Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
I didn't see too much fantastic AI. I played through on the toughest difficulty setting, and there were a great number of times that I would kill one enemy, and then keep my gun at his former head, while all his buddies ran right through my sites.
Maybe it's cause I never gave them a chance to flank, but 'great' ai shouldn't end up with 4 or 5 bodies in the exact same spot facing the exact same way. It was tremendously fun, though.

I have reason to belive this game is WAYYY more better then DOOM3. I loved playing this game. Nothing has made me so scared.

That's not really saying much, though, is it?

Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
Both games become repetitive after a bit but dooms game play wares thin much to quickly and becomes stale. FEAR's combat and fire fights are much more immersive and entertaining than dooms with chunks out of walls and grenades that blow you foes body parts everywhere.

Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
F.E.A.R. is a great game IMO. The AI is excellent, albeit somehow retarded (who would shout out orders on a public channel?), and never ceases to surprise me. I remember the first time I saw a replica soldier bust outta a window. Man, that surprised the hell out of me.
F.E.A.R. is NOT a Doom 3 clone. The way it works is totally different. Doom 3 is just monsters jumping "outta the closet", and shadows with creepy lighting, and while it scares you the first few times, you get used to it, and blast that damn imp with a face full o' buckshot.
F.E.A.R was a more subtle kind of terror. I found that when Alma appeared outta nowhere was terrifiying, but when you travelled through the dark, dead corridors of the Armacham building, or when you explored the wastewater facility, the fact that nothing happened was more terrifiying when exploring the deserted hallways and offices. I know that sounds pretty stupid, but it was the tension that scared the **** outta me. You never know when Alma pops up... The first few levels had an example of this.
/minor spoiler
You've just left a severe gun battle with Replicas, and are exploring the facility. You must go through a vent in order to proceed. It's cramped, and you're heart is beating with tension... Then a figure, crawls toward you at a fast speed. You have nowhere to move, and no defense against it.
/end spoiler
That part had me pissing my pants. But yes, I found the plot was lacking.
Now for the combat.
The gunfights are exciting, forcing you to use cover and some sort of tactics. As I've said, the AI is brilliant, using objects as cover and using grenades. I must admit, however that is can be a little stupid. Who the **** walks during a gunfight when moving from cover? The guns are pretty good, with each having their own strengths and weaknesses, none really trumping the other. But the melee combat is ever so satisfying, like running up to a guy in slomo, and just slamming his face into your foot.
The multiplayer I found, was fun. Each player had a gun of choice, ranging from dual pistols, to the assault rifle, to the penetrator, to the not really appreciated submachine gun. The part I really liked was how innovative the mapmaking community could be.
The graphics were great, and really added to the atmosphere. Nothing ruins a horror story than bad imagery.
9.6/10

Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
lol i dont kno how some of u didnt like this game, and how ANYONE would compare this to doom 3...doom 3 has absolutely no ai i tested it. if u let an enemy pop out then run like way out of sight and hide in a dark corner they dont even search for you they just come staright to you, its tht kind of ai tht always knos where u r which i hate, fear they actually search for you and u can sneak up on the squads n stuff i loved the gam,e , scary toand yes its stupid they shout out commands but it also makes it way cooler imo i loved the game, n i am just trying to install it now but i lost cd key

Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
FEAR is a great game, I love the effects, the AI is great the only part I don't like about is the horror parts
I had a great moment 2 days ago, I throw a granat at a guy and he got blow in half but his torso was still holding his gun and shooting as it fell to the ground :P And all that in slowmo

Re: F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon
Bought it for PS3 and stopped playing it after two hours.
The shooting feels much worse than games that do it well like CoD4 (on the PS3, FPSs can easily just feel wrong after playing with an accurate mouse, and FEAR does feel all wrong), and the fact that shooting is with the R2 button is just annoying, and R1 is for slow-motion. You have someone (or something) in your sights and then you just go slow-motion. It just wasn't much of a game at all, although the graphics were nice. The first sight of the little girl was enough to make me think "woah, freaky little girl" but there wasn't much fear to be felt. I admit, thee was a few jumps in heart rate at a few of the sudden jolts, but this was more down to things jumping out unexpectedly and me turning everything slow-motion as I tried to shoot the stupid alien thing. The music and sound can also help to increase the freaky atmosphere by a notch or 2, but I think they were going for a Doom type feeling of scariness, fast-paced action with freaky things popping out, not realy but scary, but it can get the adrenaline pumping. I can see how this might be more fun on the PC, but it just got so ridiculously unplayable, and it doesn't really have anything too unique that would make me go out and buy it for PC.
