Re: Futurama is back!

You just used "nuance" to describe Family Guy.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

I've seen jokes about Soap, Land of the Lost, Electric Company, etcetera that is some old school stuff. That is what I think makes it different from Fox's other prime time cartoons. You gotta have some age to get the full nuance of Family Guy.
Ok my two cents on Family Guy. All of Family Guy's jokes are play ons of movies and shows. All also must be told through humorous flash backs in the formula "Man this is worse than that one time..." If you realize this, watch it and see how many jokes are actually written into the story line... Very few and those that are, break the confines of the seemingly arbitrary reality they live in. Now granted I like random quite a bit, but the same old formula kinda gets old.

Futurama on the other hand, as well as the Simpsons has a whole story written out, that at a glance actually goes somewhere and manages to have all their jokes written into the script. When's the last time they had a flashback? I remember two in all the episodes I've seen. One it pertained to the story and wasn't a stupid one joke tangent, and the other time they were making fun of Family Guy.

Futurama has a lot of geeky jokes. You just need to know this stuff. You need to be able to decipher Binary into ASCII to get what Benders apartment number is. You need to actually know some intelligent subjects.

Family guy has everyone barf repeatedly and thinks that's funny. Sorry i find that a bit disturbing that our nation watches that crap and enjoys it. Granted some of those jokes relating to shows and movies are the best. I love the A-Team episode, and that is beyond my generation, but sadly most of that gets wasted on the general population...

To each their own. However, I hardly would put Family Guy as the worst television that America has to offer. Far, far from it. And as for the use of flashbacks, you just described the TV show Lost. Is that bad television too?

No no I'm not trying to say that's the worst television that America has to offer. I like Family Guy, but I also like Futurama, both for two different reasons. I'm saying certain elements like when they have all characters suddenly puke on screen relentlessly for no reason, that's a cheap laugh, and I don't like those.

Not to offend anyone but I feel Jerry Springer is officially the worst America has to offer.

I've been wondering that myself! I didn't get into it until I got the DVD set, lets face it it got the worst block of television history. They have a copy of the first season on the space station. 3 of the characters were used as extras in Halo and so much more.

Firefly is such a staple of pop culture, the fact that it isn't being resurrected is a stupid move on every major network, including cable and satellite.
