The most beautiful game you will never play.

http://stage6.divx.com/user/MetalDes...xus-2-Techdemo

The guys from Crytek could learn a thing or two from Mithis. The Blacksun Engine, here in its slightly upgraded form for the now canceled Nexus: The Jupiter Incident 2, ran on only DirectX 9 rendering software, pushing the old technology to its limits. The first game wasn't all that different in terms of the cinematic quality for its graphical superiority.

It's a little known game, often overlooked in favour of Homeworld 2 which was released at around the same time. Nexus also has a very interesting history in terms of its development, because the game started out under the name Imperium Galactica III: Genesis.

It went through about three developers before Mithis finished it.

The original Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, can be purchased for 10 dollars through Steam. I would encourage you to go do so, the game is worth the purchase, for both the single player experience and its multiplayer component.

You need DivX to run the video in the first link.

That looks nice but if you want to see some beautiful stuff coming I hope in the near future check out Project Offset. Here is a link to some trailers and videos of what they are working on it's simply amazing.

Project Offset is a new game that hasn't been released yet, and it isn't a sci-fi tactical fleet simulator.

So how your attempt to link that game in this thread contributes to Nexus, I do not know. =/

Re: The most beautiful game you will never play.

It has nothing to do with Nexus. I thought the point of you first post was to show what a beautiful looking engine Nexus has to offer. That is what I thought you were talking about so I thought I would add to the conversation regarding game engines. Thought I would add to the conversation regarding different engines that's all. Didn't mean to hijack your thread

First, you need to provide a valid link

Go ahead and click on your opening link and tell us if it works for you. Polska's works fine.

Re: The most beautiful game you will never play.

I don't really see how this engine or the graphics are that great or any technical feat. It helps tremendously that all models in the game are static. Even then, the 'large ship' in the tech demo looks more rendered than realistic. I don't see Crytek learning anything from this. Everything listed in their feature list has already been done by other engines.

I thought it looked pretty dang nice for being DX9. Plus the Orbital song during the space fight certainly helped my perception of the presentation

Re: The most beautiful game you will never play.

If you're on the TG forum, theres another beautiful game you'll probably never play. It's called 'Go Out Side'. I don't even think Microsoft can buy this one. I haven't heard much about it on forums or mags, but theres a real underground for this sim. Apparently objects are rendered in INCREDIBLE detail, depending on what your equipment can handle. Dynamic lighting, particle effects, and its a persistent environment. Even when you're not playing, stuff is going on.

There is a subscription fee, but it varies alot depending on where you live.

Bah, forget what I said. I was being a jerk. I'm sorry...

EDIT:

OHNOES DAXX, you found me out!

EDIT EDIT:

Dirty Lude: That was a game from 2005. You have to admit for the year, that was very good looking. That's my point.

Was Crysis even announced back then?

It's look very nice. Reminds me of X3 (except it's RTS).
