Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
I'm a fraps newb so I mistakenly recorded this one at full-size. Then I had to compress it down so the quality isnt very good.
It's basically a 10 minute clip of attacking and defending the "Imperial Valley" Control Point. Gives a good illustration of how chaotic those battles can me.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
Cool... maybe I'll give this MM a try. I've avoided all others like the plague but it is definitely time for something new because I'm getting thoroughly bored with everything else.
BTW... I get to see his colossal "house" every day going to/from work. What a spectacularly HUGE fargin' thing. Man.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
That's "one hell of a" write up Gambit, great work.
So much so that I'm going to have a deeper look.
I'm hoping I will be able to pick it up and put it down but be able to return when I like, a bit like I did in EvE.
I'm looking for somehting space oriented but different, this could be it.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
Servers are now open 24/7 until release!
Tomorrow is a big-time patch... look for a lil' "mini-review" here afterwards. I'm expecting the difficulty to be raised and the lvl 30+ content to be added, along with some fixes and balancing. Maybe even more, but we'll see.
Game on!

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
It is interesting to see the words that the game makers used.
"
"The knowledge of logos" -the Greek word logos means "word" in one form or another.
In Christianity, Jesus Christ claimed He was the physical embodiment of the Word.
eloh- it is the Greek singular form of God ; Elohim is a plural form of God which is the name for the Trinity of God- no need to go on into that.
Neph- is prefix in the Greek that means "cloud, clouds, cloudiness." It is also to be noted that this prefix shows itself in Hebrew words.
My opinion is where the people who made the game thought of names that sounded cool, but they might not have known that these words are connected to the ancient words refering to God or referenced to in the Torah and the Bible's Old Testament.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
I will be posting a POST-Release Review on Oct. 16th when the "final" release is done. Expect sweeping changes and differences from beta (obviously).
If you want to keep track, follow the thread in the RPG forums of TG.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
Well, your review convinced me. I've been looking for a Sci-Fi based, feh, GAME period that looked good.
Downloading the client now.

Release delayed
http://boards.playtr.com/showflat.ph...e=0#Post115608
This is probably a good thing. Those of us following development know that TR is VERY close to being a great game. Hopefully this extra few weeks will give them what they need to make a great debut.
I know many of us are on the fence; if they make the right moves maybe we can jump off on the right side.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
Well, played for about 10 hours yesterday (had the day off :P)
Initial impression? Exactly as you said. Meh. But it is a beta
I liked the character creation screen. Lots of options, something that's pretty lacking in WoW. I was able to create a pretty reasonable simulacrum of my own face, found that impressive.
Please correct me if this changes at the higher levels (I'm a level 10 Specialist atm) but I found it very hard to distinguish other players I don't know if its just because we are all humans, but I can't just look at someone and tell at a glance what class/specialty they are. The armor customization seems very nice (colors, variety) but at a distance, everyone still looks the same.
Combat is very tactical compared to just about any other MMO I've played. Aiming, while assisted, benefits greatly if you can actually aim. Headshots are pretty important, but not like a one-shot kill. The variety of weapons (Physical, Electrical, Viral, etc) gives a nice variety to opponents. Some things can be immune to Physical, but very weak to Electrical. Found that out the hard way :P
My only gripe with combat is that a LOT of your combat seems shooter based. I'd like to see a First Person perspective option to help with immersion.
I haven't had any experience with the group play. Solo'd a couple of the instance missions, but they are defiantly designed for a group. Ninja'd a bit, got my ass kicked soundly more often. I'd really like to experience the group dynamic before I pass on the game.

You only really get "specialized" armor at lvl 15+. As TR is designed to do, everyone is largely the same at the lower levels. Once you hit lvl 15 and start picking up Graviton, BioArmor, etc. you REALLY start seeing some cool stuff. Also, you can fully customize the coloring of your armor with spray paint, which is a neat trick if you havent tried it.
Ther is talk of being able to make your helmet invisible so you can see your face. That might help.
Generally though, as you keep playing the game you get a feel for what each player is capable of just by looking at them. The closer to 50 you get the more definitive this look is.
I agree somewhat about the 1st person perspective, but IMO this game is better served in its current perspective. There are a lot of nooks and crannies to navigate, along with cover to jump into, and a low gravity. Having 1st person would be kind of a pain. Especially since I like admiring my groovy armor. 3rd person also has the advantage of moving the camera w/o moving the toon, which is much better to take in the terrain.
Nevertheless, if they had a freelook option with TrackIR capability then I'd be all for the 1st person.

Re: "Tabula Rasa" Pre-Release Review
Well I've been trying it out, had a lot of fun, got to level 20 (ranger)... but currently am getting a little bored. Then again, the only MMO that has ever satisfied me was SWG (back when I could be a Ranger and actually hunt for hides the traders were begging for) so maybe my standards are a little high :P
