Re: Private number phone calls

Then why does a cellphone (or mobile device) disgust you?

There's always that other path...the one where you permanently put an end to the "spam" personally.

I hate them because they act like a leash to anyone that chooses to tether you. If you don't answer, people feel snubbed. What if I just didn't feel like talking? I shouldn't have to explain myself to people that call me.

Re: Private number phone calls

heh.. so im really aggressive to prank phone calls for obvious reasons.... i received one from an unblocked number... i thought.... HAH i got you you mother @#$^er... so he has a whole shpiel about being from a tattoo place near by... and asked me about getting 'viagra' tattooed to my forhead and get paid $2000.... i went all out on this person and hung up... my cousin took my phone and called the person back and went at it again.. then he got quiet, and handed the phone to me.. turns out that THIS person wasnt the private number person.. but a good friend who happened to be around when i started getting the private number calls... [(conversation after i got the phone:: hey tim? this is tom calling from ryans cell, he is back from boot camp and we thought we would mess with you before askin u if u wanted to come party tonight)] and thought it would be funny to prank phone call me... heh, i kinda felt bad.... i was disappointed because i thought i caught the perp being careless, but nope =(

edit: i had 1 private number call since i have been forwarding my phone ( using the 'if no answer' ) to my companies fax machine (that way i can see if/when he is calling with my phone on silent.. call log in case i have to get the popo involved) but i fear the day he/she gets smart and starts faxing total black paper to my forwarded phone... ink r ten spencive

I think some companies/plans don't provide this. Anyone know how to enable it for Verizon in the SF, CA area? I have no interest in receiving calls (cell or land line) from people who don't identify themselves.

And if CID is present, do any cell providers offer user controls to block specific numbers or text IDs? You'd think with all that fancy technology and graphical UI, this would be simple to do, but I've seen no evidence of it.

Check with them to see what legal rights you have in your state in regards to your problem. Customer service will rarely help you to enforce your rights. There's also Clark Howard if you are at your wits end.

Usually a phone company will have a section that handles harassment calls and the like. See if you can contact that department. It's pretty much bunk that they can't trace a call since every call is recorded and routed with the caller's and callee's number. The system just doesn't display the number on the callee's phone. When I worked at a phone company, my desk phone would display any number that called me regardless of whether you had private number activated. Private number is really just a consumer service that they sell, it doesn't make the calls anonymous to the system, just to the end user.

You can get on the national do not call list, its free just google for the number.

Also you can ask your provider to block all calls that do not show up on caller ID. If you do that and some one with the *67 calls they get an option to temporarily disable the block so they can call u and their number will show
