Re: CompUSA Closing
Too bad I guess. At one time I got everything I needed when I needed it for building/upgrading my computer at the one near me, but it hasn't been like that for a few years, so I buy whatever online.

Re: CompUSA Closing
The CompUSA in my area closed down and had its firesale quite a few months ago towards the beginning of summer. The best things to be had in the store were the shelves...literally. People were dumping the merchandise on the floor in order to free up the shelves, buy them, and cart them out the door. I managed to get a sweet high quality book case for only 20 bucks that was appraised at $1200 at the local furniture store. Also yoinked the cork board out of the employee break room for 5 bucks. Not bad for a 4x5 notice board that's valued around $200.
On a related note. If you paid $1 for the King Kong video game...you over paid.

Re: CompUSA Closing
I was never a fan of those stores. The one in my area has been gone since 14 months ago. Most of the employees new nothing of customer service. I hope some of you guys find some killer deals though!

Re: CompUSA Closing
CompUSA = my custom built computers main resource... With them going out and the warranty for selected items still being in term, what does that give me? Am I **** out of luck if something happens? Or what?

Re: CompUSA Closing
Nope as stated above, go to newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com and buy the parts for way less and better customer service on the rare occasion you need it. I buy all the computer parts that the company I work for uses and even when I have needed the part "that day" I go to CompUSA and they:
1) Don't have it 2) Have no idea what it is 3) Want even more than Best Buy for it Stores like Best Buy will remain in business for their entertainment sales, TVs, premade computers, etc. But for parts and supplies online retail offers better pricing and more knowledge via user forums. Quickly scanning through what other people think of a product that actually use it seems better than asking some geek that knows nothing about it.

Re: CompUSA Closing
The bottom line is "the bottom line". If they aren't making money then they cut costs, the most expensive cost for a business(non-interenet based) is labor. Most companies strive for labor to be under 20% of your net sales. Sales drop and your 20% becomes less and less, most managers(including regionals) are taught to keep labor in control and cut, cut, cut.
Reality is, if you properly staff(in most cases) and provide exceptional customer service then your sales will go up. Increasing sales will lead to a lower labor percentage. It is very hard to find upper managemnet to follow this path. I happen to work for one that will, with a little faith, follow this path. I have succesfully turned around two locations for this company following that exact formula. Now they have the attitude that the best way to get labor under control is to increase your sales. You do have to lose money for a little bit until you can overcome the damage done previo9usly.
