Likely not; at its heat, tinyurl is a redirector. He'll end up requesting the same site as before.

Hey Apophis, can you post some direction on your USB key setup?

The USB drive setup is exactly what I use now.

Truecrypt and the "Portable Apps" version of firefox.

BTW, Truecrypt is an awesome little program. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in encryption for their drives and files.

https://www.vtunnel.com works for me at work, gets past websense for me at work. Alternatively you can try using logmein.com to get onto your machine, but that may be blocked also.

I can plug into any computer, use firefox and visit anywhere, and not leave much of any trace at all on the computer I'm using.

If you have a USB key, I can send you a zip file with all the stuff you'd need to copy to it in order to do this.
Is everything freeware? Could you post a very basic tutorial and put the .zip up in the Members Downloads?

Cool. I had no idea that there were that many apps that were that small!

It's all free stuff. I certainly think we could come up with a good pre-packaged assembly of applications and configurations fairly easily.

    PortableApps.com is a great resource.

If that works, then I'd bet you could also read from the Google cache. I often read stuff there that won't let me have direct access because I lack an account. Like Experts Exchange. It shows up having an answer to some technical question, but the answers are all blurred out if I visit their site. Using the cache, I can see the answer posts clear as day.

So, Tor/Vidalia is just to anonymize the sites that you're visiting?

Yes, but both ways; the Tor connection goes through many layers to make it so that...
-- The source doesn't know how his connection made it to the destination
-- The destination doesn't know the original source
-- None of the middle servers know anything except the step before them and the step after them.
