I would reccomend seeing this...at some point. I had to go see it (only thing left) in theaters, but I tend to try see everything I want to see in theaters. I saw it as a matinee as well.

Here is a good summary of how the viral marketing campaign ties into the movie and is the background story for the movie.

Re: CLOVERFIELD, did anyone go see it..? should I?
I saw it yesterday, and I havn't been that disapointed in a hyped up movie in a long time. Maybe I shouldnt have been surprised.
It has maybe a couple minutes of truly intense scenes. But the characters are so poorly developed and acted, you don't care a whit about them the whole movie. The whole time they are runnin scared, but the dim witted camera man keeps making these dumb ass joking comments that are supposed to be comedic relief, but just come across as poorly written script. There are stupid action scenes with all sorts of tanks and soldiers gunning at the monster, with these moronic kids running around it all. In all honesty, this could be the worst monster movie ever made, and one of the worst movies made in several years, period. It's not even worth watching on DVD when it comes out. I am baffled by the good ratings it's gotten, including by Ebert, who usually has pretty good taste. It was a gametime decision to see that over Rambo when we got to the theater. What a bad call...

I thought the movie was a huge disappointment. I felt like I wasted my $7.50.
The only thing it does well is create a horrid, despicable environment in which death, destruction is evident. It keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very anti-climatic ending. SPOILER How in the hell did those guys survive the helicopter crash?? I was like OMGBBQWTF after that scene. |

Re: CLOVERFIELD, did anyone go see it..? should I?
Oh yeah, there's no room for argument about the monster coming from the water; it was farily obvious. The statue of liberty was messed up (in the harbor) after the tanker was capsized (in the harbor). So unless it traipsed across NY without being seen and destroying anything and jumped in the harbor there, it came from the water. Maybe it went through jersey, which is such a sh&thole anyway, no one noticed the destruction!
I guess it's a remake of a japanese movie that's supposed to be pretty awesome.
