from the postion you took it

Just went 22-1 on GNAWas a sniper with ground support. The 1 death was from a recon drone that I couldn't kill :P
This was while defending City Center mainly, as well as a few Rail Gun kills at memorial park.
I also had my most memorable shot during this match. I was at a sniping spot near the crane at City Center, and I noticed a guy who was TRYING to counter snipe me run down the right side. From my position, I had to shoot through the support structure of the crane and got a headshot. I betcha that guy was PISSED.
*note* An effective sniper can keep opposing members of the team not only dead, but focused on them instead of taking objectives or defending them. I must have had at least 5 members of the opposition scared of me or activley trying to hunt me down.
The K/D ratio is good, but the effectivness of disrupting the enemy is better.

Re: Sniping properly: I'm learning, learn with me!
Yeah, I was playing GNAW with just 5 other people this afternoon (3 on each side) and I decided to play sniper as there are tons of great hiding spots on the urban maps. I kept the other team busy trying to find me so much that the other 2 guys focused on moving the frontlines forward.
With the great balance in this game I've found that unless I'm ABSOLUTELY sure they didn't see me I'm better off moving as soon as I practically can after the kill, if only 100 feet or so away. At that point I'm out of the precision air strike radius on my old location. If they want to waste a carpet bombing on me, great for my team.
Although there isn't much bullet drop, I don't get headshots as much as I did in PoE2 for example. I think it's because of the faster pace of FFoW. Headshots are a lot harder when people are constantly moving. Usually it takes me two shots, which is why I move fairly quickly. The audio is accurate enough that someone paying attention can get a general idea of where I'm at after two shots.
I do like playing sniper though as I'm not as much of a twitch player as others, so I usually do better supporting my squad as opposed to being right in the middle of the action. Once VOIP is implemented and I can easily provide hostile locations to not only other members of my squad but those close to my location, it should be sweet.
