How to use the Grenade Launcher effectively?

Could someone please explain how to properly use the grenade launcher? When I attempt to use it, the grenade either explode behind the enemy or before it reach the target.

Well I find it useful to aim a bit above the enemy to get a direct hit, never directly at him unless it's quite close range - although you're better off sticking to melee or normal assault rifle at that range because you might end up blowing up more than just your enemy, also don't bother with reloading it on the field - switch straight back to your rifle mode and keep shooting.
