Re: Thinking about joining the army
Big C what I meant is that while I'm doing electronic tech in the air force I will also be taking college courses in my spare time then after I get my degree I will go to OCS and then after hopefully there will be a fighter pilot slot that I can compete for

Re: Thinking about joining the army
Army to Air Force in one day?
I get the feeling you're not serious about this. Bubble burst: You'll probably never be a pilot. A mechanic in the Air Force, yes.

1. The air force pays for tuition after a length of service when you are eligible for your GI bill or you do ROTC or ECP. It's not immediate. 2. Where is this magic program that will let you make 40k a month? I'd love to hop on that train! Besides, if you're making 40k a month, why join the air force? You're already making half a mil a year, which is vastly better than anything you'll EVER make in the air force. 3. 10 years is the minimum you'll be looking at for #4. 4. As mentioned in #3, youre not going to be flying jets in anything that could really be considered "short term". If you enlist, well, you wont be flying jets as enlisted personnel. You have to be an officer. Which means that you have a few options: ROTC - 4 years of college, 2 years of flight school, then if you're lucky and get selected for jets, then you get to fly a jet; ECP - several years of being enlisted, followed by 4 years in college, 2 years of flight school and then flying jets if you're lucky and get selected for jets; Direct Commission - no enlistement required, 4 years of college, OCS for some weeks, 2 years of flight school and then flying jets if youre lucky enough to get selected. Bare minimum: 6 years. If you enlist, bare minimum is probably going to be closer to 10 if you have a perfect record. In addition to that, even if you do make it in 6 years, you'll have an extra term of commitment to pay back, which will probably be at least 4 years, bringing it right back up to 10 years. Dont want to rain on your parade man, but you oughtta do a little research before you dive into shallow water head first. We have plenty of Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force personnel here at TG. But dont stop there, go talk to a recruiter and learn about the reality of the situation. Plus, keep in mind that anyone in the military who is rich either married into it or was rich before they joined up. A rich person the military does not create.

Re: Thinking about joining the army
Another thing to think about is the strict standards about physical condition and eyesight that the military has for pilots. Also, if you go with the idea of a pilot, there is no guarantee that you will be a fighter pilot. You may wind up piloting a large cargo aircraft. Also, if landing on a carrier bothers you, you are probably not cut out to dog fight in a jet either. The Gs alone make a lot of pilots realize they are not cut out for fighter duty.

Re: Thinking about joining the army
Um, guys DO NOT VISIT THAT LINK! That damn site set off more alarms on my security programs than anything I have seen yet. Honestly, Twiggy how old are you? You seem to jump around quite a bit and the fact that you would might be serious about such an obvious scam website (the guy on the book has an afro for christ's sake!) has me wondering if you are even at an age to be seriously thinking about a military career. At first I assumed you were 16-19 and considering joining the military now, but now I am wondering if you are much, much younger.

Re: Thinking about joining the army

1. Scholarship straight out of high school. You apply for the ROTC scholarship and a buttload of colleges that have ROTC programs for the service of your choosing (air force in your case). Of all these schools, you choose 5 and rank them. Assuming you get accepted to the schools and the scholarship, the air force will assign you to a school and thats where you spend your college years. The scholarships are very competitive and you have to have a completed application in by the same deadline as your college applications (generally in January I believe). I got a NROTC scholarship straight from high school, as well as two other kids from my school. We all had GPA's over 3.5, SAT scores over 1300, well rounded extracirricular resumes and all had political nominations (the two other guys had senatorial nominations and I had a vice presidential nomination, perks of having two retired officers as parents). 2. College program rolled into scholarship. This way, you have to pay for at least part of your school while still actively participating with the ROTC unit at your school. If the ROTC unti deems you worthy, they can grant you a scholarship. I have seen people doing the college program thing get awarded scholarships in their first semester of school. I have also seen them get awarded scholarships in their last semester before graduation. It entirely depends on how many scholarships are available to college program cadets at that point in time and your standings with the unit.

Re: Thinking about joining the army
...ROTC is a SERIOUS commitment to the military. Military life in general can be very constricting...
Get rich quick schemes for the lose. You're better off taking the odds with job placement rates after college than a book like that. ANYONE can write a book.

Re: Thinking about joining the army
Of course they can. You just have to understand Twiggy, no get rich quick scheme works.
A good acronym to remember: TANSTAAFL. Translation: There aint no such thing as a free lunch. If things like this rich kid's scheme worked and you could make seemingly unlimited amounts of money with 0 work involved, EVERYONE would do it. Take those things with a grain of salt. As far as the military goes, if you want the best possible gauge, go see a recruiter. Explain to him what you want to do and get solid answers.
