uhhh no. Actually, hardened airsofters only use electrics. Springers are good for long range snipers and gas is good as a sidearm only.

My brother has a gas Mac11, AWESOME thing to play with... but not tactically viable. He ended up buying a new electric G36.

The tech. in these new electrics makes them far more viable than any springer or gasser right now... stock as well. Dont get me started in some of the mods I've seen done to these electrics.

Re: Airsoft

I have a Crosman Pulse R74 I bought for turning away stupid dogs from my parents house - they learned quick.

The Pulse R74 has multiple modes.. single shot and full auto, and 'hopped-up' for both. Regular single shot and full auto are good for short range, 'hopped-up' does good at longer ranges. Overall.. a good multipurpose AirSoft modeled after the MP4 in the Pulse R74 case.

As for the 'Mods' Gambit mentioned.. I can't wait to get some time to mess with the battery cycle of the Pulse R74.. there is definately room to do it.

Re: Airsoft

If anyone here is thinking of getting into Airsoft, bear in mind most fields wont allow anything over 350fps. They'll sometimes make exceptions for springer sniper rifles, but that's it - and anything within say 20 yds you have to pull a sidearm or call "surrender". So dont get all moist when you see a gun that shoots 400+fps, it means nothing because you wont be able to use it in a sanctioned event except in certain circumstances.

I know a kid with a Frankensteined Tokyo Marui G36 (modded firing rate and speed 400+fps). He brings it to the field just to hurt people with it and lies about its speed. That's no good... close range shot to the eyegear with it and it goes right through, not to mention your cheek and any other exposed skin... hehe

I have some suggestions if you're interested in getting started, PM me if you'd like.

p.s.
Hey... I just passed 1000 posts!

Re: Airsoft

I thought most events have mandatory chrono tests prior to getting things started?

Exactly. But, if you're just hangin out at the paintball field with the airsofters and dont chrono everyone, there will always be one smacktard who pretends his weapon is legal.

Any organized event will indeed have a chrono though.

Re: Airsoft

I recently got into Airsoft over last summer. A friend of mine started out with a few little springers he'd shoot around the house. I thought it was entertaining for a few minutes, but quickly got bored of it. It wasn't untill he got his first AEG that I became interested. After going out with him and a few friends a few times, I decided it was time to buy.

So know I have a MP5-A5 (HG) as well as a MP5-K and a USP .40 as a sidearm. (All Tokyo Marui)

I have a 200 round mag for both the MP5 and the MP5-K, however, I haven't done any mods to them...yet. I'm waiting to see how serious we get. There isn't anything as far as organized Airsoft here in Rockford, so we'll see how things go.

Re: Airsoft

When I used to do airsoft I used a nice P90 that was pumped up to about 400+. I never used it in any sanctioned events though as you are correct in saying they don't allow over 350. P90's rock. Good in close range, and not bad for mid ranges either. Oh, for you kids who are new to it, don't use the paintball pellets. They bork up your gun REAALL nice. I made that mistake with my first gun.

Re: Airsoft

In Virginia, we typically allow up to 400 fps. But it depends on the organization putting on the match and the playing field owners regulations. Some require paintball masks, others will let you use safety or ballistic glasses and some require a balaclava with the glasses. Some of our players from South of the North Carolina border have said that 420 is the FPS limit for most of their fields. My SR puts out about 400 with a Guarder M120 FTK.

Re: Airsoft

Been playing for a little over 5 years, going on 6. Was a part of Team Ghost Cell before it disbanded and now am a part of Team Blackjack based out of Athens, GA. We just recently came back from Op: Washing of the Spears that Mindgames put on in Florida. Before that, Op: Hammerstrike in Blanding, FL. We've been to several of the Irene series across the nation, a TN game or 3, Kentucky, Ohio, and other places.

Airsoft is a lot of fun. I can't remember a hobby I've been into as much as this.

My particular squad uses M4 variants for mag compatibility, a couple of SAW's, varying load bearing gear, ICOM radios, etc. If anyone would like a TG meetup in Florida feel free to drop me a line as I'd love to meet fellow TG'ers. Florida is typically where we go most nowadays.

Anyway, airsoft has been an awesome hobby for me as I've met lifelong friends through it.

EDIT: Also for any new people, check out the new KWA M4's. They have been performing extremely well for us.
